    I have this model and have really enjoyed it so far. I had this and my ft2dr sitting across the house from each other beakoning aprs back and forth just so I could experiment with all the functions. For those that use aprs it can beakon it solitary without being on the aprs frequency. Kind of handy.

    After watching your review of the 878uv plus a while ago. I decided on the 878uvii plus because of the expanded memory capacity along with aprs functions. Love this radio. 73. KJ7ZHI

    I really like my Anytone 878UVII as well. It is set up where each DMR repeater gets its own zone so I can click through all the static talk groups on that repeater. For analog I have repeaters grouped in zones by location. A zone for Bay Area analog, Sacramento analog, LA analog, etc. Also linked analog systems like CARLA also get their own zone.

    I have this same radio and it's my EDC. I use VHF analogue for work, commercial freqs, as well as a VHF analogue ham repeater and UHF DMR ham repeater. I didn't know this one beacons APRS so will have to look into activating that.

    I recently purchased the 878UVII Plus and have found all your videos about this radio helpful. I have been able to hit most of the repeaters in the DFW area with the stubby antenna and even the Dallas DMR repeater from SW Grand Prairie. Amazing HT. Thank you for keeping us informed. Oh, have any idea what the book setting is for?

    First off, I'd like to say that I love your videos and they have always been helpful so far. I just got my Anytone AT-D878II Plus radio yesterday. I hate this radio already. So far, I have tried about 10 different codeplugs (for 878's), and CANNOT get it to work without a "Band Error." My frustration is growing with this $300 radio. I have like 10 different $25 baofeng's and 3 different Icom's and have NEVER had any issues programming them. Even the cheap Chinese radios. No issues at all. Apparently, Anytone makes you use their CPS software and it's absolute trash. Won't even let you copy/paste like Chirp (the simplest program on the planet). This radio is going back to Amazon in about 15 mins if I can't figure out how to program this thing. At this point, I am willing to pay (not a lot) someone to program this thing.

    The band error issue is an easy fix, although I can't remember what the steps are. I suggest contacting Bridgecom and inquiring with them. Amazon will give you no help at all. DMR radios...all of them....are more challenging to program than analog radios. If you think Anytone is hard, be thankful you don't have a TYY or a Baofeng DMR radio. Give it some time and understand there is a learning curve. No one ever said Ham Radio was easy.

    @@HamRadio2 I am trying! Thanks for your assistance. I will try giving them a call. Thanks so much for your prompt response. My issue is that I bought their "Super Code Plug" which has about 500 channels...but I also wanted to merge in the local repeaters from a codeplug I got from a local group. Tried that Contact Manager too but it was no help. I will say that the one thing I will miss for sure is the Icom ID-51A way that I can drive from town to town and scan for local repeaters utilizing the GPS in the radio. Apparently, this radio doesn't do that.

    Just an fyi I have confirmed it with bridgecom that the new 878uv ii plus can have either color button and said that was one thing anytone dropped the ball on. I was confused as my uvii plus has a blue button but states on the back and In system data that it is indeed the uvii plus

    Here is my problem. I got the new UV-878+2. I tried to write my code plug that I had already built and I am getting a Band Error. So I did the PTT #! and got trial version and changed it to 7 which is US Ham. And when I opened the CPS the software told me the model was 7. So that is OK. But when I try to write to the radio it does not remember Com Port 3. But, if I read from the radio it remembers the Com Port. When it fails on the Com Port I went into that field item and no Com Ports are listed and I hit the #3 and that finally comes up. But after I do that and press OK and then try to write to the radio, it still gives me a Com Port Error. I purchased the radio from Powerwerx instead of Bridgecom. Powerwerx just had the radio which was much less expensive then what Bridgecom charges. I am completely confused because I don't know what to do to get this to work. I am using Windows 10. Mark KB3Z

    Thanks for the timely video Jason. I recently bought the Anytone 878 ver. 2, hand mike, earpiece, codeplug and hotspot from Bridgecom. First, I loaded several local (live in Arlington) repeaters, some simplex and NOAA into the current CPS. But now, I'm ready to download and install Bridgecom's huge codeplug and don't want to lose my zone #1 "Analog" channels. Guess I should save my local channels on my PC. Would that be by exporting to the PC? I know that the files aren't standard text, but rather information the radio can use. Then... import the Bridgecom codeplug ( think there are 4) and then import my channels. What do you think? ...Then I'll add local DMR repeaters in another zone. And, finally set up my hotspot.

  • @HamRadio2

    @HamRadio2

    Read your radio and save the codeplug to your computer just normally. Not an export, just a standard READ. Download the free app called N0GSG Contact Manager and use it to open the Bridgecom codeplug. Then use that N0GSG Contact Manager to "import from another codeplug" the channels from your own codeplug that you just saved. Save that as a new file name and open that file in the Anytone software, then write it to your radio. If anything fouls up with it, you still have your old codeplug to revert back to and reload any time you want.

    Hi Jason! I just received my new AT-D878UVII Plus! I exported the codeplug from my older 868UV to .CSV files using CPS 1.39 and imported them into the AT-D878UVII Plus CPS. Everything appears to have imported correctly, EXCEPT for the ZONES! I tried exporting the Zones again to a new .CSV file, but the new CPS comes up with blank zones after the import. Any suggestions? Bridgecom is closed for the weekend. UGH! 73's, Paul, WB0BBC
