Typically, “wild and promiscuous” children are those that have been sexualized at an early age. Due to the confusion of that trauma, the grooming and the desire for acceptance and love, they act out in ways we label fast, wild, promiscuous. It’s not typical for a child who has been protected to “behave” in a promiscuous nature. Just like any other behaviors a child picks up, they are typically observed/experienced and then acted out.

I was very sad about that one time, and I have a very huge family, but never felt like I belonged, they hated me. One day I was crying at work, which was in our church, and a member came in and ask me what was wrong. I said, I’m just sad, my family hates me no matter what I try to do for them. You have to be so aware of any man around your child. I say that bc my first "grown up kiss was with my stepfather while I was watching Tom and Jerry cartoons he came in the room put his hand down my pyjamas top and kissed me. My parents said the same thing about Aretha dad being the father of her child. My parents were born 1920s and they been saying this since I was a child. My oldest sister was born in 48 and all my older siblings and relatives been saying this about her father. .

I really grew up liking her voice and confidence on stage. Whatever happened in her past, God Bless they souls. Every time I go places people stop in their tracks and say “you look like Aretha” I’ve heard it so much I already know what they are going to say. Be Blessed to her family!

I have wanted to do commentary on this issue for months! My godmother said the same thing when the movie "RESPECT" hit theaters. And she's not one to gossip. Aretha will always be remembered for her iconic voice and will definitely be respected as such. However, having a baby at 13 years old and never revealing the father is definitely SUSPICIOUS by itself! Her father should have never been accepting of his 13 year old having a kid. Her failed romances and turmoiled life was front story news in the "JET" Magazine, and other 'black/negro' journals. It was reported that her arm was broken by her significant other during a domestic disagreement (I was probably ten or eleven years old at the time and I remember that news account). No, we didn't have the internet or 'social media' back then, but we did have 'word of mouth', and people who knew the Franklin Family did talk. For years I grew up hearing that the "Reverend" Franklin had impregnated his daughter Aretha. The only time I heard of any stability in Aretha's life was when she was married to Glynn Turman. The Jennifer Hudson rendition of Aretha's life was horribly downplayed. What is the point of doing a Bio-Pic if the facts are withheld?

This is well-known in the Metro Detroit area. I knew an older woman who was a nurse at one of her sons homes. She is passed, but said this same story and that all of the medical staff were aware. Very sad. Sam Cooke said the churches in Detroit were beyond wild and loose.

Thank you for the info. I loved her music, especially “ My Dearest Darling”, when I was young. I would play the 45 over and over. I also loved, “At Last”. I definitely plan to purchase her autobiography. Hope I can find it.

It's definitely a sad situation.. I believe her music was an outlet for her fast life... The child suffered from depression over her mother's leaving and passing. She never got the proper help or healing and grown men PREYED on that, unfortunately. So sad and hurtful.

I always suspected that the public was given a palatable lie about C L Franklin’s home assault that left him in a coma. I wonder if some disgruntled husband, angered by C L’s dalliance with his wife, planned to kill him in retaliation. At time time Aretha wasn’t doing a lot of touring and was no longer living in the City of Detroit but in its suburbs. To pay for his in-home care, she ratcheted up her touring schedule. Given the information contained in this video, it is impossible to understand how Aretha was loyal to a father who robbed her of her childhood and education. I once heard Aretha give a radio interview to NPR’s Terry Gross. Aretha rarely gave interviews. I can understand why. Aretha created a fictional story of her life that she began to believe as true. She deleted from her memory the circumstances of her first two pregnancies. She deleted her alcoholism and treatment. The Franklin family pledged to conceal Aretha’s private demons of jealousy and deceit. Her public image would have been ruined. Times were different. People who knew the facts abhorred the notion if airing one’s dirty laundry. As a young person I harbored a secret fantasy of what it would be like to be rich and famous. But when their lives are examined, they paid a very high price for a glamorous life.

So many people get so in their feelings, when this is suggested. We all know this happened a lot back then. I have two cousins that are a product of this crime. They are the spitting image of their grandfather. They look nothing like their mother. They don't have any physical deformities. The people who should have been in their feelings are the ones that let this crime go on and didn't report their suspicions or known facts. The rest need to stop protecting HIM.
