Over 30 years ago a Japanese manager adviced me: " beware anglosphere (5 "eye") countries because they master three complementary strengths: 1) They very effectively turn world opinion on their side as being natural expression of "goodness". 2) If that is not effective they don't hesitate going to war for which they are always well prepared in advance. 3) In war, avoid fighting in their own territory to minimize civilian casualties and damage to country infrastructure.

Bingo! You have hit the nail on the head. This is why you keep hearing "experts" like John Joseph Mearsheimer an American political scientist who keeps alluding to the fact the US has "stop and save" the world by defeating three "despotic cataclysmic precipice" single-handedly. More important the US has not only ended up victorious but came out stronger. Whereas countries like China does not have that experienced. However, what John Mearsheimer forgets to tell is that all these "American victories" took place on other people territories. America and Americans did not have to face the horrors of wars - the destruction, deaths, disruptions etc. One they face war on American soil, maybe John Mearsheimer won't be so "brave" about America being invincible!

It's the 5 eyes led by the US that is most arrogant. They always say they care about the freedom of speech of those people in the countries they are against. But in truth, they just want to hurt those countries because they are competing for some resource that they cannot easily take without paying full price. If they really cared about individual people, then they would start with looking after their citizens using their own resources without trying to grab at the resources of others. It's like ftx being able to be generous with other people's money. And at the same time pocketing some of it for themselves. When it costs them personally, they can no longer be so generous.

In the 1980s the West used to call the fast rising economies of Asia (Japan, Taiwan, S.Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore) as "Little Tigers". In the 1990s, China, and Malaysia grew fast. In 2010s Vietnam and Indonesia showed fast growth. During all of those decades Western countries experienced no growth. In 2020, Asia's total GDP has surpassed Western Europe.

I have seen many Chinese commenters say this about Europe that it will decline. I know you are saying this because of the huge influx of migrants. You guys are something else. Europe would actually fall without the migrants. They are about to have a large aging population that needs care and people to fill up that void so that their pension system does not collapse. Then they are about to see some people leave when the global south starts developing another possibility for collapse. Then they have issues with their election system and rise of the extreme right which everyone knows the extreme right is nationalist and sometimes socialist. Socialist, nationalist, conservative regimes tend to stumble the economic growth of a nation, because their way of thinking limits creativity and thus people that want to create new concepts. So I do not even know what you are saying. Both Europe and the US will not collapse. If one collapse the other collapses. You are funny.

Most of us living in Taiwan have wised up to DDP's vote-grabbing tactic by claiming Taiwan's sovereignty while poking at Mainland China instead of cooperating with them for the greater good of our economy & stability. The recent local election in Taiwan saw DDP soundly thrashed by KMT candidates and president Tsai stepping down from DDP chairmanship.

In the current state, I'm not sure the US, as a nation, is capable of long term strategies. There is frequent change of government officials every 2 -6 years, often replaced by people of dissimilar ideologies and goals. On top of that, officials that are put in charge have decreased in quality significantly over the past 5 to 10 years, so much so that many of these people would never have been elected to hold government positions in practically any other country. Frankly, and I'm serious when I say this, long term geopolitical strategies are too complex for many of these people to comprehend.

Why isn’t anyone talking about the elephant in the room - the current Ukraine conflict goes back to the fall of the Soviet Union, where the American-led NATO assured the Soviets/ Russians that NATO would not expand an inch eastwards towards Russia’s border. That promise was never kept (as the Americans have proven the can’t be trusted). Any country would feel threatened if a military alliance (NATO) that sees them as an enemy expands right up to their border. I used to think Russia’s actions were inexcusable, but I definitely see Russia’s point of view and why they had to invade Ukraine in 2014 and 2022. As a fellow Singaporean, I’m surprised Mr Kishore Mabuhbani doesn’t raise this crucial historical point in his various speeches and talks around the world. It does give context to this Russia-Ukraine war. Renowned American economist, Prof. Jeffery Sachs, brings up this historical aspect of the current war. I really respect Professor Sachs. He calls a spade a spade. The Americans have provoked Russia- pushing it to a corner and using Ukraine to engage in a proxy war with Russia.

Please try not to mispronounce the name Xi as a Gee, Jee, or Shee. The proper pronunciation under Chinese pinyin is a lighter form of Si, When in doubt, Si is approximately quite close. To be more precise, Chinese pinyin, Xi Jinping's family name is pronounced like an English 's' except lighter. Pronounced like the word "see" with a small modification of pushing the sound through your front teeth and opening your lips horizontally. I am quite happy Prof Kishore has got most of his pinpoints of China correctly. His SHE is less wrong, but still wrong, and he should simply get a Professor from Nan Yang University to coach him on a simple "s" through front teeth,. It is the host of this clip who insists on being wrong with GEEE.

Well perhaps, the British asked a Canonese speaker and he said in Cantonese, Pak Keng. In the same failed scholarship, when Deng Xiao-ping returned to the top, Time magazine, based in Hong Kong, took it upon themselves to be The authority to teach westerner how to pronounce the "Deng" as "D-Uhg" so it has remained Dung in the tongues of westerners no matter how supposedly expter that westerner is held high in the west. Kevin Rudd, former Aussi Prme Minister, who is literate in Chinese, is unfortunately also still doing Dung.

The colonial Brits sure did emasculate the Chinese language willy-nilly. Hugely influenced by their Preachers the Comanders got their Wade-Gilles system translation of Chinese names. Hence, the language of Beijing area was codified as Mandarin, from Man-Da-Ren, meaning Manchurian Big Man ['s officials speak]. The Brits in a move to split HK residents from the mainland, insisted on teaching till 1997, Chinese teachings in HK using Cantonese rather than the Mandarin that was set as National Language since 1911 and has been for China as well as the KMT Taiwan. Western preachers had a good discipline of going to a village in China and for about 7 years concentrated on learning to speak fluently before starting to preach. Therefore, the Brits called the city Xiamen "Amoy" because that is close to the Hokkien pronunciation of the exact same words of the city. And Hong Kong was spelled by the British from the local Cantonese Hiong Kong, quite close except using the Brit light K, rather than the hard K pinyin as G, for Gang. Guangzhou was twisted to Canton, from the Cantonese sound Kwong Toong [Wade-Gilles] Side effect of this Brit parochialism is that in the Chinatowns of the world up till recently, the dialect used in retail business tends to be Cantonese. We who are wholesalers, other dialects, have a saying. "Why are Cantonese people born?" Answer:"Somebody has to pay retail."
