I was just going to say that you should have used Aggregate (decomposed granite) fill. The decomposed granite with a sand mix is by far the best base for artificial turf as well as pavers. Evenly spread out the granite and tamp it down really good. Then spread a light level of sand on top and tamp again. You want the top level of the base to be as smooth as possible making sure that there are no rocks or debris on the tamped surface. If using landscape rock it will have little voids and gaps in-between the individual rock even after tamping.

I live in a town home and have a concrete alleyway I would like to cover with artificial turf. QUESTION: Can I apply this directly over top of the concrete or do I need to break up the concrete, remove and lay down a aggregate base surface? My concern / next question is regarding mold and build up. If I do lay it over top of the concrete, will I have an issue with mold developing underneath the grass or pooling water? Right now, the water does NOT pool in the alleyway on the concrete but I want to make sure adding a turf layer does not create an unseen mold issue.

Great educational videos. Any tips for drainage? For artificial grass specifically, would the drain opening be flush to the grass (exposed) or below it in the base rock ( concealed)? Is it a problem to have stragnant water in the base rocks for days. My soil isnt very permeable. Thanks much

I’d excavate it out and bring in class 5 for a base. Drain tile if the sub base is really unstable

Nice for your first time. I would use "dense grade" under the turf. It's a fine gravel that can be compacted. One benefit of doing a square yard like that is not having to do a seem!. I understand the idea of making it more square around the house but there's many tricks so that you don't need to cut the lawn. Ig @jpavaorealestate
