There's a big problem with all these interviews. Everyone doesn't want to be the one weirdo who sticks out, so once one of the group rates them low or high, then the rest of the group is very likely to just follow. If you actually want to hear what people think, then start doing individual interviews. Until you start doing that then all these interviews show is how easy the group influences thinking and absolutely nothing else.

I do not disagree with your view. I think it's part of it. But I have to say that I am more astonished by what it says about women, because these responses are coming from different parts of the world. Women clearly have a difficult time with the truth. There is no way all these women actually believe that this obese woman is a 10, yet they all, without hesitation, say so. The question is why? What is at the root of their fear to just tell the truth?

Because it's socially acceptable to tell a man to improve. Today for women, it's not socially acceptable to tell women they need to improve. Thus, men just check out. I have obese women regularly telling me that I need to stay in the gym. Nah, I'll just not date if my options are obese women, get rich, "learn game." might need to watch that war games movie, the best option is to not play.

Filipino women are generally very polite and conservative. I think they were giving the heavy girl extra points for being daring enough to show lots of skin. Maybe that's something they wouldn't be confident enough to do themselves. It was amusing to see their brain freeze when the big girl picture came up. 😂

Interesting results. I think they would give different results if they were to give their scores separately. Most of the ladies didn't want to be critical of women with other women.

@@Rubeauti Hiya Rubeauti. Thanks for replying. To be honest I think it's a bit of both and it depends on her status in the friend group with her. If she gives a poor rating say 1/10 to a lady that is clearly above average say 7/10 say this is going to give her instant criticism from her friend group with her and potentially lose respect and standing. If later some other friends watch the video she will then get criticism again - maybe more people but it won't be instant 'Don't you stick up for women?' etc. This is how it works in the West anyway - women don't like to criticise other women (at least not to their face 😉)

@@Onnarashi I'm curious to see if there's a difference as you say an o ese guy wound almost certainly get 0 or 1 in the West but they give high scores to obese women. Would filipinas be the same? Also is there a cultural difference? For instance in Thailand an overweight or o ese man up to a point is more desirable because culturally a skinny guy has no money whereas a fat man is see as rich and wise... This of course is changing there but it's still a thing.

This reminds me of the Solomon Asch Experiment, where individuals change a correct answer to a wrong one in order to conform with the group.

If someone is so "nice" that they can't tell the truth about a person they will never mutually meet and pretend that obese is healthy/good looking I think that means they are too "nice" and this level of "polite" is not good for society. Hey Rubeauti. You always have fun stuff to watch and I like it very much. I have something of an odd question for you. How tall are you? Sometimes you seem to be almost a head taller compared to some of the other girls you are talking to.

I think of myself as a 5 and my wife a 10 but no way am I going to rate a obese person as a 9 or 10 even if they are confident. Come on now. Nothing against heavy people but there is no way someone who works hard, eats right and is fit would be less attractive than a heavy person who doesn't put in the same work and dedication.

My health has improved and it's important for us to simplify life and stick to protein and produce for what you consume and limit snacking. I still have a negative view on myself as far as looks but do think I have a good personality, sense of humor and am confident in how I keep my wife very happy

Could you do an experiment where you ask people individually to arrange a few photos in order of attractiveness, from lowest to highest, instead of asking for a fixed number rating? And possibly blur faces if that'll get us more honest ratings.

That one lady is so sweet. That she said it reminds her of her mother. I think most of them are not being honest. Because they are not basing their numbers when rating the guys, is more based on (1) would you sleep with him, (2) would you marry him, (3) would your family and friends be okay with you being that person (4) certain prejudices (what country are they from, are do they look like a player, creating a centric that they think they might have a bad attitude etc.....) .

I think they are answering what they think they are supposed to say, not what they really feel. While some varied from their friends, I have noticed that groups of filipinos often answer the same or close to the same, and seldom do their answer vary wildly from the others in the group. I think that is part of the cooperative culture.

Guess it's only a matter of time for western idealism to take roots in the youth. My fear is the whole world being converted. Obesity is a huge issue and the fact that we treat it so lightly and even encouraging it is the reason people are so afraid to speak the truth.

Thank you for the video interviews. You have shown us the difference between younger and older Filipino women's views of men. After watching the last few videos, just as you said.. the younger city life females are more or just as critical as "westernized American females". So basically if a foreigner comes to PH looking for a younger city-life females will be facing the same "ostrization" as they would be from a US female. There is definitely a difference of views of the type of men they like and I hate to point this out that it was "consistent" for every interview that "Black Americans" are low on their scales as a potential partner.

I'd let you use my picture. I'd be curious what my rating would be. Over here; a lot of women say I'm a 7-8. But in reality, I'm probably a 6-7. Over here; women will tend to give you a higher rating to you face, but online give you a lower rating. Over here; if you're not an 8-10 in their eye, you're automatically cancelled. As far as people in general not being comfortable to be honest in a group public poll, I feel that is not just in the west, but most places that can be reached by social and mainstream media... If you asked some of these questions in a private setting, individually, you would probably get different answers... Is it hypocrisy or fear of having a damaged public reputation? Either way, what is said and done behind closed doors is usually vastly different from what is said and done in public. It's an interesting social experiment... 🙂

Judging based on looks is fine if you never intend on meeting them. However a persons overall beauty changes based on what's in their hearts and what comes from their mouth. Someone who is a 10 can quickly become a 2 if their heart is poo. A 3 can quickly become a 9 if their words are fine. Give people the chance to show their true form before wanting them as a true love.

I think we need to focus more on the types of narcissism. In the West, it's has been heavily marketed to women "what have you done for me lately" as part of the consumer spending economy (women spend most of the household money). Rating snapshot photos is very much like rating living people. Rating is a moment in time; what you are now is not what you will be in ten years, or what you were 10 years ago. One thing is constant, change. Beauty is fleeting, but can be monetize in current society, from New York marketing to OnlyFans subscriptions. What sets Filipinas apart is perceived and actual traditional values, a conservative social structure, and Christian undercurrents, reflected in family, culture, arts, Laws, education, etc. Otherwise, you would be us.

Hi Rubi, Really cool idea to do this with Philippinas after the westerners Tik-Tok video to show a contrast. You are right, Philippinas and people in general want to be polite and kind and avoid difficult confrontation and thus they don't express negativity towards the fat girl. It would be much easier for people to criticize a hat that a girl wears, for example, because the hat can be taken off, it is less personal, it is an appearance that can easily be changed, it is not easy to change the fact that one is fat. There is another aspect though and this is why paying too much attention to what you see on social media is damning to society, to all of us getting along well. Social media serves as a shield for many who post, people will post themselves saying very ugly things about others, things that they would not tell that person...in person. I was surprised how many of the girls rated themselves pretty high when you asked them how they rate themselves, knowing how humble and shy Philippinas are. This is a good thing, to see the Philippina girls have healthy self confidence and not think of themselves as lesser people. You are all tropical paradise girls to me! 🙂

It is very interesting that even though you instructed them to rate the pictures on Looks only they continued to rate the Men based on their desire to be in a relationship with that man, but in the case of the Obese White Women they based the rating on an imaginary Confidence for you to be willing to be in a swimsuit... The only think that differs from the Western Modern World seems to be the Lack of self identifying as being Pretty or Attractive... Very Curious...

I'm sure you right about the politeness in the answers however I also notice that most people who rated the woman highly also mentioned she was a confident person. I'm assuming that's because she is wearing a bikini in the picture. In the west it is very normal for women to wear bikinis at the beach whatever their body shape and it doesn't really say anything about their confidence levels as it's just the social normal here. I wonder if you would get any different response if the models were all more conservatively dressed. Certainly the majority of the people you asked were more attractive to me than the woman in the picture.

Yeah, 10 in their own minds but men find this trait in women very self-centered. It is most unattractive thing ever to men when women think she is "perfect" because she thinks there is no more room to improve on themselves. To me, most women are average at best.

I was indeed surprised. Filipinos spend the most time online of any country and can see social media has completely warped judgement. That's a shame. Also interesting is the differences in groups vs single interviewee. Women are highly influenced by the opinion of other women. So in a group the women were all quick to judge as soon as one shouted out an answer. Single interviewees study the picture more for the most part.

The excuse of "rating him a 2 based on how i see myself with him dating wise" kind of sounds like rating him low not because he doesn't look attractive but the woman not seeing herself as good enough to be with him and so then rates him low. Not to say he isn't attractive (which was the question) but rather that she thinks she'd never be able to date him. One thing to note is they rate the guy based on "attraction" but when it comes to the woman they swap to "confidence". I have a few ideas as to why. One is about women being more sympathetic and not empathetic. And so rather than trying to understand others there is more about attempting to put on a display which is to be expected such as coming off as kind or compassionate. So don't come off as to lustful by rating the obviously attractive guys as attractive, don't call the fat woman fat so rate her a 10, and despite obviously being better looking than her rate myself as a 5 yo be humble. This makes them all look like liars, but its a play at sympathy. And I think this also goes to feed into the singles vs the groups. The singles were more willing to rate the men higher but as the groups got bigger the men tended to be rated lower. And why I think this holds true is in the groups whatever the first person answered everyone else answered within 1 point of it. A sort of outlier is the group of 3 later in the vid which rate the fat woman around a 5 but again once the first lady rates her low her two friends also rate her low. So it kind of conforms to my hypothesis. They didn't tank her score, they clustered and when they said 10 for themselves it was with a jokingly humorous manner so as to not come off as conceited. Also the few times a woman doesn't cluster with the group her answer usually has a strong emotional characteristic to it. I have tendency to believe these are truthful responses.

Discerning men rate women also! But they are few and far between. Most guys like the pretty ones who are easy to get. The GEMS are hard to get! I love a challenge!
