AR9 Episode 3: EndoMags!

Went from a Glock mag compatible lower to a standard AR15 lower and I’m using EndoMags by MEAN Arms. Will they work?...

9mm endomag kicks butt. Love the versatility of being able to switch between calibers, and still maintain the same 556 feel/ muscle memory as far as mag and rifle controls.

I purchased the set of 3 Endomags, installed them and didn’t need to do anything else it just worked. I It’s been shooting with 100% reliability, 150 rounds through each of the 3 mags. Put on my S&W M&P AR-15 lower and purchased the BLEM PSA 4" 9MM 6" LIGHTWEIGHT M-LOK RAILED UPPER - WITH BCG & CH. Do it.

Well, going to give you an update on my Endomags. After a little over a year, maybe a year and half. Probably 3k rounds suppressed through 2 endomags. Yesterday the rounds stopped coming to the top, bolt over rides, failure to chamber. I came home pulled those 2 mags apart and the springs were broke in 4 or 5 places. They were very rusted. To be fair I never cleaned or oiled them. I had another endo that only had 100 or so rounds through it. It was fine but, rusty. I cleaned and oiled it and swapped out one of the broken springs for a pmag spring. I oiled it too. Going forward I am going to break them down and oil them. I guess the gas blow back from the suppressor is fairly corrosive.

Thank you for sharing that. I myself can’t afford 3K of 9mm on a single magazine so that information is welcome. Good stuff. I had my doubts on longevity but at least you’ve given insight on how to prevent or at least delay failures.

@Humble Vet What I thought would be the failure point was the plastic ejector but, they still look like new. I can't afford 3k rounds for just testing either. I use 9mm to shoot hogs with because it is the cheapest thing you can shoot that will do the job. Don't get me wrong it is not ideal but, it beats a sharp stick. Also, I use 9mm rather than running through my other AR15 calibers for practice. Not that I practice much. I probably burn 100 rounds a week between, practice, Plinking and hogs. Some nights I will go through 100 rounds on a hog hunt. Hopefully the pmag spring will work. I will report back.

Appreciate the info on the endomag. Keep in my u can eject a round with the magazine in by locking the bolt to the rear. You do not have to and should not reach into the upper with your finger to eject the round and you do not have to empty the mag to clear the chamber... just lock the bolt back and do NOT chamber another round, then drop the mag and you have a clear chamber. It’s a work-a-round but it works! God Bless you brother and God Bless America!!!

@@Rio..o7.. I decided to go with the Stern defense adapter because I saw that the ejector for the Endomag is actually on the magazine. That could lead to a problem if you have to remove the mag while a round is still in the chamber. It's too difficult to deal with but for me, it was a deal breaker. My only problem now is that my Foxtrot Mike upper wasn't cut correctly from the factory, therefore my 9mm conversion adapter won't fit. I have to send it in to be re cut.

@@HumbleVet so far I've got three PCC's all of which use the 308 spring only because I've noticed that if you don't have a ramped barrel the lighter pressure can cause feeding issues. If the rifle spring works for you then keep running it but the harder spring keeps that rearward slam to a minimum and my gun stays flatter which helps with rapid transitions. Side note I absolutely love the armaspec SRS and they have it for PCC now I'm gonna try it out but I have to purchase a compatible bolt I do have the srs on my Grendel ar-15 and creedmoor AR-10 and it works great.

It really depends on the lower. Most new 9mm dedicated lowers have a bolt catch. It is a serious point of failure on 9mm lowers. Older versions didn’t even have them.
