I'm grateful to the miltary for developing NODS. We use them in civilian EMS aviation so we can operate (especially SAR) at night/ low light /poor visibility conditions and especially the thermal imaging has probably saved thousands of lives globally. If you're looking for some guy out at sea day or night, the thermal signature of a person stands out so vividly. Even bodies retain enough heat for hours to be picked up even if submerged (close to surface of course).
The Sicario scene where he sticks his finger in the trigger guard was done to purposefully leave an inaccurate pattern of gun fire in the target (at that range he wasnt going to miss much) to simulate a lower level of training in the attacker for those who would come after to analyze who the attacking party was and seek revenge which is very common in the Cartel-controlled AOE. They were purposefully trying to avoid operator-level precision and instead insinuate that the attack was perpetrated by a rival gang.
@Orcawhale1

Which still don't make any sort of sense. Because the gun in question is a 92F, which used to be standard issue for the US military. So it would still lead back to the US and not to the Cartels.

Should have had the scene from “The Interview”: - “Don’t worry it’s Dark the Tiger can’t see you - “It has night vision…” - “the tiger has night vision goggles! “ -“ No you idiot it just naturally has Night Vision!”
That night vision brings back memories. When I was in, back in the early 2000's, I used them PVS-7's all the time. Those are really hard to shoot with. Now there is a lot of awesome gear
@BlackRifleCoffeeCompany, you can in fact hide from thermal imaging using simple glass ( as long as you are not physically touching the glass giving it heat). Glass acts as a mirror, if you look directly as a window while using a thermal imager, you will see your own heat signature.
Cold war veteran here and in the 80's nvgs were available but very primitive and they were not issued to individuals they were initially attached to our rifles and not the helmets
That Benicio Del Toro “finger bang bang” move isn’t very traditional and technical, but it IS from real life. Narcos pull off that move usually in higher populated areas as a signal to others that hear that repeated bang that someone is being actively murdered and that this could happen to you, too.
My entire military career I never had to use NVG. Really appreciate the insight gained from these guys.

Lucky! In the beginning I always got these headaches having those PVS-7s on my brain bucket. The weight of those presses on my head that it took me some time to get used to. But they are sweet for light discipline driving
Okay seriously, how much absolutely fucked up shit did Daniel "Danthony" Hollaway say that had to be cut out? LOL😂
I agree man, the backstory on buffalo bill, he’s ex CIA , I’m always thinking about that kind of stuff, the backstory’s on villains that never get addressed. , glad I’m not the only one .
Always awesome to watch, this is not any different. Nice work
My favorite episode I like the technical explanations.
I think I read/heard somewhere that the NODs they used on the 13 Hours movie was props with green lights facing the actors to give that green glow, but weren't actual NODs lol That would suck if it was true
@kapten-awesome
11 ай бұрын
I just did a quick google on what NODs can cost and they can be stupidly expensive. I found some that cost $30k and to have one for every actor that's in a firefight and you have to have at least 1 pair of backup per actor if they break so that is a shit tone of money. So just faking it is so much cheaper and like 99.9% of the audience will never know anyway.

I always like Spike Jonze standing around base, broad daylight with the NV on in Three Kings.
Driving an M113 on a tank trail in the middle of a snowstorm in Grafowener Germany in 88 wearing Pvs-5's at 19 as a PFC was definitely a butt clenching experience. Blackout markers on the track ahead was almost invisible. Walking at night with Pvs-7's was almost a guaranteed twisted ankle, zero depth perception. Pvs-4 on a 249 or 60 was only good for the first burst due to whiteout. Good to see tech improving. The Paq4 wasn't horrible though with Pvs-7's.
As a fellow caldwell it's an honor to have the same last name as you. Thank you for your service
I had a set of the AN/PVS-5s issued to me in '86. It was so granular, you got a headache using it for more than 10 mins.
Dan getting hugged is the best part
Them bois are drinking my fav version of Black Rifle Coffee, smart men
Honestly, we "White Light" EVERYTHING! NOD's are great "pre-breach" moving to the Target, but "Post Breach" nothing beats a rifle or pistol weapon mounted flash light. For situational awareness and target acquisition.
Y'all missed how Toby Stephen's character as Glen 'Bub' was looking through his NVGs backwards while looking for Tonto's IR laser, haha
2-505 PIR got there as dan was leaving the 82nd
Everyone deserves someone to look at them the way Jamey looks at NODs.
Great vid.. Love the Tesla 👍
Damn y’all missed the opportunity for a 98 degrees plug when talking about the pano’s 😂 nick leche dude!!!!
gotta get that visor projected night vision that the f35 helmet has lol
Dan is the man!!
101st, 2/ 327inf 1983. I got to play with a starlight scope and an thermal imager. The thermal scope was huge and required nitrogen cartridges to cool down the sensor. Took two men to carry the thermal imager. I was also chosen to drive for the NAVSTAR contractors when developing and testing the new GPS system in 1984 at Ft Campbell. The unit I helped test was about as big as a PRC-77 and had a touch pad on a spaghetti cord. The 80’s were an awesome time for military advancements.
When i saw you bring up taylor sheridan it actually had me thinking if you guys could review the part in mayor of Kingstown whete they bring in the national guard to control the prison riot. Always wondered how realistic that was
Dan, definitely bringing that energy 😂😂😂

When I got back 1SG showed be the gain on the NVG and I ran the course again holy shit them bad boys work haha. The stars are something else.
May my muzzle flash light my way.
