When I first bought into Star Citizen, the Freelancer was my starter package, but I virtually ignored the ship in favor of other buys for a couple of years. I only really started flying my Freelancer regularly when the refining portion of mining came into the game recently. I found that in a given session of play, I'd make three mining trips with my Prospector, and that would net between 50 and 60 SCU worth of refined product the next day. So, my routine would be to load up the Freelancer and haul in the refined goods, then head back out to the station my Prospector was based at, make three mining runs, and there you go. Since then I've come to appreciate the Freelancer as a casual flyer a lot more, despite having no use for most of the seats and beds in it. And I'll say one thing about the Freelancer's view: In most cases, you'll learn that you're referencing HUD and instruments more than the narrow strip of glass, anyway. Once you've done that, it barely matters.

I like how in-universe the Freelancer is popular with haulers & explorers alike because of its durability, long range, and adaptability. And the design was clearly inspired by a certain iconic ship from a series starring Nathan Fillon.

I've been a Freelancer fan since the inception of the game. I own all four variants, and I have no plans to melt or CCU any of them. There might be ships that out perform them at their relative level, but not by much. The most consistent complaints are their looks and the cockpit visibility - the first being subjective aesthetics (I like the style), and the second being more annoyance than limitation, as the visibility doesn't prevent you from doing the mission for which the ships are intended.

Great video! Enjoy your style like I love MISC. The Freelancer was my first ship pledge in Star Citizen (although it was upgraded to the DUR). The narrow view is actually a boon when orienting towards places with blinding star light - just rotate and orient to block the light. I agree the Lancer is better choice for hauling, and I prefer it but must acknowledge the Cutty is far more flexible.

Kind of wish it had a little storage for weapons and armor.. just one locker at least for the captain... It's nice that you can lug 3 extra ppl but really it should be a 2 man ship... Get rid of two bunks and two chairs and you'd have more room for storage and maybe an extra auto turret

I think that's a good point and will only become more important in future patches

I wish ships were modular. I'd love to take out 2 of the beds and put in a other stuff, maybe a small "captain's quarters", basically a little room with a retractable bed, and small personal storage. Maybe a weapons rack or a small table for the crew to sit down, etc. Maybe move that engineering computer station to the docking room to free up space in the Living Quarters.

When my buddy showed me the cutty, I got excited enough to pledge. Flew both the cutlass black and the freelancer , didnt personally like the ship as much as it looks great on paper, so i got the freelacer, and outgrew in inabout 8 hours of gameplay, 3 days later I got the freelacer max , and just loooove it , ive upgraded all the components and rented 2 roc's and took the wife out for some golf cart mining fun, tonight she bought her freelander max ( with the storm blue paint) after renting the cutlass black, the screens block too much of the windows for her too. having to run to the back all the time sucks and now we do cargo runs together, visibility is in my modest opinion better than youd think from the video's.... doing some bounty hunting missions is pretty fun too for a "non combat" ship. i just love this lil ship, looking to get a prospecter next.... love my lancermax!!!!!!!!!!!

Very useful video. I started in SC 4 days ago and I just updated the Aegis Titan to the Freelancer. I'm glad to hear that it's a good ship for beginners. Looks like I made a good choice!

@@davidfrank04 it always depends on what you like to do in game. When I had the Freelancer (I did upgrade since), I did a bit of cargo deliveries, which is trying to find a mining outpost that has some valuable raw material and then delivering to a city. Unfortunately, that was a hit and miss. Many times, there was not enough sufficient material to make it worthwhile.

I own one myself. Been very happy with it.

Good video! As a driver of semitrucks I basicly hate the view from the drivers seat but it's such a good ship no matter what you like to do in the game. The Max version is a bit to sluggish to do other things then houling cargo.

Once the Hull series is introduced, the freelancer will most likely become a sort of RV ship, capable of doing your run of the mill exploration, delivery contracts, passenger taxi runs, and, of course, trading. It will be much less likely to be attacked by pirates, who will go after the Hull C (as stated in lore), and it will give you a reliable game experience when you want to take it easy. Unless you run into the devil cursor players. I've been rammed and blown up by them so often, and I have only been playing for a few days now.

I went with the Anvil Pisces, and added a Cutlass Black. I'm very happy with my choices. I will try to earn a Freelancer Max in game, for moving refined goods after mining them in a Mole or Prospector. This does look like a nice ship though.

Hmm, from what I've seen and experienced the Freelancer doesn't really compete with the Cutlass so much as be just plain better. Larger cargo, more amenities, more heavily armed (for some reason) and only a bit less manuverable. Even for pvp combat the Freelancer is better thanks to basically having four gimballed size 3's. So the only competitor in the same actual size and real money price class just... Isn't really a competitor at the moment. Just my opinion on that section, but the 'lancer is really a pretty good combat ship against anything it's own size and below, it struggles against larger ships like the Hammerhead, but... So does every other ship other than another Hammerhead.

I've actually been preparing my review this week for the Cutlass and I largely agree. I still think the Cutlass would be a better option for somebody who was more into combat, just for the way it fights, but I really like the Freelancer!

nah man - I have both and fighting in the Freelancer is really hard against small nippy ships...the Cutless however is an idiot proof fighter (its actually listed as a medium fighter on the retrieval console. Having said that I do use the Freelancer more.

Yeah, I think my favorite Freelancer is the MAXX. I should buy one! No, I shouldn't, I've spent enough!! But on 3rd thought...lol

Little bit disappointing is the fact that the Max is straight better then the Freelancer. Only drawback is the price. But i enjoy my free Freelancer.

Keep in mind the Max is not useful for combat anywhere near the level of the standard Freelancer. It might have nearly the cargo capacity of two Freelancers, but it handles like it's four Freelancers. It's for hauling. That's it.

@@obliteron I absolutely keep that in mind. Just thinking of it as a hauler. Currently same price versus a Taurus, it's so much better, for cargo.

I remember seeing a trailer for this ship. The two side turrets were shown firing at two different direction. I thought two of the four seats in the cockpit could control each side turret.

I have always thought that a Cutlass Red type vehicle fit better with MISC than Drake. So have been surprised that no medical variant of the Freelancer has come out.

For new Player: Every Ship below 1000$ ist a "Startership". Yes, that was meant ironically. The Freelancer is a normal 2 person ship in the medium freighter and medium fighter class. There is a good option to transport 4 people. Unlike the Cutty, the Freelancer focuses on the cargo job and is much more defensively equipped. Still, she has a very powerful armament, and given her ability to take out VLHR bounties with a good gunner, you might think she would be a universal starter ship. But she is not. She's the one ship for a freelancer with a good friend to lend a hand. And no $1000 ship for 15 strangers.

A little less so at the moment, just because cargo running isn't quite as profitable as it used to be. You need larger and larger ships to turn a profit.

So, when I was introducing a friend to Star Citizen, the ship I chose to bring her in was a Freelancer, despite my dislike of MISC ships. Great video.

Curious why you don't like MISC? Is it the styling, view (except Prospector or Reliant) , computer voice? I acknowledge much is subjective, so you are free to believe as you wish, just curious.

Great ship for med class do it alls Best starter tho? Eh pound for pound imho that’s the pisces. Would not want be a new player in freelancer trying combat for example but pisces will get you home.

I don't disagree (love the Pisces), but equally for a new player, it's a little bit more forgiving to be in a larger ship too.

I wouldn't base things on in-game price yet I mean a carrack is 600 dollars but in-game its 28 million or something like that and you can make millions in a day so I hope cigs put the in game prices in the billions for the more fancy ships

Yeah I noticed that as well - I fixed that my pressing R. Its the Gimble assist (you will see a dotted line around the cross hairs)

Fight a ROC? Yes. Fit a ROC? It's difficult because of the turret placement, Ferelancer MAX is a decent choice for that though

Absolutely NOT the best starter ship. It’s too specialized. And the back turret is extremely limited. It is the most range limited turret of the game.

Yeah there's only a factor of between 25 and 30 difference in pledge cost between a Javelin and any of the Freelancer variants. It's practically the same! :p

@@vonrosphe3098 I think it depends - whilst they are marketed as starter ships, you can't do as much compared to the Freelancer. And the price point of the Freelancer is still accessible, although expensive, to new backers

@@delc82 because it's new and shiny. Made in a different era of star citizen really. The Freelancer will probably get an update.

I was going to buy this game until I saw that it's just a pay-to-win game. $45 for a basic ship, fine. $125 for a ship that actually functions. Fuck that. I pitty the simps that buy into this rip-off experiment to hilariously play a game that's not even out of Alpha. I bought a Star Citizen car today and i paid for the premium package. I got the steering wheel today and maybe next year a few tires will be shipped. Nice!

I don't think it's that bad. Don't get me wrong, the progression is all about getting better ships for more choices. But even the smallest starter package can be used to earn those in games. My newest video on the Aurora hopefully shows that
