I used to play this for my mom in the nursing home all of the time. Well I since lost my mother to covid 19 in May. I couldn't even see her at all. The worst experience of mt life. And now hearing her sing this reaches to my inner core. Especially the part about wanting to see my mother. I'm ready to go home and see my mother.

No one has Mahalia's pipes, but Ann is the best person to play her!

Jesus Christ, when she started this song it was like going back in time. 5 years old, standing next to my grandmother in the kitchen. The window open, watching her cook, this song playing in the background. I got chills.

She could play in a movie as Mahalia like the real one day just the way she dress and Her Style

It might have started out as a performance, but then Holy Spirit stepped in and Ann Nesby allowed the Anointing to sang this song. Blessing Me! ⚘🎵🎶🎵⚘

This is wholly the most superb rendition and she has not only the voice but beautiful immense presence and gravitas to sing this song. I connect and believe..her delivery of th sentiments and feeling of this song. As a Director myself on artistic grounds, I would have cast Ann Nesby as Mahalia in heartbeat .

This is one of my favorites by Mahalia Jackson. My mom passed 3 years ago the pastor's wife (First Lady Rose Jarrett) song this song for the family, it was so beautiful and my sister's and I was able to hold it together. I'm glad I recorded it on my phone. R.I.P Mahalia Jackson and my mom Sadie Smith.😥😥😥

I’m weeping right now. This is reminds me of my beautiful mum....before she passed when she would sing . Her voice could be heard at every corner of that big old church. God and the spirit of Mahalia were taking her to a higher level. I remember seeing her do an impersonation of Mahalia in an interview on TBN some years back and she was superb then. Quite a few women have starred as the original Queen of Gospel in this show and they were nice but that essence of Mahalia just wasn't there. They might as well have made a concert out of Mahalia's greatest hits. But when the announcement came that Ms.Ann was starring as her, Mahalia herself, told God in heaven "NOW THAT'S THE ONE!'

Takes me back many years ago to hearing my own grandmama singing at a Sunday evening “gospel sing” at one of the many local churches in her small town of Hurtsboro, Alabama.

Got that strong voice like Mahalia. The kinda voice that can reach in a person's spirit and shake the inner core!

This needs a Grammy

I have seen few people do this song real justice and she is one of them. I have always loved her soulful voice....but after this performance i am seriously in love with her gift. She really blessed me with this performance.

Her performance as Mahalia is spot on!Sounds identical as Imitation of Life.

Oh my goodness i was in this very production with Ms Anne I was middle age mahalia and was back stage changing and listening. and I am just watching this in june 2023 my mom just passed last week I will be singing this at her funeral next week and I have always been so inspired by Ms Anne(as she had us call her) she is amazing all around wow🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 every rehearsal was touched by this woman!!! Anne Nesby did this classic justice. Tears came to my eyes because this was my mom favorite song and Imitation of Life (remake 1959) was my mom's favorite movie. I used to watch it with her during the holidays growing up. Anne Nesby is a singing lady. Has a voice that can touch anyone's soul.

She is amazing! She and Jennifer Holiday can embody Malhalia. I saw Jennifer in Si g Malhalia Sing in 1985 and it was beyond wonderful. Ann can definitely do that play as well.

Ann Nesby is the real deal for me, in the same vein as Queen Aretha, they sing from the soul of humanity itself, desolate and haunting. I cannot think of a singer other than Aretha who moves me more than Nesby. She has a beautiful distinct sound, a beautiful tone and haunting resonance... 99.9% of other singer trail in hers and Aretha's wake, they just have a special gift from god and emote through song in a way that others cannot do no matter the size or range of their voices.

I have been a fan of Ann nesbys since the The 80s. She can sing.

Psalms 47:7, "For God is the King of ALL the Earth. Sing ye praises with understanding." I be doggone if she didn't sing this song like she knew what she was singing about! It's a different listening experience when the singer is anointed, purified, and delivered and don't rely on JUST their talents alone. She meant this! I don't care if I'm the only one, but she REALLY blessed me!
