Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Rehabilitation Exercises - Phase 2

NUH physiotherapist demonstrates the strengthening and balancing exercises you should do about eight weeks after your anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery in this second episode of a three-part video series. During this second phase of the ACL rehabilitation which will last until about three months post-surgery, the exercises which you will be doing will build up your leg muscles and improve your neuromuscular control.
It’s important to listen to your body’s signals while you are working on the rehabilitation exercises after surgery. Remember to avoid jogging for the first three to four months after surgery, and doing deep squats for the first six months.
Your physiotherapist will share the exercises which you should be doing during this phase of recovery. In this refresher video, you can make reference to the closed and open kinetic chain exercises and neuromuscular exercises taught by our physiotherapist.
NUH runs an Orthopaedic Diagnostic Centre that assesses patients, especially those who are athletes and active in sports, after their knee surgeries to track their recovery process and milestones until they can return to the sports they were previously doing. At each stage of the recovery process, the team will plan for the patients to undergo certain diagnostic assessments and based on their performances, propose the most appropriate care plans for them.
