Love this ship. I mine solo in it. I’m in no rush so the short journey to the turret’s no problem to me, even if I have to get back to the bridge to adjust position etc. As a solo player I’m happy to trade its disadvantages just for pride of ownership 😊

Me too, I find putting the rock right by my feet whilst in the cockpit sets it up in a great place not to have to climb back up!

Great review of the MOLE Farrister. I've been a crew member on one but don't own one myself as the price is a little more than my current budget allows. I'd love to own one, but most of the time I operate alone, and though the MOLE can be used by one player, it's better with a crew, as the single player would have to land, and go down to the turret to use it. Having three lasers, sometimes is excellent as you can have different mining heads on each one and it will help to crack a rock faster. Coordination between the operators is really important when doing this. I believe someone calculated the storage capacity of the MOLE and it is triple of what a Prospector holds. That means serious increase in profits from a run. Thank you, and fly safe. I'll see you in the verse.

Makes mining a fun group experience, very nice ship!

Cheers for the review. i do a LOT of mining (its my only source of income) and im thinking of upgrading from the Prospector to something bigger. nice to see that it can be used for solo mining as well. I'm convinced and will be my next buy.

I pledged for a mole and don't regret it. Multiple lasers make rocks stable as heck to break as the effects stack even with one idle. Another thing i love is the reverse thrusters are fixed on the hull, and not linked to the VTOL transition, so your stop time/speed is predictable, unlike something like a cutlass. The mole has decent rock scannimg range at 3k and the interior just feels like it should for an industrial miner. I just wish the turrets had their own lights as it would look way cooler and ve more practical for night mining on planets.

Another fantastic review. I do believe I am very overdue for a ship mining trial. I know it has it's risks but it can also be pretty lucrative. Now it's just a matter of grinding the credits for one and a cargo hauler.

@@Farrister I've done lots of ROC mining, some Hand mining as well. But I've only gone ship mining once or twice just to test the waters during the free fly event. Used the Prospector we had access to. But the Mole seems like an entirely different beast compared to the Prospector.

It's a good ship if you have friends who also like mining. The interiors are very neat too. I still prefer the Prospector for running solo because of the convenience of not having to jump off the seat every time you find a good rock. The last time I mined was in 3.11 and with the ore distribution changes that might have changed though.

Yeah I'd usually pick the Prospector for planetside, but nowadays I'd take the Argo for space mining, even solo, simply due to the higher cargo capacity

I watched Raptor and RedViking mine with theirs. Looked pretty fun mmo games with others FTW!

Yeah, being able to do more with power would be cool, maybe a power management mini game like the mining one?

Really a nice video. I have an Orion, so a Mole is part of the loaners. Every time we fly out, we don't really care about profit, it is more the immersion that we like. Cause, truth be told, the big money is with a prospector in a Quantanium Asteroid Field. But there was one little mistake in your vid. You said, that the bigger mining lasers on the Mole make it easyer to open more demanding rocks. That is not the case, due to the fact that they have the same power and the same slots for consumables as the S1 lasers. The main difference is the range in which you can operate. That, of course, can make it at least a little safer when you have a bigger distance to the rock.

Oh that's helpful, thank you! I find it much easier to break down big rocks with the Mole than the Prospector - I've not found a single rock yet that the s2 Helix can't break through solo, but I find that happens quite a lot in my Prospector. Anecdotal, I know.

@@Farrister The Helix was a godlike laser for some time. Now that it has been severely nerfed, it is not the one and only any more imo. I use the Lancet with consumables and get every rock cracked. At least until 3.13 when they introduce bigger asteroids. That will be fun. Have a nice one.

Being able to have a helix and lancet is the moles biggest advantage, it can make quant rocks incredibly stable and easy to mine with multiple lasers on target

*enemy ship approaches* Captain: "crew, it appears we are now a salvage vessel, focus drills on hostile target and get cutting" *all turrets swivel around from the asteroid and fix onto the soon-to-be scrap pile*

As an Elite player, my main activities are Exploration, Mining and Cargo hauling. I generally don't like combat, especially when it's PvP. So, looking a the Mole, I am forced to wonder if I can DO those things in this ship? I like the aesthetic (that industrial, working ship style, with the orange colours and such), and the design is pleasing to me. I like the layout and bridge. Obviously, I can use it for mining, but can I haul cargo? Does it make a feasable explorer? (I should say, I will most likely be solo 99% of the time)

Mining - yes, although if you're mining alone, arguably the experience would be better in the Prospector. Exploration - I guess, it's probably not the ideal choice for that as it's very mining specialised. Cargo hauling - the MOLE doesn't do that at all, it has no cargo storage, only self contained storage for the things it mines, which currently can't be used interchangeably with cargo (not aware of any plans to do so).

I've been playing only about a day and have a Question to ask of you. I went into Tammy & Sons to pick up a Mining Rucksack to carry the ore in. After going through with the purchase is it supposed to spawn on me? where does it go. I immediately tried to purchase another one it took my money but no Rucksack in my inventory can you help me find it?

Yeah it should just spawn in your inventory. It's a heavy armour chest piece, so hit F1 and check your armour page, hopefully it's in there! You may need to be wearing an undersuit first

the lasers are the true combat armament of the MOLE. Once cut a aggressive red player in a caterpillar with the side laser in just a few seconds. Short range but can be more effective than guns .

Did they change something with size 2 lasers that I don't know about? You mention it's able to break larger rocks than the prospector yet all I see is that size 2 mining heads only extend the optimal mining range.

I love the MOLE, but I don't like solo mining in it. I'd still rather jump in my Prospector when I can't find a crew. Also, orange Argo is the ONLY Argo! ;)

@@Farrister that’s kind of what I thought. The same thought occurred to me watching vids of the 890 jump boarding in progress mission. I was thinking it would be funny if you could open the cargo elevator from below and use the handheld tractor beam to pull npcs into space. The physics of the game probably wouldn’t allow it though.

Even the kitchen area looks heavy duty.

There are effectively 2 "storage" elements - the cargo storage, which is where you buy and sell big box commodities from trade terminals, and the ship internal inventory, which stores things you buy from shops (armour, weapons, ship equipment etc.). They currently use a very different interface (one is done via trade terminal, the other is done via inventory screen)

@@Farrister cool, thanks for replying. So it works as a pretty decent freight runner and miner then. Yeah it costs a bit of aUEC, but if you get 2for1 it might work out. 🤔

It does make me a bit disappointed that it seems that this ship could potentially be fitted with stronger weaponry but it's kept "in its function" by game limitations. I just always imagined that in a game like this one could do its own "Millennium Falcon" - a highly modded utility ship that could be stuff of legend. It would seem that if one would like to keep M.O.L.E.s "in their function", it wouldn't be by restricted modding of the ship, but by working the in-game economy and society towards making a military-modded utility ship a high-risk, high-reward thing

I agree in part - given the power needed to run the lasers, the option to swap them for laser turrets might be nice. That said, I'm not sure the MOLE would be very practical in combat even so, it's incredibly sluggish!

I wouldn't even go that way - you said that eventually a tractor beam feature would be added unto the Caterpillar - if it could be fitted unto the MOLE, and if there's also a type of EMP homing torpedo or burst, one could make a MOLE a sort of ambush predator. It would attract enemies with its inconspicuous nature, then pick fighters apart by neutralizing them for a bit, using the tractor beam to hold them in place and then the mining laser to cut them apart. A little squad of 3 of these could be quite dangerous, I think. Or even 2 of these and an interdictor

only real issue of this ship is the mining turrets not being able to tilt up enough so pilot and turrets are looking at the same thing easily

I usually like your reviews...but this one is a bit ridiculous. You spent talking more about combat (for wich this ship IS NOT INTENDED TO) then mining (wich this ship is ACTUALLY INTENDED)...I find it ridiculous that only a minimal part of the video is dedicated to it's actually role and mechanic. You failed...I'm sorry.
