AS-V pro shinnies review

Спорт

After picking up the AS-V protective from CCM my first impressions are from the shin guards and deserved the first review. They are protective but have a real nitpick that knocks down their quality.

I can say most of what you’ve said is pretty much spot on. I play D and have been using these for a few months now. The top strap was a little annoying at first but really it’s nice that it’s not elastic cause I’ve had no issues with the shin pad twisting. I do use tape in the tape groove tho. I will say…. I’ve blocked dozens of shots with these and if I didn’t hear the clunk of the puck from hitting me I would never even know I blocked the shot. Really phenomenal protection there.

I think you're the first to release a review of AS-V protective from CCM, and it's definitely a review I've been anticipating. As most other players I always end up struggling with overall fittness of shin and elbow protective, and this usually leads to modifications like: - straps (reinforcements, additional velcro, reinforcements of seams) - pads (apply liquid cloth rubber to keep the protective from moving when sweating) - etc.

Trying to get them all out as fast I can but of course need games for best review possible so not to concerned if someone is before me and it’s junk haha. Yah we really shouldn’t have to do that with top end stuff but sometimes you have to if you like certain features that it has but the make or break is just the one strap etc. for these if you need protective shins ( like as a Defenceman) maybe worth it. For a forward probably better options

As you said the strapping issues are personal. My CCM shins fit me really well. I’ve never had any issues with the way it’s strapped although I do think the Bauer may be better. I like how thick the lower strap is and the adjustability of it makes it so I can really get it snug. The top strap was annoying at first but I quickly got used to it and it doesn’t move around. With tight socks I never even tape my shins. I’m an over the tongues guy for reference. Yeah they are bigger and bulkier but the protection is definitely there. I also have big calves so maybe that’s why they fit so well. I have a hard time fitting into the slimmer Bauer lines. Great vid.

Nice video as usual! I got the chance to take a look at those shin pads last weekend. Honestly, they seem like the AS1 pads, but in black and with a slightly different liner design. They didn’t work for me. Also, that knee donut cut out is actually pretty abrasive after only a little bit of skating. But as you mentioned, it’s all subjective. I’ll be sticking to my pro stock RBK pads until they wear out.

@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews As I mentioned in my other response to you, you’ll need the profile, but the Jetspeeds are a superior performing skate in my opinion. Of course they need to fit you properly, but they’re really great. You can actually feel the benefits of the one piece boot. They are incredibly stiff, however. You’re probably looking at 1.5 months of actual break in time although they’ll be comfortable much sooner. They wrap and support my particular foot better than the Hyperlite and thus provide more lateral stability. It’s good for my power skating technique. Based upon how you skate, I think you’ll like the Jetspeed or maybe Ribcor better than the AS5 pro. The flexibility of the Hyperlite closely matched the Ribcor but I think the Jetspeed is a faster boot. The Mach (if it’s like the ultrasonic) will be a power skate and not quite as good for agility. But profiling the steel could be key for all of them.

Will have to try putting on the pads and letting my wife beat me with the stick when she's feeling irritable. 😄 I like the level of protection but these look a little bulky for my taste. Also, the rigid knee strap seems like it could get annoying if not painful. Have you tried Supreme shin guards? I feel like they fit me the best largely due to the 3 hinge points instead of 1. I don't know if the extra hinge below the kneecap does anything but the hinge at the ankle is pretty great for a tongue tucker like me. I get the extra coverage of going 1 size up without the kneecap riding high during strides.

These are large and over sized so really a Defenceman non mobile player in my opinion style.

@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews most beer leaguers at any level should be rocking the lightest possible gear period - Hyperlight or Jetspeed are expensive yes but offer way more protection than needed at those levels of play. The extra overall weight savings is much more beneficial. In fact for a pro or semipro player, I would wear the heaviest protective gear in practice and the lightest in a game situation for strength and conditioning. Long ago I wore Jofa everything and one day it hit me how heavy my bag was and switched to some very light gear and boy, what a difference it made.

This is a review posting good and bad of the shins. That’s the point I’m not just gonna “tape up” I’m going to explain the pros and cons of the shins and allow the viewer to make a decision on what they prefer
