    Farrister, your ships reviews are the best. I watch'em even if I know everything about the ship. You bring good points and you don't overhype / overdrama ships as many other youtubers. I like the format of your videos and time stamps are well thought. If I can complain about something is that you don't make reviews more often and you don't talk much about the concepts, while I would love to hear your thoughts about Crucible or Liberator :-)

    Thank you for your thoughts! It takes me a while to do each ship review, because I need to a) earn the funds to actually buy the ship, and b) fly the ship for around 2 weeks so I get a good feel for the ins and outs of it. Noted about the concepts - both of those are interesting to me! But would be highly speculative ;)

    When I first got my Prospector, I had difficulty finding the mining materials I was looking for, because I had no idea what I was doing at the time. I took a break and did a bunker and cave mission. Then I went back to mining and found some good minerals to take to the refinery. Bring a Multi tool with a tractor beam with you, if you want to do box missions with it. I see this as a multi-tasker's dream come true. Bringing a box from a box delivery mission to use as a marker when you find the Mother-load of Quantainium might be a good idea. BTW, your videos are always top notch! Keep it up!

    With the current event, I took out the prospector for the first time. Talk about an unfinished ship in the eyes of the little things, like panels opening (they do not). One of my favorite things about the Vanguard variants is the module panels open to reveal what you actually have in them. Upgrade your shield generator and take a look at it in action. Seeing not a single panel opens truly blew my mind at the little effort that went into this ship, but again, simple things that just weren't done. No access to the back also is pretty lame. A catwalk in just dodging cables and hoses would have been something, but to buy a rig that's this size and only have a closet worth of space to explore that has it's panels nailed shut is as if this was an actual concept ship that never saw day two of development. Before I got into SC, this was one of the ships I thought I would first get and more than once it was nearly in my cart. Thankfully I took advantage of the event and saw how sad of a ship it is. I'll still eventually get one since SC gets very boring after you have a major player (ship) in all other categories, but by the time I try ship mining, the Arrastra will most likely be out. It too has major drawbacks if hey do all they say, but we'll see. For the record, and for new folks out there listening to all the people saying how much this makes per hour, all I can say is I hope they're wrong because you can do way better than that with a ROC and a ship to transport it. I made 5 mil in a couple of days with that and there aren't as many steps as ship mining where you have to get it refined and then do missions to get the better money for your minerals. Adds something to your day though, so that part isn't bad in itself. Anywho, great video. I just can't get over how abandoned I see this ship as being.

    Outstanding review of the Prospecor, Farrister. I love this ship and have a couple of them. I bought one and was given one. I like to leave them at different locations so I can just go there and pull one out and start mining without having to wait for the slow quantum drive that comes stock in them. They do help me earn a good amount of credits and it's relaxing to just go out and mine. Thanks for the excellent review, take care, and I'll see you in the verse.

  • @billyhyde1415
    @billyhyde14152 жыл бұрын

    The Prospector is fantastic fun, and I use mine when I want to chill out, fly around and snoop, and do something a little different while still making decent (but not overwhelming) money. However, this is ABSOLUTELY NOT a good choice as your first or only ship, for a couple of key reasons: (1) To get the most out of mining you'll want to refine your ore, and once it's refined, the Prospector can't carry it to a destination for sale. However, most mining trips will see you end up with somewhere around 20, 40, or 60 SCU of good trade material after the refining is done, which means a Prospector pairs very nicely with the Nomad, Cutlass, or Freelancer as the means to get your refined ore to market - you have the needed room for one, two, or three mining trips in those partner vessels, without wasting a bunch of space. Once it becomes available, the very inexpensive Hull A might also make a very good candidate for this light cargo role. (2) While the Prospector performs well enough in space or in the low gravity and thin atmosphere of moons, getting it from a landing zone to space is absolutely dismal - it will take you just as long to get out to space in a Prospector as it would a Reclaimer or Starfarer, thanks to its poor aerodynamics and acceleration, and the low overall power of its thrusters. As with point 1, you're going to want a second ship to do this leg of a journey, and ONLY board a Prospector from a space station. The trip's also likely to cost you a lot of fuel, too - though it's inexpensive to replace, it's still best to just avoid the cost altogether. When you mine, the main investment you're making is time -- and while mining CAN offer a quick and lucrative turnaround, it's not likely to do so consistently, since the variety in target deposits you can find is fairly large and fairly random, and knowing both what to look for and where to find it takes some practice. You're also pretty much a sitting duck when you're mining, and your heat, EM activity, and scanning pings will make you easier to pick out as a target of opportunity for those nearby. All of this basically means that PATIENCE is the greatest asset you'll have as a miner. Take the time to be picky about the rocks you break and the bits you take from them. Take the time to learn how to find the Aaron Halo consistently, or to float down to a moon's surface from orbit, rather than zipping out from a quantum jump to a surface installation. If you're mining on a moon, take the time to pick up a simple box mission on it, so you can leave the pickup boxes as markers for good return spots, since you'll invariably fill your bags before the ore is gone. Even then, accept that sometimes it'll take you 15 minutes to find a nice motherlode, while other times it'll take an hour.

    I think the price on the Prospector is ok. I melted my Cutlass Black and my ROC + $5 to make the Prospector my "starter" ship. If you wanna talk overpriced, $50 for a ROC is ridiculous, and the Cutlass has been broken and/or nerfed so many times it's not really good at anything anymore. I have always liked the idea of a multi-role "jack-of-all-trades" ship. In Elite Dangerous I had a Corvette that I could refit to do anything... exploration, mining, combat, trading, etc. In SC you have to have a fleet of purpose-built ships for the best experience. The Prospector is the fastest way to build that fleet after a wipe. Thanks for the video. Cheers!

    The Prospector can currently earn a player enough in one year for them to buy literally all of the other ships, vehicles, components, and every armor set and weapon sold in-game, but since it’s available for rent, you might as well use the rental to earn enough to buy it in-game. I love the Prospector for its profitability, but my acct hangar is for fun ships like racers and fighters that might get destroyed often and could use LTI after the game launches. The Prospector is profitable enough to easily pay for itself and its running costs, and is more of a ‘means to an end’ for my gameplay preferences. Also, I expect it to become less profitable after the introduction of cargo refactor, the dynamic economy, and its final rebalancing pass before launch. Either way, I’d highly recommend it to anyone who wants to earn a lot with low risk of getting killed (compared to other gameplay loops)

  • @citizeninja

    @citizeninja

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Farrister I haven't tested it yet in 3.16, but in 3.14-3.15 we could swap rental components by disabling the rental timer. I learned to mine quant with the stock Arbor laser during the 3.14 free-fly event before I learned lasers could be upgraded, and I only stumbled upon the rental timer exploit at the end of that free-fly event. That rental timer exploit was nice for stripping IAE rentals of their components, especially the alien ships with their ballistic-repelling shields. If they've fixed rentals so we can't upgrade them anymore, then yeah, the stock Prospector laser would limit many new miners on what they can mine, but it's still highly recommended as a consistent aUEC printing-press.

    I think (but not sure) that you can jettison the pods and have someone else pick them up. Is this implemented yet? Those cargopods are cloth looking, so they're compact when storing and you can just pop open another one after having jettisoned something out. The idea being that the miner just mines happily around while some faster craft collects and delivers the ore. Like a combine harvester and tractor combo. Or I'm just remembering things wrong. If you are mostly a solo player and like to take things easy, this definitivly is worth the mony to upgrade from your starter or any other ship you may have. Plus there's a cool looking blue skin for it Everything you need to know is in the video. When looking around the asteroid fields it is best to keep an eye out for laranite, borase and bexalite; everything else is not worth it, unless you have to bring it along because it's part of a chunk. If you like the risk, have good quantum etc, Quantanium is the way to got. But I found the normal ore much mor enjoyable. I DID do an experiment where I burned up my friend with the mining laser. I could not collect him afterwards. SCIENCE!

    I have yet to figure out how to log out in the bed. I have searched all over the bed and only command available is to get up, when the background lights up. There are no commands to select. BTW, all ships drift to the left. It is just more noticable in the Prospector, because you typically make finer movements while mining. It definitely is not a first ship, and mining with things like a ROC is suggested as a first step. The Prospector for me is a really good ship to have, but that is specific to my personal playstyle. For group outings I bring my Mole out. With a crew and proper outfitting, the Mole can get you into the big bucks, until the Orion arrives. Mining isn't for everyone and takes patience. Group mining takes even more patience, which many would find counter to what is expected from a game. I just wish they would fix the bed.
