This ship (and so many others in SC) would be immensely improved with cameras on the hull to provide a visual feed to the pilot to cover all those blind spots. On the Hammerhead, a camera for viewing your front would change so many gameplay things.

I think the dependency on glass windows and manned turrets versus remote turrets and virtual displays like the ones in the Prowler play a big part here. A virtual display with some kind of sensor overlay would make more sense on pretty much all the larger ships.

Yeah, they've acknowledged that, but have said it's basically technologically impossible with their engine. They've talked about having some sort of PiP terrain model or something for things like landing.

Unless ship sercurity is improved, i'm afraid that SC will be all about griefers running around stealing ships and either selling them back to the previous owners at discount or outright vendoring them.

Hope we will see that in the future - the Hammerhead has a big solid door to the bridge, if only it worked to lock!

Beautiful review! One of the biggest oversights, especially for a military ship is there is no armory or gun racks. If someone was brave enough to board the Hammerhead your crew is screwed. Compared to a civilian ship like the MSR that has a gun racks I think it's quite embarrassing!

I think the armory would be cool if it came out from under the floor of that vented section in between the two front turrets, that area feels like a lot of wasted space tbh, and there should be at least storage for a rifle at every turret

Absolutely great review Farrister. Having been one of the crew when you shot some of the footage here, I enjoyed being in the ship. It has great firepower and we did great against that Idris. I also remember the previously day where we had two of them against 2 Idris ships and we took a bit of time, but was able to take them out. Of course the support ships we had like the bombers and fighters were invaluable in the mission too. Working together as an Org was great. Take care, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.

One of the cool things about the Hammerhead is the ladders can be used entirely separately from the elevators. Might be useful if ship power becomes a more important gameplay mechanic. Say you’ve just survived a fight and the elevators need fixing. Those ladders will allow you to still move around inside the ship. It’s a very utilitarian military ship. Really sweet.

Nice reviews, I've been trying to find a decent ship tour/review for a while now. Your format is easy to follow and consistent. It's a class above the usual time wasting channels that either don't know the ship layout or use the review to ramble on about game mechanics that will probably change in the future anyway. Good review/overview, I didn't know it can have torps too. I got one as a loaner and rarely get chances to fly it but the events have helped with that and fun to wow new players during free fly weeks. The HH is a great 'big' ship a combat focused team could easily get in game without getting a full capital ship until maybe the Perseus arrives. With a crew of 8 a flight engineer/missile operator could allow the pilot to fly in 3rd person camera more often to overcome its visibility issues. The cargo platform I think can squeeze in 4 Dragonfly's so you could bring along ground transport for all 8 crew when planet side away from the ship if needed.

A tobii eye tracker really helps when piloting I can see where the enemy ship blips are and keep them in the arc of the currently occupied guns

I think the Hammerhead should have 3x S3 shields or maybe 1x S4. When you compare it to something like the Redeemer which also has 2x S3s and look at size difference between those two it makes sense size wise.

Cant wait to see the comparison between the Hammerhead and the A2 Hercules. They both seem similar in a lot of ways. Except the A2 is 20 meters shorter, has a smaller mass and may be able to maneuver slightly better.

Oh I think they'll end up being quite different - A2 I think will be more suited for ground combat. I may be wrong!

It is nice to see a fully crewed HH during the nine tails and Xeno Threat (when the missions aren’t bugged). Definitely need a crew or else it is just a sponge for enemy fire…..after it fires all its missiles.

I'm really enjoying your ship reviews. I do wish, however, that you'd provide a bit of context for ship size. Seeing the Hammerhead next to, say, a Carrack, a Freelancer, and an Arrow would be helpful. For smaller ships, even a single comparator would be useful. (You obviously provide combat video, but that doesn't always help with a sense of scale.)

@@AgentXRifle Origin 300 series are some great handling ships. In space and atmosphere (though they seem to be a bit thirsty in atmosphere when pushing them hard). If you’re just coming into the Verse, be prepared for bugs. If you can’t handle “issues” in a game then wait awhile. When in doubt, ask in global. Most of the time there’s someone willing to answer or lend a hand.

I remember i heard some Dev`s asked how many turrets you will be able to automate in the future on the hammerhead, they said with its stock computeres it would be able us AI on 4 turrets

The HH is one of the very few ships that you do not HAVE to upgrade to make it combat-worthy. Great ship to buy with AUEC for that reason. If you have the crew that is.

Yup, love that about the HH! Other than the QD...

To be clear the HH is one of the best ships in the game when it comes to what it does and in general. That being said it has more wasted space than nearly any other ship in the game. You could reduce its size by 20-30% if you made a more intelligent/condensed layout for the ship and that is before you remove the hole in the middle. I look forward to the day when they remodel its interior. Also I know it looks cool but that hole the middle is completely useless. Either give it a purpose or remove it. Personally I would be ok with a cargo bay, armory, parasite craft bay, drones, aux fuel tanks, aux munitions' storage, titan suite bay or literally anything that isn't a hole. I know people talk about a medbay and there has been huge drama over that in SC circles but medical is so still in its infancy. I think it early to decide that. Look at what capacitors did. They massively changed the game to a level that I don't think most players really comprehend yet, especially the large amount of people that don't currently play SC. Imagine with medical gameplay could do. Anyway back to the HH, its needs a interior rework almost as bad as the cutlass black , and im excited to see what they do with it with how far they have come with ship interiors since its release.

I REALLY like the Hammerhead. But that crew requirement... Probably better to hire one for cargo defense. In trying to decide which big warship to buy, it was a close decision. But I picked the Polaris. If game development continues a few more Years, Maybe I'll get a HH. but I really want a Carrier.

Just a quick thought but, maybe the captain of a HammerHead, is meant to not be a pilot... which has a pretty restrictive top view, instead the positioning of his cabin, next to a very capable, protected, and top 360 view of the battlefield to command the ship from. Kinda like a Tank. Seems like with a big slow ship it would be most appropriate this way

With the advent of the A2 now added to the game that is not only cheaper to buy than the hammer head, it has significantly more cargo, higher DPS, better maneuverability, and can drop devastating size 10 MOABs. There is no situation to where I would buy a hammer head over the A2. Sure the HH may very well be better in a swarm of arrows or glades, but there are far to many trade offs with the age old ship, hell the HH doesn’t even have a single gun rack for the 9 crew.

Oh I'm not sure I would agree with that - controversial! The Hammerhead has much better turret angles, not to mention significantly more firepower than the A2. And those bombs are highly situational, rather than general purpose for ship to ship combat. I do like the Hercules series, but to me I see the role as very distinct from the Hammerhead

And I'm really curious about what modularity might bring to this hull in the future. I do think, however, that it desperately needs a medical bay.

@@Farrister My opinion on the matter is that NPC Crew vs Human Crew, the Human crew will always be the best and deploy the highest performance. I'm sure CiG is already aware of this. Sure, you might solo in ths ship with an entire NPC Crew (this will most likely happen for every ship), but nothing compares to the output that a human crew can give, thus, making it always better played with humans, but not ruling out the possibility of playing solo with NPC's. Of course having the entire ship for yourself with NPC crew comes at a cost of performance. Modularity, on the other hand, and seeing what people think and the Q&A, might never exist for this ship, as the Hammerhead is a ship designed for a very specific role.

I wish instead of the missing space in the center that it had an expanded cargo bay

Anti-Fighter!? XD More like Anti-Everything, a single turret has the firepower equivalent of a constellation's main guns (if you go gimbaled)! Which is why it's a tonne of fun being one of its gunners, for me personally anyway.

Anytime someone ask for crew on this ship, I Jump at the opportunity. Id save up in game credits for it if it wasnt so expensive XD

@@Farrister To clarify, I really like the idea of hammerhead-shaped ships since I've played KOTOR but on this one, I'm not really satisfied with the placement of the bridge and the "flat" engines. A better placement for the bridge in my opinion would be where the gap in the Hull is. Maybe even retractable in combat and equipped with digital interfaces connected to cameras.

I don't know why it won't let up, but the interiors of most these ships bug me. There's too much room to the point of wondering how these things are supposed to be powered. The only ship I've seen so far with a true "engine room" was the Reclaimer (update: and the Carrack). Every other ship I've seen seems to think that simply having thrusters is enough. I know I'm nitpicking and there are probably numerous in game reasons for having so much interior space, but still. My suspension of disbelief can't be set aside.

why does it look so much like the among us ship map?💀

The Hammerhead is my favorite ship in appearance. Sadly there is too many design flaws that I can’t overlook. Why this big space in the middle ? There is no other ship with such wasted space. This could be use for bombs, cargo, a medical room… The corridors are way to big, the ship could be much smaller or better optimize. With all this wasted space in the corridors, the HH could have more cargo, gun racks, drop seats, anything ! The new ships (I’m looking at you Hercules) are very well designed, there is little wasted space and they are well weaponized. It’s almost shocking to see that the Hercules has so much firepower and sacrifice next to nothing (Hercules is slow, heavy armored, has cargo, weapons…) HH suffers from being one of the early ships flyable (like the Carrack my other favorite ship)

At the current moment I don't think the Hammerhead is worth the asking price of $725. Its a very powerful ship for sure but its priced too closely to the Polaris which is a far, far more capable ship for a similar crew complement. The polaris will be more expensive to run, but the capabilities it presents far outweighs the cost of just merely $25 more than the Hammerhead. If anyone is planning to get the ship for real money I don't think financially speaking it makes sense right now, maybe that will change when the Polaris inevitably goes up in price.

@@BRUH-fe8wz You CAN purchase them that way, or you can do tons of missions in game to save up the credits to buy one(a mission could pay a few tens of thousand of credits, and the ship itself is over ten million credits, maybe a couple tens of millions of credits not sure. So you can buy with real money or grind and pay with in game money you earn.

All the captains qauters are horribly designed on these ships lol
