Honestly let’s keep it 💯 here, there’s been a lot of talk that Aretha wasn’t the nicest person…. Yes she is a legendary singer and she paved the way for so many but at the same time that doesn’t mean she was the most likeable person, there’s been too many stories of her feuding with so many different artists like dionne, Natalie cole, patti Labelle, Luther vandross and even Whitney herself!

This is disrespectful ... I think making fun of ppls health conditions is a low low blow! Yal don’t know her medical history or issues and apparently they were serious because a year later she is no longer with us 😢

TheReal Malika This segment of their show was done a year ago. So no one really knew about any of her long term or even short term health conditions. This was all in fun and it was in response to Aretha's feud with Dionne Warwick and her explanation. So get out of your feelings. There's nothing disrespectful, if the person themselves, did not take offense and did not want the world to know about her ongoing health issues. She wanted to laugh to take her mind off of her troubles at Dionne's expense! Even writing that, just made me laugh! LOL!!!

We never know what another person is going through. Now we know that Ms. Franklin privately managed a host of health problems for many years. No one knows why she skipped the funeral, nor did she owe anyone any explanation. SHAME! 🤦🏾‍♀️

Their giggling asses! Aretha reported right away that 1) she was having problems with her feet and legs. 2) her doctor advised her not to travel and to stay off of her feet as much as possible. She was advised not to travel to attend and then stand to do her concert that evening. She also had a chair on stage. 3) she would have had to cancel her long scheduled concert to attend. 4) it would have cost her hundreds of thousands of dollars had she canceled. So very disappointed in Rickey Smiley, gossiping half truths.

ARETHA was sick when Whitney died, she was going to go to the funeral but she had to make that concert up, and it was to much for her to make the funeral and get back for her show that evening so she didn't go, she carried this sickness for years and never complain, and performed until she could no longer stand. What Shine is trying to say is, Dionne already knew Aretha was not in the church, so therefore, she wanted to make it known to the public of what she already knew beforehand and pretended that she did not know that Aretha was not there. They're saying that Dionne did that out of spite because she felt that Aretha should've been there regardless of her personal circumstances, and then, she said, that Aretha was her( Whitney's) godmother, which , Aretha herself, denies it because she said she barely knew Whitney, and in 1963, she did not have time to be anyone's godmother because that was earlier on in her career. Even though the words were nice in content, the true intentions were not sincere since Dionne, allegedly, knew Aretha was not in attendance. Hence; the article and feud. BTW, Aretha really was not Whitney's godmother. That was confirmed by Cissy Houston, herself.

Did you read what I'd wrote? I'd thought it was clear? Why wouldn't Dionne know in advance since Dionne's aunt is Cissy Houston and Whitney was her blood cousin? It would stand to be known since most families meet before the funeral services start and Cissy would've told Dionne beforehand while meeting at their home to gather to wait for the limos. I'm almost sure Dionne asked Cissy about Aretha's whereabouts before they even got into the limos as a family. That only stands to reason if they expected Aretha to sing at the services. Aretha was inferencing that Dionne already knew she was not attending and she definitely knew that Dionne lied about Whitney being her god-daughter. In other words, Dionne probably wanted to embarrass and humiliate Aretha, at that time. There are some people who do things out of being vindictive because they do not really care for that person. If Aretha could be petty, then why can't Dionne be petty as well?! As a matter of fact, where is Dionne right now? How come we haven't heard a thing from her at all at this point?

There is plenty of Diva-Dish in the Black Community among performing artists. Aretha Franklin was no saint, and neither is Dionne Warwick. Both women suffered from EXCESSIVE pride, self-imposed pride, and they demanded much from others. I have experience with both women, and both women had painful baggage attached to them. Even though Aretha smoked cigarettes most of her life, and had her struggles with alcohol and morbid obesity, Aretha was not a friend to illicit recreational drugs. I know Aretha had very strong opinions about crack/cocaine usage. OTOH, the Whitney clan placed Whitney so high on a pedestal, they couldn't see or acknowledge their own role in killing her. Whitney's drug addiction and death were a psychotic nightmare for that entire family. The highest of dramas, with no easy resolutions or solace. Of course Aretha wanted no part of that. These painful wounds will never go away. They run too deep, even in death.

She didn't attend because she had to make up her concert that night, and she said it was to much to go and sing and try to get back to perform that night, Aretha was in poor health then, she loved Whitney, that why she acknowledged her and the show that night.

I just an interview with Cissy Houston. She said Aretha was not Whitney's godmother...non in the sense like you take the baby to church with the godparent(s). Like your play cousin or sister.
