In this video, Doctor Andrea Furlan explains that there is a relationship between food that we eat and pain. Chronic inflammation may lead to chronic pain, and there are nutrients in our Western diet that predispose to more inflammation. People with autoimmune diseases are prone to more inflammation because their immune system is attacking their own cells using inflammation. We don’t know if fibromyalgia is an autoimmune disease or not, but people with fibromyalgia have more inflammatory markers than people without fibromyalgia.
Changing their diet has a great impact on chronic inflammation. Doctor Furlan explains strategies to change eating habits and how to incorporate an anti-inflammatory diet:
00:00 Introduction

👆ABOUT CANOLA OIL --> I always do thorough research before publishing my videos. I am very serious about what I recommend in my channel. I only look at reputable sources of information. Here are the findings from my research about Canola Oil. Harvard University www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/2015/04/13/ask-the-expert-concerns-about-canola-oil/ Oklahoma State University: canola.okstate.edu/canola-info/canolaoilmeal/canolaoilmythsdebunked.pdf Mayo Clinic: www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/canola-oil/faq-20058235 And by the way, at my home, I use canola oil and extra virgin olive oil. That is why I recommended those two in my video.

after reading the Harvard article, I think I reached a different conclusion and will have to respectfully disagree here. I don't want any oil in my body that has been "refined, bleached and deodorized" or that contains hexane (even at small doses) these seed oils are completely foreign to our body and are arguably a major cause of many of our modern day diseases. Polyunsaturated fats are highly unstable when heated and cause havoc throughout our body. I have psoriatic arthritis and since cutting seed oils from my diet along with other changes (fasting) I am now pain free and off of my methotrexate, I still have small skin lesions but they are manageable. I will leave this article for your perusal. I hope you consider a new conclusion. Thanks. chriskresser.com/how-industrial-seed-oils-are-making-us-sick/

This is exactly what brought me here, the lupus has started causing severe inflammation as well as affecting my kidneys 😫, i want to change my diet and lifestyle before this gets any worse, as of now my GFR is 88% but i have a high amount of protein in my urine, so i am looking for a diet to #1 possibly by intermittent fasting i may be able to correct this autoimmune disease and save my kidneys, and #2 eat a healthy dose of plant based, whole foods so that i can live a longer healthier life, i don't want to die early, i think of my only child and how much pain that would cause him. So I'm trying to do whatever it takes to live a healthier life and eat to live, not live to eat, i want my food to be my medicine

All cooked foods are inflammatory. The cooking process makes them acidic. To cure acidosis which is what diseases are, you must eat raw, specifically 100% raw fruit diet. I am arthritis and psoriasis free after switching to a 100% raw fruit diet 3 years ago. So called diseases by the dumb western medicine system deems incurable. Look up Dr Morse the greatest healer of our time.

For #5 everything is correct except for the canola oil. It is HIGHLY processed. If you are going to use canola oil, make sure it is expeller pressed, it's much less inflammatory. Also I would stay away from drinking fresh squeezed orange juice. You're losing all the fiber by not eating it, and you are just left with sugar water. I would recommend blending the whole orange into a smoothie with low glycemic berries. I cut out packaged snacks and cut back on 90% of my dairy consumption. The effect was almost immediate, that is to say within a few days there was noticeable improvement. After two weeks my joints felt 20 years younger (I'm 59). Swollen knees, ankles and toes completely gone. I am fit but it was hard to stay fit when it hurts to walk. I still put cheese on a cheese burger, I still put cream in my coffee with some stevia but no more ice cream (I was a self proclaimed ice cream addict), no more milk in my smoothies. This made a huge difference. FYI, I use cashew milk and green tea in my smoothies now.

Ice cream is my bad too. I found several substitutes but they are either made from coconut milk (high cholesterol) and contain sugar(inflammatory). I drove myself crazy trying different substitute ice creams. My hubby said it’s ok to have ice cream at the farm stand every once in a while which I do. Ironically, it doesn’t bother me and it’s probably the stress from worrying about the after effect of it’s effects did more harm than the ice cream itself. As my husband says everything in moderation. I think he’s onto something.

I struggle greatly with my diet due to terrible fatigue, but I know how important it is. It's a tough situation! Doctor Andrea- I am new to your channel. This video is very helpful! My recent lab work shows markers, but I have no outward symptoms. My doctor wants me to lose weight and follow a new eating lifestyle, along the lines of your suggestions. No or little red meat, no sugars or white products. Limit dairy & cheese, but I am going to sprinkle a little parmesan for flavor. I found a lovely Jasmine green tea to drink, have my Yoga corner set up, along with relaxation CDs. I normally cook at home from scratch. We are farmers who continue to shelter in place, so no restaurants. Thank you for your straight forward simple approach to regaining a healthy diet. I look forward to following your channel. ~ Diane

Been dealing with chronic back pain for years with bulged discs and just found out I have arthritis in my whole spine and bone spurs as well. Thanks for the info Doc. I am working on a plan to tackle this and your video helped with that.

Have they completely ruled out Ankylosing Spondylitis? Mine presented with bone spurs up and down my spine. Still pretty flexible, none have fused together yet.

I have had 3 back surgeries with disk removal and titanium cage added. I feel so much better and I can still do almost everything except lifting overhead. My last surgery was just last year. I have cervicalspinal epicondylitis with degenerative disk disease I already eat clean. Nothing processed no white breads and I grow my own stevia for sweetener

@@renel7303I have AS and have been thinking on trying an anti inflammatory diet to see if it will help. Did you try it and if so, did it help?
