Google Glass was an infinitely better form factor for "AR" (augmented reality). I don't know why all these companies are using VR (enveloping your entire field of view) form factors for AR. It's like they don't care about everyone around you, which is the key difference between VR and AR.

Totally agree, but this level of image quality and eye tracking is, at least for now, impossible with simple AR. If you've ever tried to use a projector to watch a movie during the day you'll know why - you have to block the light out in order for things to look this bright and sharp.

During the ecosystem section 12:31, i think one of the things that can be done to mitigate having to look at objects while using the virtual display for the Mac, is for there to be a "turn off eye tracking" option. Since all the controls (Keyboard and mouse) still works, being able to turn off eye tracking while working in passthrough mode should be an option for the user.

Fun fact... "Foveated Rendering" was also used in the Royal Air Force's Harrier GR3 Flight Simulator back in the late 1980s, the pilot wore a special helmet that tracked the movement of the eyes so that the projection on to the screen only had to render in detail where the pilot was looking as of course back then computing power, especially for video rendering, was extremely limited.

I think it’s funny people neg the AVP for isolating individuals from the experience of watching TV/movies with their family. When I was a kid my parents thought it was horrific that other people considered watching TV a family activity instead of thoughtful conversation and actually doing activities together. Now staring at a screen with your kids is considered quality time as long as you’re together in meat world.

Please consider demonstrating this feature if it exists on the Apple Vision Pro. On iMac and MacBook, the Zoom feature I use can be turned on as follows: Settings >> Accessibility >> Zoom >> Toggle On "Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom" >> Leave "Modifier key for scroll gesture" set to the default "Control" key >> Set Zoom style to "Full Screen". Your comment is on point. You are just describing how marketing and sales works. Most products have a very specific target. This is why we don't buy everything we see in front of us (also we couldn't afford to ahah) This VR/AR headset looks awesome but I also wouldn't use nor buy. still not for me, and the lack of features and apps that make sense for me is the biggest reason why I wouldn't want to spend so much money on it. That being said, the fact that Apple entered this new market it's definitely exciting for VR aficionados. That F1 AR feature is probably a small drop of a huge ocean that is sport entertainment. I can see millions of people watching Soccer, American Football and other famous sports with this useful feature.

It's just a concept and it's not that cool. You could do that right now, by looking at the tack on your phone. But you don't do that, why? Because it's unnecessary. You don't need a bulky headset to look at the locations of cars on a track. Ever played mario kart? They have all that info in a corner, you don't even need a second display for it, they could just have it like that on the TV.

@@Stevo.100 But watching it LIVE via VR in 2-3D look would feel like you are in the game. The fact that there are lights showing, can move your head over it, it is big in front of you, and who knows?!! maybe you can invite friends over to watch it with you if they have the Vision Pro!!! I mean, everyone sees it differently. I understand what you mean, but the way you explain it, is not how I would feel it if I had the Vision Pro. There will be more joy to me and I guess that's why so many people are excited to see it. Plus on TV, they are not as big and realistic as how they want it to be on the vision PRO. In this video, the way they display it, looks more realistic. It is like you are a giant looking into a stadium or something. And maybe some people would not want to watch the real race but they only want to see the track. I think that bringing this feature would be very awesome.

That's a different thing, the stuff around glasses is still an image, it's just blurrier. FOV in VR goggles is just darkness, it's a huge thing in VR. Some really expensive goggles (like, double or triple the vision pro's price) have incredible field of view that almost covers all of your vision, but in general bigger is better, and it makes a world of difference. For a first gen it's ok that they focus on other things though.

if the FOV is worse than quest 3, it's basically like wearing a toilet paper roll in front of your eyes. You cannot talk about the FOV if you haven't at least tried some other VR headsets. I didn't upgrade my quest 2 to quest 3 cuz the FOV change is so small, if apple vision pro is worse than that, it's not good.

You would obviously need a very complex and extensive app built specifically for that. An app that does not exist and won't exist for a very long time. There are some engineering apps used on hololense/2, but they are commercial-spec for extremely specific learning environments. Overall, you are thinking of more of a science fiction device, that may exist in a decade or so. But I highly doubt it with personal vehicles heading fast into not being able to be modded or repaired by an owner. AR/XR-overlay tech is many years away from being viable in a consumer environment.

Granted, if Apple wanted to, they could give a range of FOV values, I'm sure they've done considerable testing and have a rough bell curve sort of distribution mapped out (extremes, typical). Also, unless the edges of the display are otherwise cut off, gaining FOV means losing some PPD, which for some things is a fine trade-off, but may be a bummer if you're trying to quickly skim a lot of small text, or using apps with small UI elements, etc. (which would most likely occur when viewing a macOS screen) Disclaimer, haven't seen one yet myself.
