@@mcbrite retaliator isn’t stealth and is much bulkier and slower, if the eclipse was the same size as the retaliator then you could use that argument, but given the size of the ship I would say it’s just as good as the retaliator that has 2 crew, if retaliator has 3+ crew, then yes it will outclass the 1 person ship

@@mcbrite I haven’t seen any problems with the torps on my eclipse, I only have problems with the IR missiles.

Minimum range for a lock with the Typhoon IX torpedo is 2.6km... with all stealth modules, the Eclipse's base (on startup) stealth allows it to sneak up to about 2.5km of an S2 sensor (Hammerhead as example) as long as they aren't pinging. The Typhoon IX has a 5 second lock time and will travel 2.6km in just over 2.6 seconds. This means if you are hunting a Hammerhead that isn't expecting a stealth bomber to attack it, you can get yourself to your Torpedo's minimum lock range, fire it and the Hammerhead will only have about 7.6 seconds to react before it dies. If the Hammerhead pings, you can be spotted from almost 6km at 32x ping so the Eclipse really is an ambush predator.

Cool calculations! This is why it's so important to fly escorts!

I have been flying an eclipse and I find that you have to pick the missions very carefully. It cannot go head to head with pretty much any combat ship but you basically have 2-3 confirmed kills. It is fun to run support with a friend where they engage and then you run a bombing run picking off targets before moving out of engagement distance to refill missiles at the closest resupply platform. The lack of cargo space and seating space really hurts this ships ability to do anything other then kill targets and stealthily escort allies.

Pretty spot on, but given the ship's simplicity there isn't much to hide. No pun intended. I have owned this ship for about a year. As impractical as it is I do have a lot of fun taking it out, but the lack of options for game play does mean I don't take it out as much as I did when I first got it. Eventually I will be upgrading it to something more practical like a Crucible or something else. But in the meantime it is fun to play stealth bomber, knowing that your torpedoes can take out most ships with a single volley while remaining undetected. My one complaint is the added effects to the windscreen to make them appear dirty, for immersion no doubt. Looking into dark space or anything with light coming from behind you is fine, but put the light at an angle to or in front of the windscreen and it shows. I find the amount of dirtiness and smudging to be very distracting and it triggers my OCD issues with impaired visuals. I submitted feedback to CGI regarding this, noting that for an expensive ship, with such a limited viewscreen, I think the windows would be kept a LOT cleaner than they made them. Hopefully this will be something they will remove or at least give us the ability to change based on personal preference in game.

Yeah I think the grubby screens seem to be part of an effort to make the ship more immersive, but if it was a real bomber they wouldn't let you take off without cleaning it!

I've seen a clip where it shows that, one S9 torpedo is enough to one-shot a carrick, and seeing that this bomber is designed to use S9 torpedoes, i say this is one ship you don't want to face with anything larger than a fighter (given it's piloted by an experienced player).

eventually when missions involve idris, perseus, hammerheads and even carracks having one of these in your fleet will be needed to soften up the bigger ships while your friends on fast movers or even big ships draw fire . I have one for this sole purpose.. i feel like having a bomber will also be usefull to soften up ground to air defenses on ground targets when bigger ground missions are available. using 3 torps to take out 3 turrets could be the difference between landing nearby or having to do an excursion through kilometss of empty land.

Definitely has potential to be interesting in the future

I own both an Eclipse and a Retaliator, while highly enjoying both for very different purposes. The Eclipse can handle herself in a fight even against groups larger than 3. I tend to use the torpedoes for larger targets like Connies while finishing off the rest with my trusty gatlings. It is remarkably capable of disengaging at will, with small ships having trouble to find you past 1500m. The Retaliator needs a crew to survive, but it is a more versatile ship. Offering double the torpedo load, a higher range and internal space which you can even use to store mission boxes, should you so desire. However I found that with the current price of torps, a reload might cost more than the mission made you, so use them wisely. I've paid up to 11k aUEC for reloading after a mission that only made me 10k.

But this is why you choose your missons. This ship should be used for ERT bounties and ERT groups. An ERT group is 3 HH which you can 1 shot each. 11K cost for a 87.5k reward done very quick. Ert bounties 25 K reward for a 3.5k torpedo.

Im a pretty new player that never really plays pve or pvp with his c1. That’s basically the reason why the eclipse rn is nr 1 on my wishlist. I see it excel in some different Szenarios 1: ranking up bounty hunter ranks. Fly in, shoot rocket, fly to next target. 3 times, reload, repeat. Fast and easy 2: hunting pirates. Sneak up, wait till they least expect it, boom 3: Solo ERT. Go in,blow up, 3 times, money 4: 3+ player ERT. Sneak in together with a C2, 1+ dps ships and your eclipse. Spot the hard to kill dps targets (hammerhead or so). Blow it up, fight the rest with low resistance. But I don’t know if it’s worth 300

i think where the eclipse is going to shine is in capital ship battles: a mixed squad of sabers and eclipses based on a kraken can creep undetected near a capital ship, unleash a barrage of size 9 missiles and then flee back in the shadows to prepare for another run

@@Farrister Usually 10,000+ UEC a player bounty; which, definitely covers rearming costs. It should be noted however, that a player can make more hunting pve targets, than pvp targets. This ship is for big game and pvp thrills, for sure!

hey,, nice vid bro! i’m subbed now. but i got a question,, i’m new to star citizen (like TODAY new) and my game gets stuck on an infinite load screen whenever i try to join the interstellar spaceport. (i think it’s called staton or something of the sort) Everything else works just fine but as soon as i try to join the regular universe it gets in an infinite loading menu that i can’t exit except for closing the game with task manager. could u help me out please?

Oh how unusual! My first suggestion is to just leave it - the load screen does sometimes take a long time, sometimes I'm waiting 2 minutes and I'm running the whole thing on an SSD. Outside of that, I'd suggest going to the Star Citizen website and logging an issue with the issue council on there

wish you didnt get the radar lock notifications atleast for stealth ships so that they could stalk you and keep the distance right so they don't pop up but they know where you are, missile lock i totally understand tho.

Feels like that would be how a stealth ship should fly to me but i'd probably still have to keep far enough away that they would have around 10 sec+ to react what with lock-on and missile travel times.

The eclipse hits fast and hard only taking out the biggest targets making ert missions it’s big money makers because it takes out a hammerhead with one torp after the costs of the weapons I’m making near 100k per bounty

@@Farrister I run the stock components other than a atlas quantum drive I also shut of my weapons before zooming into my target if it’s a player target I’ll also shut of my shields to get a lower em signature

It’s a shame there’s no internal space like a very small bad or ship inventory behind the seat. Definitely enough space to at least put a very small space with maybe a bed and a gun rack maybe

Greetings Rarrister. Your review of this ship is excellent as usual. Honestly speaking, I love the styling of it. I've always been a fan of the Stealth Bomber, and this ship is shaped similar. It is a ship killer with those torpedoes. Unfortunately, I don't own one. I wish I did. The stealth feature of the ship can work to your advantage in Pvp situations as the other player can't really see you coming until it's too late. By that time the torpedo is locked on and hot into it's flight to take them out. From what I understand, the airframe is weak, as those shielda don't stop much. The ship is good at what it is designed to do, and that is take out bigger ships, especially when working with multiple Eclipses in a group. Capitol ships are hard pressed to resist being taken out by them. Thanks for the review. Take care, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.

@@Farrister Indeed, it would be a great ship to use more often if they did this. Having 2 size 4s is the equivelant to the 4 size 2s, so it wouldnt be super op, and would take skill to use.

Its a nice video, I'm liking the summarization of it combiend with the simplicity. Its nice and relaxing but, I would like to adress the following (most of it comes out of experience so, you're pardoned, don't worry): 1-Do try to mention why certain armaments are there for. In this case, the gatling guns are only for self defense while you find a way out, and the size 9 torpedos are meant for targets bigger than a corvette-class. Making those statements can help you be more precise and informative. 2-Saying that the torpedos (torpedos, not missiles) "can knock out 35 Eclipse worth of shields" is a little...odd. A little hard to put into view, perhaps. Eclipses have stealth shields; very weak shields. I suggest paring it with a bigger target that gives a wider perspective. Say, a single Eclipse has enough firepower to take down a Hammerhead with stock shields. It allows then the audience to immediately assume that anything below that is a kill. 3-Regarding operating costs, you were right-ish. Yes, it doesn't compare to industrial ships which are meant to make money and its bussiness is death but, I think a strong point to keep in mind is that size 9 torpedos (specifically) will go very high in costs somewhere in the future. A little piece of information here: size 9 torpedos where actually worth 60,000 aUEC (or $60). Its not really that worth of a mention but, just an FYI. 4-Most importantly: DO NOT use the Eclipse as you showed it on the video. Seriously, what you did there is bound to get you killed instantly against a real player. You are not a fighter. You don't have the firepower, you don't have the agility, and you most certainly don't have the durability of one. You are a bomber and even more than that, a stealth bomber. Your mission is to come in undetected, find your target, drop your payload from a safe distance, and leave. In and out, no more no less.

I thought it was helpful to show the combat as I did, because whilst the missiles (currently in game as missiles rather than torpedo's :p ) are incredibly powerful, most of the combat missions force you to play as a dogfighter and have more than 3 targets, making the intended gameplay (hit and run) untenable

@@Farrister I disagree as this is the case with most ships but not the Eclipse. Your role is to take out the target of highest value (a bounty, for a example) and exit the area. Not stay and battle everyone out because you are not built that way. You are the stealthiest ship in the game for a reason. You may have seen it be a successful tactic against AI opponents but, only because their aim is very bad. If you try that against a real player, you'll die before your torpedo can have a lock.

@@djakeanthony5233 but what contracts are you taking in order to achieve that and make profit? The only contracts I can imagine that do that are player bounties. All of the other missions have too many targets

@@Farrister The only missions you can do with the Eclipse are bounty contracts (NPC or real, doesn't matter). Any of them are profitable as long as you go for the marked target. All other hostiles are irrelevant to your hunt and all other missions go beyond your capabilities. Simply put: You can lock on to your target from distances above 30,000 meters while your stealth ability allows you to get as close as 1,500 meters (lets say 2,000 meters just for playing it safe). All you have to do is find your bounty, lock, shoot, and jump to the next one. You have three torpedos so, you can take up to three bounties at a time before needing to rearm.

I like the look of this ship... BUT I can't see me getting one.... (renting one is another story tho) cuz it's a BOMBER just like the Prowler and the Valkyrie are dropships. There is no ACTUAL GAMEPLAY mechanic for it!

What do you mean there's no mechanic for it? The last 3 days I've been sitting in G.Hex staring at my bounty hunting list, jumping in my Eclipse the moment someone pops up on it. I find them, I lock on, they die - I get paid I kill 3 people before I go back to G.Hex to reload

There is a lot of gameplay for it, even more now in 3.11. A very light version of the stealth mechanics have been added which increased its stealth capacity by a lot and, the one true mechanic it depends on...is bounty hunting (or combat). That's been implemented for a while and it does it outstandingly well. Been using one since 2018 and its never left my hangar since.

@ I was doing lots of research on ships, like over a dozen hour of ship reviews and I was glad to see the Eclipse on the free fly event list. I've killed a handful of bounties the past few days and it has been awesome, I just hate the viewing angle and wingspan but those missiles are amazing Yes I'm a dirty missile slinging ape - I accept that

This would be a good ship for a griefer or PKer to use to spawn-camp somewhere and take out random ships for the lolz. Otherwise, I don't see that it has any purpose.

I think it's useful for attacking sub-capitals - take these out against Hammerheads for example, and those torpedoes are a real big threat!

Why did I can’t buy certain ships… I would love to pay a few hundred for the vanguard warden but she’s out of stock and I can’t farm the money to buy one because they are vanguards out there killing me in the middle of a quest with no cargo in my ship… I bet the game gets a grief fest in the future!
