Honestly some of the best acting ever! Mrs. Slocum and Mr. Humphrys are amazingly well developed characters. Too bad shows aren't quite living up to the same comedic level these days! Thanks for putting this out there Kris

yeah - he was bald with a gargoyle face and looked 55. Trevor was older playing a much younger man, if anyone was out of place it was him. I mean - junior salesman real age late 30s, hmmm.

@@moaningpheromones Well rumbold looked like in his late 60's imo. I'm 57 and i look at least 10 years younger than i am and 25 years younger than rumbold. Hell, when i would stand next to him, people would think that he could be my dad! But it seems that every generation looks younger than the previos one these day's and that is thanks to better food, work conditions and better healthcare.

Yes he was. If you think about it if you worked in a store like that it wouldn't be a very secure job if the owner was in his 80s. He died your job would end.

Season 8 episode 5 is great if you like seeing mr. Humphries as his mum. "Heir Apparent"
This is the best episode ! I watched this again n again n again.
This episode is probably the only one in which Mr. Lucas is in total command, who is otherwise looked down upon by some colleagues as some kind of a pariah, who never belongs to the inner circle. Mrs. Slocombe is the feminist par excellence at a time when feminism was not political.
I love: This is your life Rachel Yiddle (Mrs. Slocomb).
(8:40) Don't be greedy Ms. Brahms. Mrs Slocombe gave you a gift. Accept it graciously...!!! (lol)

That is one of the best parts of are you being served is them eating in the canteen.
It's nice to know their first names. I absolutely love this show and its cast of characters. They play off each other to humorous perfection.

harold bennet was BRILLIANT!
Arthur Brough still funny watching him suck that soup up with those straws. I've seen this innumerable times ... mans been dead thirty plus years .. . and is still funnier than most comedians still alive.
I loved that their origins were in no way related to Mr Grace but there is no limit to Mr Lucas' imagination. That stretch was really funny and well put together
I spilt my drink twice while watching this episode! 😂🤣😂

The mention of Danny LaRue is hilarious, because he seemingly appeared as a guest in every other episode of the British version of "This Is Your Life".
The cast will be greatly missed, especially Wendy Richard (Miss Shirley Brahms).

Have you seen the one where they think that Mr Humphreys is Old Mr. Grace's kid? It's good! I'll try to figure out what episode it is and I'll edit my comment so you can find it easier if you've never seen it. Edit- S8E5 Heir Apparent. You might be able to find it on KZread, but I'm pretty sure they have it over on Dailymotion if it isn't on KZread. I say that because I know I've seen it within the last year, and I don't have access to any other platforms that it would be on.

I bet i'll find a better copy of it at Dailymotion . recently i've been engrossed with two British drama series . One is "The Secret War" circa late 1970s . It's about the Belgian resistance to the nazis and getting british fighter and bomber pilots who crashed and survived in nazi occupied Belgium and France back to the UK during ww2 . The other is called Heartbeat circa 1990s ? . I am up to season 7 . Its starts out as a london bobby(regular police officer) and his wife who is a medical doctor moving and doing there professions in a small Yorkshire Town. its setting is the mid 1960s, and often they use hit pop and rock songs for background music from that era. i remember them from childhood ! cheers !

A significant thing in all the episodes that strikes one again & again is the perfect timing of the actors when delivering their lines_ something without which great comedy can' t be achieved.

Yes me too. I grew up with rabbit ears instead of cable and I would make special efforts to tune in PBS when I would hear those register chimes as I turned the dial. Even today I’m laughing my butt off harder than I ever have with our sitcom options

I disagree totally. Slocombe's affectations to someone above her class makes her a perfect target for jibes. Who else could score the right effect but Lucas? Go back to the first couple of episodes and you'll see who has a thing for who!

19:43 About this time , mid to late 1970s or maybe it was early 1980s, Dannon yogurt did a commercial they claimed was in some "mountain Russian village " where people allegedly "live to be a 130 years old" . they gave the Dannon yogurts to these purported to be 130 year olds and older and they said they all loved Dannon yogurt . if memory serves me one or two or three said they were 160 or so years old . lol to even the supposed 130 year olds . the reader of this post will have to research this one for him or her self . i'm too knackered to be of complete service at this time .

at least one individual portion sized container of Dannon yogurt at that time was about 12 ounces for about 50 cents, tall as a can of beer and wider at the top . today you get a 4 or 5 ounce container for a dollar if you're lucky .

This is one of my only complaints of this show. A lot of inconsistencies. Also anytime someone left the show there was never any explanation of where they went. Except for Mr. Tebbs.
How can they all take lunch at the same time? Do they close the entire department down??? And why do they all sit on the same side of the table like The Last Supper?!!! 😁

good on you for making this show available to watch, its hard to find the full series in DVD, its one of the shows of the era where the dirty mind of the audience had to fill in the blanks, where as these days, comedy is basically, the F word and all of the others of same nature. writers these days can't write comedy without using direct references to the obvious.

If you like to see John Inman performing on the stage, here he is at the old time English Music Hall (first and third spots on the bill): @_eBU Incidentally, people who like the feel good factor of these English programmes will also generally appreciate the BBC "Good Old Days" old time music hall series in which he appears occasionally here. Many famous actors and performers can be seen in these programmes and it's always good, clean, happy stuff (The equivalent of Vaudeville in the USA). Best evening entertainment there is in my view, compared to today's tv rubbish! Enjoy!
