National University Hospital (NUH) Singapore

The National University Hospital (NUH) is the leading university hospital in Singapore, and a major tertiary and referral institution. While NUH opened its doors on 24 June 1985, its legacy goes back to the founding of what is today the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 1905. It is the principal teaching hospital of the medical school and the NUS Faculty of Dentistry.

An Academic Medical Centre under Singapore’s National University Health System, NUH provides affordable specialist care for patients, training for healthcare professionals, and undertakes translational bench-to-bedside research to improve care.

It is the only public and not-for-profit hospital in Singapore to offer a comprehensive suite of specialist care for adults, women and children, as well as paediatric kidney and liver transplant programme.

I had this done on one finger 2 years ago. I think the worse was the first injection to numb it and then when it was wearing off. The pain from the surgery was not bad at all and after about a month full movement and relief. Now I have another finger that has it and will get it fixed in a few weeks.

I had robotic assisted bilateral inguinal hernia surgery on May 8. Watching some of these videos and reading a lot of comments on others’ experiences was very helpful! I started eating nothing but chicken noodle soup and took stool softeners the day before through the day after surgery which minimized constipation. My pain level wasn’t bad at all so I only took hydrocodone for a day and ibuprofen for about 3 days. I’m a side sleeper so I couldn’t get comfortable in bed and slept poorly the first 3 nights in my recliner but was fine in bed after that. I took 4 10-minute walks each day I was off work for a week and returned to work with no problems. My incisions healed fine and everything checked out at my two week follow up. Knowing what I knew ahead of time was helpful but I consider myself lucky compared to what some experiences have been. I feel great and I feel normal pre hernia which I lived with for 7 years but it started getting worse the last couple of months. The hernia was definitely more traumatic than the surgery in my case. I hope what I pass on here is helpful for others.
