    I'm really happy things seem to be working out, Simple. I know that kind of decision making and major change can be really scary and stressful, especially when you feel like you're taking a chance and moving to something less guaranteed. But I hope you're able to see for real that all the people you've touched with your content and your personality really do have your back, and we all want to see you succeed!

    The best red coin levels in the original mario 64 were those where they were tied to specific small areas with tight platforming (TTM, THI, TTC, RBR) but it wasnt too bad in the other levels aswell cause all the levels were pretty compact. Red coins in Rom hacks can be annoying cause they are sometimes just spread out and hidden throughout the whole level. The challenge in the original was never where are the redcoins, but how do I collect them without falling/dying. If more romhacks had that philosophy when placing red coins they would be fun even without the 6/8 or radar.

    I still love what Foxen did with red coins in Cursed Castles, where every red coin is placed in a spot that's thematic to the mission, like "every red coin is on top of a flower" or something like that, so you have a better idea of where each one would be

  • @Orangestar1

    @Orangestar1

    3 жыл бұрын

    My favorite red coins in SM64 were thematic ones like that, where each red coin was in an obvious position theoretically but still required you to seek them out. I think that's the best option. It's a better option than what f'n SM64DS did with silver stars and just put those mofos on the map like oh great, thanks, didn't wanna have to think anyway.

    Fun fact: The L to break out of 2D isn't as unique as you might think. It is very likely based off of what happened in Super Paper Mario where you could use a meter to enter 3D and you'd take damage if you remained in it for too long, but otherwise were in a 2D plane.

    5:18 it's actually pretty simple: just place all of them in roughfully the same area in close proximity to each other. That way you can atleast narrow down the location of the last coin and don't need too fear dying with 7 reds. Even Vanilla SM64 does this in most of its later levels, but many rom hacks, even popular ones like Star Road do this mistake over and over again where they place 8 reds in the most random places possible

    I can’t help but think that the 3d idea in the game where your health depletes the longer you stay in 3d cane from Super Paper Mario on the Wii where the longer you stay in 3d you lose more health
