Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse To Remove Yellow From Hair, Clarify, Volumize and Smooth Hair
I gave the Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse a try and was surprised by the results. I had been resisting trying Apple Cider Vinegar on my hair because I was so afraid it was going to stain my hair. After seeing pictures on Pinterest of our Silver sisters who have used this rinse to remove yellow from their hair, I decided to give it a try on my gray hair. In this video, I share my thoughts about Apple Cider Vinegar, benefits, and how I mix and use the rinse-I normally don't wear a shirt when I shower but felt it was necessary for this video. haha.

Purple shampoo and masks are damaging to my hair. These products dry my hair out and cause a large amount of hair fall out. I have curly wavy hair and it tends to frizz from purple products. I saw this video and decided to give it a try. I have more salt and pepper hair and want my silver to really stand out. After one rinse I saw a significant improvement! I also followed the directions provided (leave on for two minutes). My hair came out shiny manageable, and the curls look fantastic with no frizz. Thank you so much for posting this video.
Thanks for posting this I will try this weekend
Thanks for the idea. I’m going to try it this weekend. Love your channel. Keep the suggestions coming!

It's recommended to spray the vinegar on while your conditioner is on your hair, then rinse all out.

Hi Mack! It is amazing stuff. I wish I had tried this sooner.
I used to use apple cider vinegar in my hair when I first started transitioning to Gray! It was just one of those natural remedies used.

I wish I had tried it years ago but the color always scared me - I thought it would stain my hair but turns out it didn’t.
I'm going to try this for sure. OH YEAH! Here's another tip for using vinegar (white or apple cider) use it in place of fabric softener. It too will smell until the clothes are dry but it removes residues from the detergent and softens the clothing as well as brightening them. I had to do this due to sensitive skin and breakouts of rash from using softeners.
Thank you!
I'm 64, and I have been relying on purple brightening shampoo to make the most of my totally gray, silver hair. Until my son proved to me that these products are unhealthy and contain "endocrine disrupting" ingredients, I trusted that that these things we can get as shampoo in a grocery store are ok. Hence, my search for something natural on KZread. Now I've tried the ACV rinse once. So far, so good. Hoping for good results and wishing everybody the best, stay healthy and favor the natural solutions!

My friend told me about ACV for blondes. My hair is SO damaged from color, I need product to detangle when wet but not with AVC. It is a miraculous detangler & my hair is fuller & shiny after 1 application. I used a lot more than 2 tablespoons but will follow your process next time. Thank you!

Thank you for watching and I hope this ACV recipe helped!
I did this last night as a last stitch effort to strip semi permanent dye stain from my white hair and I actually noticed a difference! I followed with l'oreal Le gloss toner in silver white for 20 mins to hide any remaining yellow and condition my hair. I'm gonna do the avc rinse once a week until my white is back to normal.

Hi Carol! Great Question!!!!! I am speaking from my own experience but I think the peroxide treatment works better to get rid of hard to remove yellow/staining. If you're trying to get rid of yellow, that's the one to use, imo. BUT the ACV rinse has so many great benefits that the peroxide treatment doesn't offer so if you are trying to brighten dull hair or hair that is slightly yellow, or PREVENT yellowing/staining along with all the benefits I talked about in the video (clarify, tame frizz/smooth hair, add shine and volume, etc.), this would be the treatment to use.

Hello Jessica, I believe that I have relatively thick, shoulder length hair for being a senior. When it first grew out the white silvery color was stunning but now after about a year it has gotten darker with some black or dark brown strands and not as white. Wonder why the dark strands seem to be taking over. I’m trying your suggestions and see what happens but Please let me know if I should increase the ACV recipe or do you think this will be enough of a mixture? I know that I’m to let it sit on the hair for the two or three minutes but should I increase the time with my thickness? I will add the conditioner as you said to the bottom portion. I think that is correct but which conditioner would you recommend? Please add the link and also the link for the shower head you recommended. Wish I could upload some photos for you to see. Thanks for this video and I am now a subscriber.

Hi Nincaru! Thank you so much for subscribing!Please do not increase the amount of ACV-too much apple cider vinegar could burn your scalp and hair. You can leave the ACV rinse for up to 5 minutes. The conditioner that I am using now is Pantene's Miracle Moisture boost with Rose Water Sulfate Free Conditioner. They sell it at Walmart or you can find it on Amazon (this is my amazon Affiliate link): amzn.to/4403gkx and the Shower head water filter I love is the PureAction Showerhead (amazon Affiliate link): amzn.to/49QNwSt As for your hair turning darker, there are so many reasons that could be happening (such as a medical condition, changes in hormone levels,stress, nutritional deficiencies, etc.). The one I have experience with (this happened to a family member) is it could be a nutritional deficiency which stops melanin from being produced. Once my family member changed her diet and took supplements prescribed by her Dr., most of her gray hair regained its color again.
How many applications did it take to remove the yellow rusty colour?
I tried this today and it looks like it worked. I mixed two cups and put it in a glass bottle. The large pitcher looked unwieldy. You don't need that much.

Can a person use regular distilled vinegar or it has to be Apple cider vinegar?

Hello Sabin Bacha. Yes, you can use ACV in place of your shampoo. Just make sure to dilute it and use only once a week.
@katharina1788
Жыл бұрын
Sabih bacha try using rye flour 'shampoo'. It's basically rye flour and water. Using that I got rid of my itchy scalp and have softer hair than ever. You need to do a baking soda rinse once to get rid of any silicone build up from shampoos and conditioners before starting with it. (This is only needed ONCE. Google about this whole method regarding getting rid of silicone build up and using rye flour as shampoo.) And it might take a bit of time until your hair adjusts to the new treatment/method. As not as much oil gets removed (no more daily washes, you should be able to only wash your hair every 3-4 days once your hair is accustomed to the new method), the scalp does not need to produce so much oil anymore. But that takes a bit of time to adjust. I'm washing my hair since many years with organic rye flour. Yes, regular rye flour - the one one can bake bread with. Never use wheat or any other flour. Although rice flour would work too, but it's a nuisance to wash out. Although the end result is amazing. Never had such soft hair. But using rye flour makes the hair nice soft too. I haven't used shampoo for many many years. And not having to wash my hair eves day is a huge benefit as well. They recommend wholegrain rye flour, but I prefer the sifted version (in Austria it's called type 960). It works for me and it is easier to wash out. Experiment with it. When I lived in the US, I couldn't find sifted rye flour. You could sift it yourself to get the coarser parts removed. A friend of mine now started washing with rye flour too and she is so happy about it. All the best for you! PS: An ACV rinse is not necessary after washing with rye flour. But if your water is very hard you do benefit from it. And of course in order to get rid of the yellow. You don't need to rinse the ACV rinse out. Rinse and dry your hair as usual. The smell is gone quickly.

Does it work on brunettes who are graying?
@GrayHairTransitionandBeyond

Yes it does. I have a lot of dark brown hair under the white (most of it is near the nape of my neck) and it whitens my white hair and not the dark hair. Please make sure it’s the 3% peroxide-anything stronger could lighten your dark hair along with damaging your hair and scalp.

Hello Patricia! Yes, you can use white vinegar. The reason I like to use Apple Cider Vinegar is because it has more vitamins and nutrients which is very nourishing for your hair while white vinegar doesn't provide that extra benefit. White vinegar is also a lot more harsh than apple cider vinegar so you will need to properly dilute it with more water (than what is used to dilute the acv).

Unfiltered raw apple cider vinegar such as from Bragg is best. It's totally different than white vinegar. It has more beneficial stuff in it.
I apply my mix using a root comb from eBay or Amazon comb it from the roots down the hair shaft. Less wasteful than in a jug.

Hi! I have dark brown hair underneath all the white and the apple cider vinegar rinse has never changed the color. I have never used it on color treated hair so can't say if it would lighten it up or not.
This method didn't pull the yellow out of my all gray hair AT ALL. I think it depends on how the yellow got there to begin with. I think my yellow is caused by water deposits in our local water. Great :( Thanks for the easy tip though.... just wish it worked for me!

I also have brassiness on my silver/white hair which I deduced was from the water round here…a filter on the shower head helped a great deal. I also do not use any heat appliances on my hair, ie, curling iron, flat iron, and only medium heat when blow drying. A single pass with a heat appliance will show on this white hair. I love my hair color but even with all my efforts I still have some yellowing…at this point I look for hair dyes or toners as close to my color as I can find to cover the remaining yellow/brassiness. Clairol Silk and Silver did the job very well but of course that product sadly was discontinued. Fortunately the hair color industry has figured out that many of us love our silver and look for products to care for rather than cover it. Also I never use the word gray opting instead to use the word silver…that was my first rule!

Hi Lindalu, sorry it didn't work for your hair. If the staining is really bad, it may take a few tries. Do you protect your hair from the sun when you go outside? If your hair has been burned by the sun or burned by a hair appliance, nothing will be able to removed that. The only thing you can do,in that case, is cut it off or let it grow out then cut it, sadly..
