Just as a note, the Blue's QED can't pull ships out of Quantum, only stop them jumping away. The larger version on the Mantis is the one that also pulls ships out. Other than that, nice rundown and great video ^^

Hey, this one needed a bit more research. Like other people mentioned the QSD device is to snare people so they can not QT away from you which is huge for pvp just the problem is its short range like 2km. The most important feature though beside the nice guns and the huge missile payload (that can shoot 4 at a time, huge plus) is its SCM speed which is about 200 and the almost infinite boost that makes it maybe the fastest medium sized and components ship that can keep up with everything you want. That is why the price is trying to reflect its superior capabilities. I have met many criminals with Blues with 4 Mantis guns and spamming you with clusters of 4 S1 (from the 48 it has) missiles and its a force to be respected.

I have all the cutlass variants because I love drake ships. The blue is fun but your right it's no different than the black and I'm hoping for the BH profession to be fleshed out with detain like the same effort that was put into mining.

Thank you! I'd check out Subs videos for those, they're really helpful and I often use them when I'm playing with loadouts. For the most part, I only really change out the weapons (I prefer fixed weapons, and ballistic repeaters), and the quantum drive (I got better things to do than stare at space!). Largely, for most ships, the other components are just fine tuning and don't make a material difference.

It's a nice ship and earning it ingame is a good way to go as it feels hopelessly overpriced in comparison with the Black in USD. I would say it should not really cost more than 125 bucks for what you get.

Fantastic review, as always. I like using the Blue to go after prison escapees. Bounties are usually traveling in packs or never leave Grim Hex, leaving it pretty useless for those situations. Great ship though!

I'm surprised that you didn't mention that Blue is actually a VERY fast ship. SCM is not it's only feature. It's forward acceleration is amazing and allows it to reach max speed in a few seconds. Max speed itself is also notable, many light fighters just won't be able to quit your fire range by straight runaway tactic. By comparison with light fighters this ship is sluggish in maneuvers, but when it comes to actually interdicting running targets a.k.a. "drag racing in space", you wouldn't find anything better of it's size except Crusader Starrunner. Blue is actually a perfect choice for BHG pilots since you can go hit&run tactics: follow your prey, hoard it with rockets, add some gunfire, blow it up and just push pedal to the metal. Reach max speed and just QT out. Your target is eliminated, you don't need to stay and fight the whole crowd. You're not a soldier or militia, your job is to get 1 exact target. If they have Mantis and it keeps you anchored - no problem. Run away at max acceleration up to top speed, turn around and just shoot anything that try to chase you while hardening front shield. Not many ships will be able to get you. Most bad-ass well-armed-and-armored ships cannot reach you due to low speed. Those ships who can are too lightweight and cannot withstand direct firefight (like Mantis, Arrow etc.) Their maneuverability won't help them, since even little maneuver with drastically drop distance between you. The only issue this ship have for a solid bounty hunter is it's EM/IR visibility. You can't come close to your target unnoticed thx to S2 powerplant and shield. But not only they makes your presence obvious to your prey. Those beautiful, fast&furious main thrusters are insane source of IR. You may check the difference with Black version: strip ALL components from them and see how much difference to IR those thrusters are making. I did bounty hunting on many ships, I tried almost all of them that have at least some sense to use (best fun you can get by using counter-piracy covert operations on Caterpillar, but pirates soon learned that trick and don't get fooled again). I tried a lot... but Blue is still the best choice. It is good for solo and amazingly fit in any hunting party, allowing to close any gaps due to its versatility. Best use in a group of 3+ ships by combining Blue with stealth-build Sabers. Some people say Mantis is better for QD anchoring, but Mantis is too fragile and can't stand too long under concentrated fire. Mantis is good for piracy, since it can kick targets off QT and haulers can't get cautious Mantis pilot. But against well-armed pirates it is useless, so I prefer Blue. I think that for a dedicated Bounty Hunters Guild pilot this ship's cost worth every single penny. But if you're new to Star Citizen, even with good bounty hunting background from other games, don't rush to buy it. Check BH gameplay on cheaper ships, see how it works, play solo and in hunting parties, die hard and only then you might realize how much of a gem Blue is.

The qed is used by pirates currently, and yes there is a lot of profit to be made, just watch space cutlets stream on occaison plus other it gets a lot of use. and works brilliantly on anything slower than it same as with the rsi mantis.

This video just made my decision clearer that my next ship will be the Cutlass Black. I prefer the 1/2 cost for same combat abilities and I'd prefer more cargo space for cargo runs.

I use mine for pvp bounties, good dps, many missiles, ok shield, awsome qt for jumping over the system and since many don't know the QED from the blue and if they want to jump away it's mostly too late to get away. Huge plus is also the best view out of the cockpit you don't get in any other ^^ I just hope they make it useable via keybind like the emp!

One bonus the Blue has over the other Cutlasses is a better view with that bubble cockpit glass. Of the three Cutlasses, however, you're correct in that the Blue is the most limited, functionally. The Black has the cargo space, and the Red has the med-beds for respawning -- as well as being the only Cutlass with lavatory facilities.

@@Farrister It's no more troublesome to me than the Avenger series instrument 'hump', but our perceptions are subjective, and thus pointless to argue.

While I like the design of the individual cells, I don't like the implications of having so many; it's like some kind of prison bus (maybe it's for when a football team goes rogue). So no I am not very confident CIG are going to have the Blue provide the gameplay I originally expected. Nonetheless, good review and great video, keep it up :)

If it weren't for the console feeling so imposing, I'd be mindful to agree!

It has more Hull HP, more shields, more missiles, it's actually faster and it has the QED if compared to the Cutlass Black. So yeah I would say that it's straight up a better version with the only downfall of having less cargo storage but honestly 12 SCUs is not bad at all but obviously you lose the ability to transport a ROC, but that's totally not the goal of this ship anyway. Ah and I almost forgot the docking collars/airlocks adds a bit more versatility too.

it's a rich choice even in game but with -its more efficient propulsion than its “black” variant -One of the smallest and most agile ships equipping a size 2 quantum generator -its decent firepower alone or with two crews makes it for me one of the best allday choices for moving quickly from mission to mission, perfect for anti-pirate mercenary work

The Cutlass Blue now has a top speed of 1300 and with its size 2 QD it really can get you around the verse quickly. I am set on upgrading my 350r to one this weekend at Drake Interplanetary and have my WB CCUs at the ready :)

I'm sticking with the cutlass black. I like the QED feature on this thats about it. Don't like the airlock doors. The cargo hold is cut short for the prision cells that don't do anything yet. Maybe in years this ship will be worth it, but not right now.

Yep, it only has the Quantum Dampener which prevents ships from leaving as long as they're in range. The only ship capable of pulling people out of QT in the first place, is the Mantis.

I own a Blue, and it looks great, but you made a great point. There's no real reason to choose it over the Black. One thing you didn't point out about the QED, its range is only 1km, which is nothing. Less storage, low scm speed, obscured frontal view, and impractical live bounty space (I highly doubt I'm going to drag VIP targets through a whole station to bring them aboard) make it underperforming and underwhelming.

Correction here. The QED on the blue only has the dampener, meaning preventing you from engaging. It does *not* have the snare. The mantis is the only ship I the game with a snare, though it does also have a dampener. Secondly, the blue doesn't just have the QED over the black. You trade your cargo for considerable armouring.

Helpful - I find a way to actually use the QED to test it! When you say it trades for armament, do you mean armouring? The armament is the same between the 2 ships.

@@Farrister excuse the typo, I have fixed it! Yes I did mean armoring, though it may not be significant now, but CIG has said that the blue will be a fair bit tougher than the black. Right now the black has 10% armor and the blue 12%, but these are of course temporary numbers. Last thought about the blue is I envision it more as an armored prisoner transport, even if cif says it's for bounty hunting. No bounty hunter is gonna wait till they have 12 guys to turn them into prison. But if I am a warden at klescher and I need a few prisoners transported to another system, no point calling the caterpillar for just a dozen prisoners, I'll hire the guy with the blue.

If the Cutty were modular, I'd put this cockpit on the Blk. and swap the turret for the head from the Red. If I were DREAMING, I'd have the habitation lockable and make the bunks be a med bed.

In this review you seem to have a lot more firepower than in the Cutlass Black video. Did you have someone firing the turret in the Blue review or is there some way to use that as a single player?

For the most part no, the firepower upgrade was due to using fixed size 3 instead of gimbal 2, and at a time when ballistic weapons were king. I don't know of a way to use turret as solo pilot, I'm fairly sure it needs to be manned.

i wonder were CIG will put all the components in the Cutty(all variants)

Right now I would favour the Vanguard, just for my style, with those big guns. Worth adding though that bounty hunting gameplay isn't really well fleshed out right now, it's mostly just clumsy 'kill' missions, so that may change in the future!

This cannopy is also the best one for me. I did buy a blue because I hope in the future they bring modularity to the game, if I can change a prision cells area for a medical one I will be very happy. My guessing because of prices is: Black: no modular options. Red: Medical area or Cargo area. Blue (the most expensive one): the three options. But it is a blind shot. Best regards.

Hay bud can you help or recommend what i can do to fix. Sorry this not about the cutty b, I ejected from my f7c two days ago and when i clame back it spawns with no seat.... i have had it blown up and clamed bk at different place and still no seat. I dont want to reset my guy as not want to lose all my gear again. What do you recommend i do.

The Blue was on sale during the last Expo in November. It will likely be on sale in the end of May during fleet week on Drake's show day. Show ships are usually rentable for free to test drive before you buy as well. I tried the blue at the 2950 expo event last November. It's a slower, tougher RSI Mantis with a token amount of cargo. Most of its interior space is wasted right now. Unless ship interdiction is a major gameplay role to you the Cutty Black or Red are better values for real cash.

I just wish the canopies of the other Cutlass ships were upgraded to ones like this ship's.

Id almost pay the price for the better visibility!

Nice video with good points. I do take exception with labeling anyone wanting to use QED is a "griefer". Simply wanting to PvP, and even force a PvP encounter, doesn't make you a "griefer"; just a PvP'er. A true "griefer" is someone who ruins the game for someone else by constantly and consistently going out of their way to badger, berate, belittle, and abuse game mechanics to the extent the game becomes completely unplayable for a player victim.

@@larrymitchell6470 per definition. Greifing involves unintended mechanics. The devs added a device to force pvp. The use of said device is therefore not greifing. Just bc ur or the majority enjoy pve does not mean that pvpers are automatically greifers and the scum of the earth. That's simply a biased perspective. A good example of greifing would be like putting a box next to a bed that causes ppl spawning there to be stuck forever. Utilizing bugs, glitches, or in someway turning what's supposed to be safe zones into death traps. Are all great examples of greifing.

You might get tempted by a Cutlass Black, or one of the combat fighters. But the Avenger should still be a great starter ship, you could always upgrade in game later on?

It's a Cutlass. There's the QED that might be marginally useful but other than that nothing a Black couldn't do. Maybe more so when capturing bounties alive becomes a thing. Also, where's the QED device, in a Mantis it takes a significant amount of space.

It entirely depends on which one and if you're thinking 'current state' or what it's supposed to be like on release. in current terms: Cutlass black: yes.(versatility now and in-future) Cutlass Red, yes (for ability to respawn aboard if killed on the ground bow. Medical play in future) Cutlass Blue, maybe (depends on if hassling others is your idea of fun. Bringing in live bounties in-future.)

Maybe... So firstly I'd say, if you're happy with the game and don't want to pay any more, don't feel like you have to - Avenger Titan is really solid to unlock this stuff on launch. But the Cutlass is even more versatile, so you can probably use it to do even more. Moreover, I think it's likely to always stay fairly relevant - in all of the previous patches, it's been consistently fairly good. But that's just my opinion :)

What respectable county or nation would use a drake ship? Shit is romania in space now too???

What! I didnt know that other ships than RSI mantis have the snare thing, I feel betrayed. (Reclaimer review hehe?)

I originally bought a Cutlass Black, then upgraded it to a Blue, and then melted it down to get a Connie Andromeda. I really regret it. Anyone know if I can make the Connie too get my Blue back, considering it's a limited availability kinda thing? Or am I shit outta luck?

Wait until Invictus Launch Week at the end of May. Drake day should make the Blue available for purchase again, then you can melt your Connie and buy the Blue with store credit. Just make sure your Connie isn't your only ship (your game package) otherwise you'll need to buy another game package to keep playing.

I like the idea of the Connie but I seriously doubt I'll have enough friends who play as much as me to make it a worthwhile investment, and a solo ship it is not. The Blue is more viable when solo, and it's more likely I'll have at least one buddy around to run a turret or fly.

Until the need to actually carry prisoners comes the ship is pretty much useless compared to the other two versions.

Sorry, I just mentioned that the times I've seen it used, it tends to be more by griefers than genuine bounty hunters. Maybe that's because I'm a good boy?

@@Farrister na its ok, i use mine for bounty hunting its the only role i really do in sc. however the blue is used by pirates a lot not so much greifers, i mean you can pad ram and shoot a ship off the pad with any ship however, pirates although people always complain that there are no pirate mechanics in the game they fail to understand what piracy is, when in fact a pirate uses all game play loops and mechanics to to achieve their goal. the QED is one of those tools used to stop a player from running the same as it would be for law enforcement its used to extort a ransom out of a trader or miner "pay up or die" the problem is most traders will ignore the incoming comms call ignore the direct messages and then try and run getting themselves blown up in the process or self destruct and then calling it griefing when it just isn't. the word just gets way over used for minor things that just arnt griefing. iv spent alot of time learning my role as bounty hunter and that involves learning how my prey work although i bounty hunt in game iv made a few IRL friends with some of the pirate and bad guys in the SC and i can fully see the both sides of the argument when it come to grieifing

@@Farrister ye as a pvp bounty hunter we are up against a lot these guys are well organised and well equipped they have all the advantages we do and arnt bound by the in game laws giving them the advantage heres a group i have been following for a couple of weeks im yet to find a weak spot and collect at least one of their bounty's by the more i watch there videos the more i learn about their tactics kzread.info/dash/bejne/pIWatLqjp5qdnrQ.html

Unpopular opinion. I don't think pirates are greifers.

That's just the stock generators - you can upgrade the shield gen on the Black for fairly cheap
