Hi Eileen, can you do a video on symbols of statuses and capitalism. poors are looked down upon/disrespected imo symbols of statuses, that companies make(iphone, mercedes etc) define/categorise people with a physical mark, who is poor who is not based on these symbols. Like we can physically see who is poor. So symbols of statuses, since they tell us poor person says:person X is different from us,person X is rich,so he/she wants me to respect him/her" Rich person:"person X is poor I shudnt respect him/her" these visible markers divide society.

My only critique is that Kirk does not really articulate clearly. I am listening to the podcast without subtitles and I really struggle when he conflates 2-3 characters into a single mumbling sound. No doubt we language learners should learn to understand people who mumble, such a toothless elderly, drunkards, and half-asleep partners. However, a podcast guest who mumbles is not the ideal guest. I suggest asking him to articulate more clearly. Thanks, and happy learning to everybody 😊

On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link "custom". Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time. *Smartphones:* open the video and go to the upper right of the video's screen. You will see 3 dots. Click on them and you will see the link to open the "playback speed" controls. Click on this link and you will be able to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 25% at a time. Also America has a similar problem that is mentioned. Woman had standards for men because they weren't able to do much or provide for themselves but now they're able to do tha t, which is a great thing. However one negative that came out of it is that they just have higher expectations for men.

This seems like a light-hearted topic but it actually is a very major social issue that can affect all aspects of human society and life. Let's break it down. First we analyse what is required for a man to like a woman. Not much. A man likes a woman for her youth and beauty which is god-given. The woman does not need to work and earn those things. Now on the other hand, a woman needs to at least admire a man in order to like a man. Now how does a man accomplish that? By being confident. But how does a man be confident? By beating other men who will challenge him in competition and coming out as the winner which will solidify his confidence in himself. Either that or he at least be much more accomplished than the woman he is trying to get with so that the woman is "below" him so she admires him as he is "better" than her in most aspects. In the past, society restricted women from climbing the social status ladder and this made most women unaccomplished and therefore, most men would by default be able to be "better" than most women if he does an honest day of work in some trade or skill. That's why most men and women were able to get married, have a family and the men were motivated to work, follow the law and contribute to society as he now has a family that depends on him. But today, women are able to do everything that a man is able to do and furthermore, she also can make use of her sexual appeal to climb the social status ladder. Therefore, most women are now easily at the same level or "better" than most men. Most women therefore find it hard to admire and respect a man. Therefore as a result, only the top percentile of men truly gets the desire of like 80% of the women. Marriage rates go down. Divorce rates go up. Most men when they have no families of their own, will have no motivation to follow the law, no motivation to do productive things for society, rise in male suicide as they feel worthless and useless, rise in men who are opportunistic and predatory since they see no hope in doing things the "traditionally proper" way. What ends up happening is the top 20% of men get with most of the women like a rotation roster and he probably will never commit to one girl and most men become incels. The traditional family unit breaks down. When this happens, birth rates go down, the young become unable to support the pension of the old, society will break down slowly but surely.

One thing is that a man knows how to defend himself and other, to go and beat other to feel confidence. That kind of man, I wouldn't want, he's emotionally and mentally weak. He would have to develop discipline and other kind of values to adquire confidance in other way. Where did you get your facts? For what I know, we woman (lot of us) admire a man that is hardworking, visionary, respectful, affectionate, know how to manage his money and be there for the woman to support her in different ways. We have to feel attraction toward him, too. I understand that for lot of men they seek youth and beauty, and I'm not dismissing those cualities, but those tend to wane with time, and what makes a relationship work is two people that join together with the cualities I mentioned, and preferible that have the same spiritual believes and both work for the wellbeing of the family. But what happened with lot of man? They abuse their wives and children (emotionally, verbally, sexually, physically), they're are irresponsable, inmature, cheat on her, etc. and they start to show that behavior after they get married. But, it doesnt matter if he beat others (which is totally wrong) to feel confidance, I assure you in lot of case, his woman will stop to admire and love him because the way he treats her.

I think birth rates have to do with Today Men and women both are racing to achieve "money, power, fame", specially how symbols of statuses define or mark ppl as poor and rich thus further encouraging ppl to race for "money, power, fame". But child birth, taking care of children takes up a lot of time, energy making it hard for women who want "money, fame, power",thus women stay child free.

Sounds like an advert for Darwinism and Capitalism in one. . For some women yeah, but underestimating a woman's intellect and seeing her as having an attraction switch that can be flicked by the biggest stupid caveman doesn't sound quite accurate. It also completely dispenses with individual differences.

I really hate when someone strings a person along, but I also think it's sad when someone knows they're being played and still choose to pursue a dead end. And I don't know about in Chinese culture, but here in the US accepting gifts from someone you don't have feelings for can be dangerous. Especially if they're obsessed with you. 😫 #EDIT Oh my gosh!! That's terrible! 😢 That's exactly what I meant by dangerous. I knew people who had stalkers as a result of leading someone on. Set boundaries, make it clear you're not into them and DO NOT accept gifts.

Women are never attracted to guys just because the guy really likes them. That only happens in movies and scriptwriters don't know what they're talking about.

Yes but a person cannot be a teenager forever, so this "teenage" feeling must be changed by the time someone is an adult. If someone is acting like a "simp," it means they are not emotionally mature enough to see that they are not being taken seriously by the women (or men) that they are pursuing.

Interesting. I learnt some English today haha I'd heard the word Simp before but thought wth does that mean. I knew it was connected to relationship s between men and women but not how. So, this morning I've had both an English & Chinese lesson in 1 - Cheers. Other thing tho - To be fair to men - generally speaking baldness can't be helped. The other aspects of physical attraction can be such as weight, dress, maybe teeth whitening etc. So, I think it's pretty unfair for a woman to rate a guy on baldness. As long as he shaves his head like say, Jason Statham, he can still look quite cool. It's the same thing really if a woman doesn't have long legs are large breasts - again , she can't help those things so it would be wrong for a man to rate a woman on such things. Attraction sure- that's instinctive but to value match yourself against your date based on genetic predisposition a in wrong on so many levels. As for simping I think I might have done a bit of that in my teens but as soon as I reached about 20 I turned into the Traditional bad boy character. Strangely, this did actually attract more women to me. Human Psychology is pretty strange right as are the various societies , cultures, and governments that push us around.

Thanks, and happy learning to everybody 😊

as usual, your subjects are interesting. yes, we have a problem here where women take advantage of men. hopefully, these men have friends who help them get out of this simp attitude. it would also be helpful if women just didn't accept this attitude.

Wow, I feel like there’s a lot of woman bashing going on in China right now. Even in this interview there seems to be an overarching animosity towards women in general. I’ve seen lots of interviews where women have said they have no interest in pursuing relationships because their too exhausted from work and don’t want to think of having to take care of a family or a boyfriend, and they don’t need one to take care of them so why would they sacrifice their independence. But the men seem to feel entitled to pursue them anyways. If the men won’t leave them alone, then maybe they’re the bigger part of the problem. China has created this problem first with the one child policy, the laser focus on education to the detriment of relationship building and then with the work culture, don’t paint all women with the same brush and put the blame on all women for the men’s low EQ and women’s overall life and work situations.

@Personbuxth so I guess ONLY the men have rights? 🙄 How about they both do? If women want to be left alone, leave them alone, if men want to be left alone, leave them alone.

Women should be free to do whatever they want, and men to reject relationships with them too. 🤷‍♂️ The key is not to complain about everything and say the world is against you. Actions have consequences
