ARTHRITIS: Is Your Diet Causing It? [Or Making It Worse?]

** Subscribe to this channel to enjoy Weekly Videos **
If you use your joints too much, you'll wear them out, right? This is a very common belief, even amongst doctors, and others who should know better. There is no evidence showing that using your joints causes them to wear out quicker.
Your joints, if fed the proper diet, can renew, rebuild, and rejuvenate the tissues that lead to optimal function for your age. To say otherwise, especially if you're an orthopedic surgeon, is to be disingenuous. Joints don't have to wear out, or be chronically inflamed if you treat them right.
Which diet, and which nutrients, decrease the inflammation in your joints and lead to healthier, happier joints? Check out this video and feel free to share it with someone who's achy joints prevent them from living their life.

My doctor told me in my 40's that if I continued with my line of work I'd be in a wheelchair before I reached retirement, 2 blown knees, a ruptured disc and osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. I was on Prednisone and Methotrexate in recent years. I began Keto, then switched to carnivore and have now been off all meds for over a year, no symptoms or flares! I'm 66 now and have taken up hiking our local mountains and loving it.

An Xray a few years back on my doc's wall he told me my joint has less cartilege and looked worn out. However, I compared the Xray on the wall with a healthy joint xray and frankly mine looked very close. However, the doctor laughed and told me the joint was getting worn out and all he could do for me was some injection. I took it easy on my knees for awhile and they got better. Then I found Keto and now my knees feel like I could run a marathon, in fact walking 18 holes of golf, is something I do often and without any pain. I am sure I could do another 9. I am also using extra ketone tabs and have C8 MCT oil powder in my coffee. It is not unlikely.

I am 70 years old and I suffered from chronic back pain at the lumbar level. Recently, an MRI showed several very severe narrowings of the spinal canal at the level of the lumbar vertebrae. The doctors even wondered how I was still standing... and told me that the only solution would be surgery to free the passage. My daughter Charlotte overcame multiple sclerosis just by changing her diet. She hasn't had any treatment for 4 years! And no more new plates! She first yelled at me, then she advised me to switch to a purely carnivorous diet. In a few days the pain disappeared!! And my general condition is improving every day! She was the one who advised me to follow your channel. I would like to encourage all viewers who suffer from osteoarthritis to try the "Low Carb" or "Carnivore" experience, because it is the way to go to repair your body, your joints and get rid of your osteoarthritis.

Sugar causes arthritis. I've been on Keto for three weeks and my arthritis pain is gone. It stopped in the first week. Even my bunions have improved, my big toes are more flexible. I can sleep on either side not, my hips don't hurt anymore. My problem with my bladder control is over. I don't know if it was the wheat or the sugar, as all wheat products are made with sugar, but I cut all of it out and the difference was immediate. I still eat the nightshades, beans, and legumes, but they are added to other ingredients, such as in soups or salads. They are never the main part of a meal. I have also noticed the outer half of my eyebrows growing back in and regaining color, much less hair loss when I brush or wash my hair. My upper eyelids are slightly less droopy. And the dark shadows I had under my eyes all my life is much less prominent.

UPDATE: 16 months on a "hyper carnivore diet" (70% or more animal foods), and I can again not only walk & dress myself, but when I am strict with it - nothing BUT animal foods - I am 95-100% pain free!! The only arthritis pain left is some sensitivity in my left ankle bone if I step too awkwardly! And I have, at times, tested to see what I can reintroduce, and so far it's only broccoli, asparagus, olive oil, coconut & oil, avocado & oil, and tiny quantities of dark chocolate (a high oxalate food). But all the high oxalate foods, in even moderate quantities, bring the arthritis pain back! And for a while, my leaky gut seemed healed, but then I indulged with wheat at the holidays and seem to have messed it up again. And I've finally decided it's definitely not worth it! ORIGINAL COMMENT below That's wonderful! Sooo happy for you! However, I haven't had sugar in months, but can still barely walk. Turns out there are a couple dozen or more foods causing my arthritic inflammation, starting with all seed oils, dairy, all grains except millet, almonds & pistachios; sunflower, pumpkin & chia seeds; all veggies w lectins; all raw cruciferous veggies; and my most recent discoveries: capers and avocado (😩 I had avocado every day) ! I can't even have avocado oil! So it's wonderful if it turns out to be only sugar that is causing your arthritis, but I suspect it isn't that simple for most people.

@@chrissyellem7397 Sorry to hear that, Chrissy! If I were you, I would transition to a carnivore diet (I almost did, actually) n to only eat two meals per day at most, to eliminate any potential candidates for causing inflammation. And also pay attention to any animal proteins that seem suspect, as their feed can be affecting you as well. (Esp poultry.) Most of the carnivore vloggers on YT started this way: bcz they couldn't get rid of their inflammation otherwise. And THEN, assuming your pain starts to subside, as soon as it is completely gone, you can start adding foods back, one at a time, to discover all your specific causes. For myself, I had reached about 80-90% better, and then had this huge flareup when I had some tahini, which I thought was safe. And after that, I realized I had been using Trader Joe's "Everything But the Bagel" seasoning on virtually everything! (It's made mostly of sesame seeds.) And when I stopped using it, the rest of my pain went away! (This was also a reminder to me that most often, the offending foods WILL be the things we eat most often, probably bcz if it's leaky gut that started the process, it's our fave foods that will most often be what's leaking (to oversimplify, ofc, lol.) That's my theory anyway. So now I am getting ready to slowly add some things back, to test again (incl avocado) bcz I was using that seasoning when testing them initially, so it might have been THAT n not the food tested! (Hoping so anyway, lol.) My point, anyway, is just how hard it can be to find all the things that cause our pain, and why sometimes it's just easier to start by eliminating everything except the animal proteins, which for some reason don't appear to be involved for most of us. Wishing you ease and great success at restoring yourself to a pain-free existence. I know we all deserve it!

I am 73 years old and have suffered my whole life with rheumatoid arthritis. Last year I went on line to see what to do to try and stop the pain. I was on medication and wanted to get off. March 2019 I started eating low carb. It was hard following the keto diet but I did the best I could. Within 2 months I stopped taking the strongest pill for arthritis and was feeling good. I also stayed away from night veggies and beans and grains. My doctor said it wasn’t true about staying away from foods. I was feeling good and continued eating this way. It is now May 2020 and I am off all medications. I also had trouble with my knee and needed a knee replacement. I have lost over 50lbs. And still losing. My knee gives me no trouble at all. I am so happy I found this. I am very happy with the food and am not deprived of desserts, goodies and all that I like. This is easy to do for the rest of my life. The recipes are easy and quick. Wish I could get off of other pills that I take. But at my age I am happy at least I stopped 4 pills. Might be hard to stop any other pills because of my age. But I am very happy

Good information Dr. Berry, and absolutely true! I will add a couple of scenarios of my personal experience with your presentation here. I had two split molar teeth, both in the bottom quadrants, left and right sides. One of them had been split for around 10 years, the other for about 4 months, before I started Keto. After about 9 months of strict Keto, I realized one day, my teeth had mended themselves! WOW! Today, I can chew my food up, without any pain, my gums are much healthier and my blood sugar levels are consistently in the 85-95 range. I will also give another testimonial here... My wife and I are older, 65 and 70, she robbed the cradle! Lol. Anyway, last year in June, she had finally gotten to the point of having major dementia issues. Confusion, repeating things multiple times in a few minutes, etc... typical symptoms. I took her off all carbs and sugars, increased her dietary fats, put her on 3,000 mg of high quality omega 3 daily, and had her drink bullet coffee each morning. Within 10 days, you could not tell she had ever had any dementia symptoms! NONE! This led me to addressing my Sons severe ADD. He was 22 and just starting his second year of college. He has always struggled with school. I took him off carbs, same regimen with him. Within 2-3 weeks, he started coming home and saying, "...made an 87, 93, 97, 100... on my test today, Dad". That has never been a part of his vocabulary with his parents. In addition, He started saying,... "Dad, I can't go do that, I have a deadline in one of my classes as of Thursday at midnight. I have a lot of work to do." We had a conversation about 6 weeks in, from changing his diet in which I asked, "What is the difference Son, when you take the Omega 3 and when you don't?" His reply was as follows, "Before, I would have to read things 4-5 times to retain enough to make a passing grade. Also, when I took an exam, I was sure I knew the information, but my thoughts would not complete themselves. When I take the Omega 3, I read the material one time, the information is there immediately!" The parents of kids who have not struggled with ADD or ADHD, do not understand how revolutionary the above statements are! Now, to surmise, I have studied a lot over the years! In fact, I have made a way of life. Because of that fact, I have garnered a fair understanding of diet, body chemistry, etc... In addition, the medical community is now starting to call "Dementia" stage 3 Diabetes. That leads me to these conclusions: (1) The high carb, high sugar, and low fat diet, as promoted by most doctors and the FDA, causes repeated insulin spikes in our bodies daily. Those spikes, over many years, cause damage to all of our body, including our brain. We literally damage our brain, with it becoming insulin resistant, and we starve the brain with the low fat diets we eat. Just look at all the low fat, zero fat products at the food store. (2) My family's collective experience supports the fact that, you can correct those issues, at least in part, by correcting and stopping the daily, multiple insulin spikes, with proper diet and supplementation.

I started keto may 2019 because I am 74 now, but, I have had rheumatoid arthritis my whole life and have always suffered from it. As I got older it got worse. I started keto and had trouble in the beginning but after a few weeks I started to feel better. I was on several medications. After 2 months I got off the worst of my pills and was so happy. Had one more pill to go. When I went to my rheumatoid doctor about 5 months later I told her what I was doing and she said “ no, no,no that is not true”. I didn’t say anything, but, I continued on with keto and went off all my medications within 7 months. Here I am a year and a half later over 60 lbs. lighter and feeling great. This will be my way of life. I’m happy and feel good. I don’t need the rheumatoid doctor anymore and the best I ever did. Do not miss pasta, pizza or goodies because I have learned how to make the keto version and like it very much. I tell everyone that I know who suffer from it, but, I can’t make them try it. Everyone has to do things their way. I have no problem when I go out or to someone’s house. I just bring my own dessert

Took me 30 years to get rid of my arthritis and always looking for new information to keep it gone at 71. A 10 year study in the 70's resulted in calling arthritis The Cooked Food Disease and that started me on the road to recovery. I added the Knox and total success. After 7 weeks I feel so much better physically, mentally, emotionally, and I also feel completely in control of my health care. That is so powerful. I am 70 this year. Started keto late January. Down 12 kilo and all the inflammation is nearly gone, joints feel better, body adjusting. Just eat real food. Meat fish chicken. Have meat with a salad or cooked veges. Simple. Eat within 8 hours each day. Two or three meals. No snacking. Every time you eat it spikes insulin. insulin will keep storing fat in all parts of your body. Read labels.

I know some people rave about the carnivore diet but...long-term consumption of a strictly animal-based diet would be associated with significant nutritional deficiencies, not to mention depending on how you purchase your meat...over the counter meat is packed with steroids. So I don't believe that the carnivore diet is the way to go. My grandmother lived to be 95 and she got around GREAT up until she passed. Oatmeal and beans were apart of her diet, she didn't consume alot of sugar. Listen to your body...find out what works for you.

Fissures, rashes, eczemas, skin tags are completely gone. Even some dark spots ( I had thought about getting checked ) on my shoulder are very reduced or gone. I used to always have a sour bitter taste in my mouth. Now my mouth always feel fresh and clean. And yes, I used to have joint pains and aches here and there all the time. This is also all gone. I even got so busy one day I forgot to eat and didn't even feel hungry. I believe eating one meal a day will automatically help reduce caloric intake. Another side benefit is you'll have more time to do other things than preparing meals. The biggest benefit is minimizing insulin spiking. If you want to know more in this subject I would also suggest Dr Berg.

@@Chris-kr7gg I have been carnivore now for over three years. Meqt, fish eggs butter and cheese. Main element is beef. Not as much OMAD, since my carb intake has been very very low. The last month I have introduced a piece of fruit each day. Some negative symptoms with digestion (who woulda thought that fruit is VERY much harder on my digestion than any meat?!) but my running seems a bit better. I am in full training and looking forward to track competition and hard climbing at 65. Yourself?
