Aristotle-Confucius Dialogue

If Aristotle and Confucius were able to come together to talk about globalization today, could they ultimately resolve some of its most pressing challenges? This dialogue imagines the two philosophers debating and determining the ways models of democracy and governance need to evolve.
Ban Ki-moon, 8th Secretary General of the United Nations; Chair, Ban Ki-moon Foundation for a Better Future
Jeffrey Sachs, Director, Center for Sustainable Development, Columbia University

Its shameful that the moderator brought up Ukraine and NOT brought up Iraq or Afghanistan. Ban KeeMoon also should be ashamed to only condemn Russia without condemning US , Britain and EU. Confucious had always regarded fairness as a cornerstone of his philosiphy...afterall where can there be ANY relationship without this fairness. Politeness, courtesy, which are Confucian values, demands a sense of FAIRNESS in an exchange of views!!! @@AxmedBahjad Bang Ki Moon is unfit to talk about Confucionism because he does not practised Confucionism. His pro-West stand totally goes against Confucion beliefs on Fair-play and the possesion of having virtue. Maybe because he is Korean he cannot understand Mandarin Classics in which Confucionism Philosophy is written. The Organisers are so Anti-China that they cannot bring in a Chinese scholar to represent Confucious! This shows how "objective" they are about solving World issues! It was all a show to protray a pro-Western ideology and even then they failed....because Jeffery Sachs was the only person, the true leader, there who was determined to send a true message to the World. Stop dreaming, Mo. American could never have a person of Sachs’ calibre as President. Even if he was able to negotiate the toxicity of the system to get through suspect primaries and was miraculously elected President by a thoughtful and mature electorate (which does not exist), he would be destroyed by the oligarchs and sycophantic media within hours of being inaugurated. Failing that, he would butt up against a sea of indifferent puke they call congress. A case in point - Obama. Comes in on a white horse, wearing shiny armour. He is like manna from heaven, and definitely promises to solve all the world riddles quickly and efficiently. The regard for this person is so high, they anoint him with a Nobel prize for peace, in anticipation of future saintly deeds. What actually happens is history. He turns out to be just another figurehead, falling in line with the established norms. He lets down his race, his country and the rest of the world. Sure, he shoots baskets and eats apple pie, but he also becomes expert in shooting death-dealing drones, and eating up other people’s security and economies. No, Jeffrey Sachs still has his fidelity and his integrity. It is something the he can never be stripped of, no matter how hard the establishment swill tries.

Jim, by morphing your words into action you’ve just created a GROUP- with THE RIGHT THINKING, RIGHT TOUCH. In that group though, there won’t be one single Jeff Sachs. He’s not striving, he’s not on the way to become somebody else, who he admires. He sees the world lacks respect, so he gifts the world with respect. He sees the world lacking the honesty, so he finds the guts to be honest. It’s as simple as that, and as blue as that.

Sachs doesn’t have a misunderstanding of Machiavelli. Machiavelli, or any other trickster, is not able to see the things as they are, they see the things as they want them to be. You can see it on anyone brainwashed with Western propaganda about democratic Ukraine, evil (stupid, terrible technology) Russia, etc

Of course there is a difference between the American surveillance "democracy" and the Chinese surveillance state. One state uses surveillance to keep not only its own population down but even the rest of the world, whereas the other uses surveillance to help improve its people's lives. Ask yourself, who spied on Julian Assange while he was held up in the Ecuadorian embassy and who spied on Angela Merkel while she was in office? Meanwhile, China is using surveillance on its veggie fields to help its farmers spray less pesticide in a more targeted manner in order to raise more and better quality crops or it is using its surveillance to warn people to temporarily leave their homes to avoid conflict with an adventurous elephant family that is strolling around stealing booze in the area of Kunming.

He had to set the record straight about the US's and NATO's broken promises to Russia. But at the same time, he showed courtesy to the moderator who sadly had to interrupt in deference to his sponsor, the NYT. I used to think American (NATO) foreign policy was evil, (still do), but I always believed American foreign policy didn't reflect true American values. I'm wrestling with that and am currently undecided but getting close to changing my mind. In 1994 Tonya Harding (American figure skater) destroyed (broke her knee) Nancy Kerrigan because she couldn't win fairly. Was that an anomaly or is that how most Americans compete? That's exactly what America is doing with Russia, Europe, China, and virtually every small country they deal with. If America can't compete, it destroys. Everybody knows it and they silently support it. Remember when Pompeo bragged at a Texas A&M university that the CIA "we lie, we steal, we cheat,' ? Well that's not really news but what I found scary was how the entire audience laughed and applauded. Americans seem to support cheating and lying and destroying anyone who might succeed. Americans stopped their government in the Vietnam war. Why have Americans not stopped their government from the continuous regime change, invasions, sanctions, and proxy wars that kill and impoverish people every day? So either America is not a democracy or the majority of Americans are as evil as the CIA and their foreign policy.
