Appion Speed-Y vs T-Fitting

The Appion Speed-Y replaces a manifold during recovery and maximizes the hose capacity of any vacuum pump. This video demonstrates the difference between the Speed-Y and a traditional T fitting. The Appion Speed-Y is made from aircraft-grade aluminum which allows for a large internal diameter. This, along with the Y angle, allows for smooth flow paths which reduces flow restrictions. You can find the Speed-Ys at your preferred local distributor either individually or featured in the SpeedKit-V & SpeedKit-R

Why can’t I find a Speed Y all 1/2” all 3 ways??? I know I’ve seen them at the part houses but online none at all. Or y’all don’t make 1/2” all the way???

would it be as efficient to use the speed y on the end of the valve core removal tool and run both hoses to the pump? or is two individual valve core tools with one dedicated hose better?

I would like to use a Y with a valve for my micron gauge which has two male 1/4" flares. Do you have one with a female down and one up? Three way valve would be fine but at least the upper female quick connect should have one. This would take a lot of potential leaks out of the two core remover setup. That would allow me to come off the 1/4 male on the core tool with an isolation valve to my micron gauge.

no, we don't have anything like that at the moment. Currently, these are all of our Speed-Ys. More information on them can be found at appiontools.com/search.php?search_query=spdy§ion=product

Can you pull the other way attaching the 1/4 Y to the refrigerant port via a core removal tool? And the two 3/8 hoses to the vacuum pump? So I have 2 hoses on each port? Or would I not gain anything?

Yes, this will work and speed up your evacuation as long as your aren't exceeding the volume of the pump. So if you have a larger vacuum pump then this shouldn't be a problem. But when you start using multiple large diameter hoses with some of the smaller pump on the market then you will actually slow down your evacuation because you are exceeding the CFM capacity of the pump. For example the TEZ8 is an 8 CFM pump and can yield (4) 1/2in diameter hoses at once with no issues. But if you were to connect the same hoses to a smaller, lets say 3CFM pump, the vacuum pump will be overloaded and not yield the same benefits.

    1/4 is a small diameter for evacuation. Takes a long time to evacuate a system with a 1/4. Versus a 1/2 or 3/8. 🤔
