Found about the phrygian mode yet? It is the same one as in Satti's song. I'm completely self-taught and not trained at all so I can only tell you that while the phrygian is almost always mentioned as a mode that provides an eastern flavor, the way it's used in genres that feature these influences prominently can be a bit misunderstood. In Greek, Turkish, Armenian etc musical tradition there can be some microtonal elements that when translated to equal temperament instruments, it is equally or even more likely that the third will be played sharp, as is the case here. Other times the song may leave this somewhat ambivalent, or both major and minor can be used in different parts. In western rock, you'll find this mode in Pink Floyd's "Set the controls for the heart of the sun" with a minor third, but in Rainbow's "Gates of babylon" it's major.

It's not dorian or mixolidian. Armenian folk is based on the phrygian and harmonic minor scale. You'll hear it clearly later in the song :)

Leonard Bernstein was in the car with his kids. He told them to put on the radio to tell him about the latest pop charts. She really got me going by the Kinks came on. They told their dad it was one of their favourites. He listened closely then said "Ah yes, mixolydian mode!" You just did a Bernstein. :-)

Dear Music Teacher, This is NOT fun for majority of Armenians who dislike her performance because this type Bollywood music, has NOTHING to do with Armenians. And her mimics, gorilla style jumpings neither. Believe us or not if she wins we'll be very sad, as she deformates the notion of real Armenian musical heritage. Be informed, we gave to the world such music giants like Charles Aznavour, Michel le Grand, Aram Khachaturian, Even Peter Tchaikovski has Armenian background. Also Arno Babajanyan, Komitas, Mickail Tariverdiev and many more ! This woman is a real shame for us !!! Besides she moves to France from Bielorussia, and Armenian nation has NOT chosen her to represent my country !!!
