Beer League Bum hockey reviews
Beer League Bum hockey reviews
Unbiased, self financed, no punches pulled hockey gear review channel. I have loved trying the latest and greatest hockey gear since I started playing 15 years ago. I always bought the top gear, sticks, skates and protective. I now want to help others by preventing them from buying a 350$ stick they will hate. If its new and just released I will be reviewing it so you can make the best decision in your gear purchase. But also, I do this for fun. I'm just a beer leaguer that's 40 years old with Rheumatoid arthritis so don't need no bs, so keep it clean other wise you outa here.

Got this stick for 90 euros, still a top stick even a couple of years later. Will be my go-to stick next to the Jetspeed ft5 pro and ft6 pro sticks.
If you can find these they are gems!
Can you do a video on the new Bauer supreme shadow skates
I’ll definitely try!
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews alright thanks 👍
Hey, do you know what the dual anchor strap is supposed to be doing on the elbow pads? It doesnt feel any different than my old apx anchor strap, wasn't sure what the the "adptfit+" is...
All the across anchor straps usually are designed to stop movement down during shooting but I have yet to see one actually do this well. Its best to roll your under sleeves over to keep elbows in place
Great review. I picked up the ccm xf pro shin guard. I’ve used the one90 supreme the ultra sonic and the nexus 8000 shin guards in the past. I was looking for something not a low profiled as the ultra Sonic’s but not as bulky as the nexus 8000. The asv and xf shins seem to be the happy medium between the two. I also hate taping my socks
Yeah these are protective as hell and I’m guessing the xf is similar
Hockey influencer basement reviews are legit: confirmed. 😄
Excellent!
So the QR5 Pro is only 63 inches long? I normally cut my sticks to about 64.5 off of a 66 inch stick
Yes, but seems that the next gens of sticks are being released longer for all brands but I don’t think 66 is a retail thing, what stick you normally run? 66 seems tall to me unless you talking blade as well?
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews yea im referring to from floor to the top of stick.
@SteveDroux gotcha. Yes CCM’s ste longest retail I think at around that. Bauer and warrior shorter but some releases are going that long now on new gens
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews my uncut stick I've got measures 65" from the floor
What is your stick tier list as of June 2024? I really appreciate your channel btw.
We do need an update don’t we!! I’m on vacation until June 20 in Greece but channel will relaunch with next video when I’m back
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews awesome, Greece is very beautiful, enjoy your vacation!
@@cedrikmueller5653 thanks! Looking forward to getting stuff going again once back
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews That's great! Looking forward to the FT7 review, will be interesting to see how the blades gonna hold up..
@@cedrikmueller5653 yeah I’m super. Curious
Just got 2 for 360$ cad. Hopefully I like em
Pretty good price and two is good for when the blade blows up lol
What do you recommend for stick length?
It depends on shot style if you wanna message me on insta can help
I don’t have insta lol, one of the few that doesn’t. Any other way?
@@joaquinrodriguez887 fair enough. It’s a lot of info but basically comes down to flex, kick point shot style and then stick length. So if you are a new school shooting a longer stick will help. If you’re older school shorter is better. If you are a play maker shorter is better and stick handler shorter is better. Longer sticks are more that bedard mathews style game big drag and torque on the stick. Also if you like a stiffer stick longer is better to help with load and velocity on ease of load. Lots of difference ideas out there. So give you an idea I use a 62 inch stick, hybrid in 75 flex. I don’t stick handle, I’m a shooter that uses slappers more so slightly stiffer flex and longer for more bend.
How about a review and comparison of different neck guards. Not sure if you wear one or not. With them becoming mandated in the states at a lot of levels would be nice to have some feedback on the different products.
Appreciate the idea. I’ve thought about it since safety is important. I’ve been dealing with health issues hence why channel been on hiatus I’m Going to get back to regular posting and videos in mid June after a vacation
The Mach’s come higher at the ankle ? Is that what you said
Correct. If you skate in a Vapor from a mach you will notice pretty quick. Mach has more stability being slightly taller
I bought a trigger 8 pro and broke the blade. I loved it and want another. Came here for the review to see what you think. It’s the best stick I’ve used so far. I like ccm products. Rarely try other brands
The blades are weak so if you can find it a trigger 7 is a better bet. Its exact same stick just the blade isn’t soft and weak
Out of the millions of ice hockey players in north America alone, this guy and hockey tutorial are the best weve got in the entire world??? Someone grab a camera and give some fresh reviews. Cant be worse than this
You’re welcome To try bud
When is ft7 pro review coming out?
It’s tight I’m testing but I’m away in Greece for June 1-19 so unsure I can release before I go. Gonna try
What did you think of these? I’m considering switching from the Mach Supremes to these
I have a full review on my channel
I don’t know what’s worse, your cringe-worthy acting or your grammar/spelling. I find myself turning your videos off more often than not before I even get to the end because of these stupid acting bits. Just do the review and be done with it.
Don’t watch? You new to the internet? I dunno what’s worse the fact you can’t stand my videos and still watch them or the fact you post about it. Classic moron. If you want shitty reviews that tell you everything is amazing stick with every other hockey channel. Good luck.
What curve did you have for this ASV pro, and do you have the same curve on all of your sticks? Thanks
Always p28
I went on the ice yesterday (5/16) Quad II Profile 3/8 sharpen. Off ice balance was much better. On the ice made it up to the blue line, which has been my norm. Kept repeating my norm. Finally, went blue line back and rest. Entrance to redline back and break. Entrance to far blue line and back. Then , entrance to end of ice and back. I have not been able to get to the redline for ever . Let alone the far blue blue and end goal line. It worked. My injuries to my right leg, etc have been devastating, but not anymore. Leaving soon for Memorial Day back home. Then back on the ice!
Great to hear nice work!
I've heard from some other people that they think that it almost feels like shooting with an ultrasonic or high kick stick. would you agree?
Does feel like that which is probably why feels so laggy and not like the lx OG
LOL. too funny. when you are as old as me you remember those old CCM octoguns and the reebok stick with the holes. ha. honestly i dont get the whining about sticks coming out every year. yeah, i get that the LX2 pro isnt as good as the LX pro, but even if the stick is just a cosmetic change, who really cares. some people have to have the newest stick some dont so who cares if someone buys a stick every 6 months and its just a different color. everything has its plus and minus. there is no perfect stick and we just have to navigate and mitigate. or you could just go full bender and rock the 5030.
Hey the 5030 is what I started playing hockey with it’s crazy! If Sherwood made a comp stick that they called the 5030 C with a coffee curve at 390 grams in just no kick point to mimic a wood stick do you know how good that stick would sell?!
Would you recommand going for warrior
Yep lxpros if you can find them
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews lx pros are better than lx2 pros in your opinion ?
@@gabrielfortin2439 yep way better
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews ok thanks i will try to find them
@@gabrielfortin2439 no prob!
I bought a 5x3 because it weights like 420 grams and is like very hard to break
I had the 7x3 and still broke hopefully it lasts you
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews my true catalyst 5x3 is in very good shape got it like at end of season so baseball season is coming up so will use it again when hockey begins overall it's a good stick and very hard to break
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews recommend to buy it if you want and if you do buy it you should do a review on it. It's pretty good for stick handling and toe drags
@@sethcompton741 I’m surprised as most trues are the same. Maybe at the 5x3 it finally has a strong enough material to withstand stand the game
@@sethcompton741 I did the 9x3 and the 7x3 so already did 2 reviews on them just a bit much for one line thanks for the suggestion though
FT7 Pro review coming? Blade issues as expected?
Just picked up I posted on insta. Probably take 2 weeks to test it
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews I'm now a follower on insta
Do a ft7 pro review
Check insta
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews just did hope you do well with it! I love the stick myself and have gotten 2 goals with it in my first game with it, amazing stick!!!
@@Memes-ti5vf nice! I hope the blade doesn’t cause issues in a bit worried
If you call that getting drilled then that’s pretty laughable. He put his shoulder into your chest and you flopped holding your head. That was a little bump, could only imagine what you would do from taking a real hit. You wanna be the 100 goal guy then be prepared to piss people off, especially when you’re playing below your skill level.
Just heads up I have a chronic illness that affects my neck, and regardless if it’s a “sissy hit” it’s still after the play, illegal, and uncalled for. No hit is “laughable” in beer league. There is no hitting
Late to the party - the Sherwood Coffey curve was probably the best stick ever made. Change my mind.
Was a staple for all for years!
Did you get around to building custom ProStockSticks? What spec did you go for if you did?
I hadn’t no just so many sticks at the time probably next season
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews I was going to ask if you did order. Did you go with any of the “special builds” like Dans Build, G63 or the G63 XL. As they are more made for slapshots
@@barrymcaully there was some Special builds in here but no dans build I think that was available yet. The mid kickers in 375 gram are excellent slap shot sticks
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews that is what I currently have, redline 375g, 80 flex, PRO1910 (Penarin) I’m going to put an order in and thinking to go for the “Dans Build” (G63 Build with a Redline Blade). I’ll keep you posted with how they perform once they arrive. Keep up the great content 👌
@@barrymcaully that be awesome love to hear the results
I played a sherwood coffey pattern for years, before the composite sticks became dominant.
Good old coffee pattern classic
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews I loved when they started getting whippy. They would break soon after, but that window of whippiness put that little bit extra on my shot. I buy stiffer sticks now because they are $140 compared to $25 back in the day. Breaking a stick now is kinda heartbreaking.
@@brianstansfield4367 it’s true I test a lot of sticks and when they break it’s rough
I have a ft ghost and I've had it for 5 months and it feels brand new. What are you yapping about
I test sticks to the max and use more than one in 5 months. What I’m yapping about is poor manufacturing quality and bad designs.
Wow! Just what I needed to see. I had an injury which kept me off the ice. When I got on things changed. I had developed DVT's after the injury and had an incident on the ice. It took me a while to figure things out. I changed my grind to 3/8. Then I had my skates reprofiled to Quad II about 1/2 forward lean and this profile is for balance and stability. The 3/8 grind will more than likely have to be sharpened after each sessions. 10 bucks well spent. You two have given me more confidence that the change in profile will be a benefit as well.
Good to hear always like seeing these comments
Could you please do a review on blades - FLY Ti Black Steel vs FLY Vs Blade tech Black Stell. Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll add to my ideas catalogue
Actually, I have to say that Custom Hockey Sticks has the most customization of all brands big or small, but Pro Stock has by so far the most curve options !!
If you’re talking the company called custom hockey sticks, their sticks are very low end so not worth it over pro
Slapshots are becoming a thing of the past! Just like stand up goaltending!
In the nhl yes, not in any beer league
Also in love with the fact that you used the word geometry, because that's what this is, instead of like every on-air personality using the word "calculus", when they have like, a single unknown factor. Cause that's simple algebra. Thanks guys, this is absolutely brilliant!
Appreciate it
Love, love, love, love this....but the on-ice audio makes it sooooooo hard to understand. Uhhhh, can you re-do this with better audio? Lol? Please?
Yeah my mic messed up and you don’t realize until editing unfortunately
hi, what kind of pads do you have in the cf100, the orange ones?
Yes orange ones. I have. Review on the cf100 on my channel
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews are these original pads?
@@michalkohler7586 yes
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews did you take off the cloth? I have 3mm front and 3mm rear. don't make them so thick

I always laugh and pat my “Molson muscle” when the young fella trying to sell my old ass skates mentions how light the most expensive skates are… 😂
Yep they aren’t much lighter especially running gigantic steel
Year later now… any issue with the Amp Flex? Just curious 😊
Sold to a friend on my team to monitor long term and one ripped out at about 11 months. Bauer warrantied
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews thanks. My son needs new skates, he’s a Junior A player. Has worn 3SPro last 2 seasons and the 2SPro the two seasons previous to that. He’s a lighter player but elite skater… I’m thinking the M5Pro is the way to go.
@juiceybrucey3475 m5 is a solid all round skate and seems pretty durable. Another team mate went that route instead of Machs and no issues
i like using a buttendz goalie stick grip on my sherwood rekker legend pro, the wider end fits my style of play better
Oh interesting I will have to check out that style
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews i originally would tape an extra wide end on my sticks but then found the buttendz and that was less hassle than tape, and there large goalie grip fits me perfectly edit: i use the sentry grip, its a bit odd using a goalie style grip on a regular stick, but i was always a weird guy with how i play
@@kevinmorrice weirdness is where it’s at lol
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews main reason i do it is because i like having a loose grip near the end when stick handling and the sentry grip gives me the stopage i need to avoid the stick sliding out my hand, it may be weird, but got to remember there was a time when goalies wearing masks was considered weird, sometimes the strange things catch on, like curved sticks being the result of a broken blade edit: ive also been called weird because i like using rezztek instead of tape, but like with the grip, i like not having to always redo it
@@kevinmorrice crazy you see rezztek as a goalie but that’s neat!
love the rekker legends, my go to is the legend 2, although if i had the cash id get a pro edit: another* pro, i have back ups of each of my sticks except the pro
Yeah solid offerings from Sherwood lately
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews i can totally see why connor bedard uses the pro, and honestly, sherwood has been my go to for hockey gear the last few years, the lower price points without compromising on quality is great for someone like me whose broke
@@kevinmorrice they will be top sticks this year I think with the tMP replacement coming
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews honestly glad to see sherwood stepping up there game the last few years, i started out playing in my back garden years back with there 5030, loved the brand ever since
@kevinmorrice the trusty old 5030! I started with that stick to when I started playing
Get well buddy. Keep at it 👍🏼
Thank you much appreciated and love the support I’ve received
Best luck with your health man ❤
Thank you appreciated
Late to the party here. What flex did you go with? I like 75 but dropped down on the legend pro. I believe ccm plays like 75 flex across all their lines.
I had 75 here. And thought it was a good flex I cut off 1.5 inches. The legend I didn’t cut ran 75 and felt it was pretty stiff
these vids are great and i always put a ton of stock in what is said in them. but i bought a trigger 8 mainly because i couldn't find any FT6s locally. i've had Ft3 Ft6 as well as FT6. That being said the Trigger8 is AWESOME. i cant believe how much i love this stick. I usually cut about 1.5 inches off and full taped blade and handle with no butt end. with all that tape the stick weighs 380g. so i would say that weight isnt an issue. the balance on the stick is just amazing. the new blade is great. i never have to worried about the puck rolling off and shooting blanks. my shot may be 2 to 3 mph lower, but it comes off quick. i would definitely buy this again, just maybe in an 80 or 75 flex instead of my usual 85. its probably a low kick thing, but it is more stiff than jetspeed.
Keep me posted on how long your blade lasts. Seems to be an issue now as more people are saying they breaking very fast
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews for sure. hopefully not. but i am 95% wrist shot 5% snap shot. 0% slappers so my sticks tend to last very long. that being said i can see my snap shot percentage increase because it is so good with the stick and a heck of a lot more accurate which will lend to my confidence using it to be there. with most sticks i was like a shot gun as opposed to a dialed in rifle.
@@jakebenigni hopefully that style bodes well for durability for you
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews thanks for your vids. they are very useful to me. i am very picky and super critical. i literally have $1200 in sticks in my garage that i dont use. lol.
Great review! I play forward but block shots and they are hurting me, I´m looking forward to upgrade my shin guards and I´m between these and the Bauer Machs looking for maximum protection but I dont want to compromise mobility. Can you please give me your thoughts, thanks!
Mach is probably a better way to go with mobility. Or jetspeed ft6 has only a slight down grade in protection and far more stream lined
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews thank you so much man I really appreciate it!
@@anthoniosmith no prob
I was looking on pure hockey and comparing the asv vs asv pro shins and they are literally the exact same. It is literally word for word except without the “pro” so for 50 dollars less I am inclined to go asv but do you think it is worth it to go the pro just for the peace of mind? I am a high level midget player and want the most protection but I don’t want to break the bank on shin pads either.
The tacks line is built for protection so yes you’re correct the difference between the two is minimal. I would just stick with Asv and save the $
So what I took from that is the asv is still going to be very protective because it is a tacks line but do you think the pro version is more protective? Both versions are on sale at the moment
@@ShowzyGear both are very similar and if it’s a sale would just go pro.
God damn tell us how u really feel
That I did
I love the videos. I was wondering what you think about buying 2x pro skates in 2024. There only $200 bucks at the pro shop, and that’s a hard bargain in todays equipment market. What do you think?
If you can find a 2xpro skate still in your size I would do that all day. Those skates are excellent
What about grip spray for the shaft? Just bought the original Warrior Alpha LX Pro as you have suggested over the years but the grip is terrible compared to my Warrior Covert QRE 40....($100 stick from two years ago). I didn't realize what was going wrong during my first game using it but then I realized it was just not as grippy while I was taking practice shots at home. Meow.
Yep the grip is awful on the OG Lxpro. Baseball handle grip is best fix.
When will the trigger 9 get released?
It’s later in year probably Oct
