Preparing to portray Mahalia Jackson in her early years in a musical stage play here in Cleveland Ohio and my God learning more about her and hearing more songs makes me more inclined to attempt to do some justice to the role! She was a jewel before my time but blessing me and doesn’t even know it. Amazing vessel she was

I wish I could've met her. She seemed like a beautiful person. You can here the anointing in her voice. She died before my time, but I play her songs a lot when I'm at work and they help me to get through what ever is going on that night. A true soldier that has gone on home.

I met her at our house and since black people couldn't go to hotels. Families hosted them!! I was in awe!! I cried when I heard she had passed!! I am now almost 67 that was 60 years ago!! She was such a gentle, beautiful person!! I still listen tp this day!!

True story: I met mahalia at my aunts house in1970; she was very humble and sweet. She asked for writing paper and a pen; gave my sister and me her address and telephone number said, if you ever need me, here's how you can reach me. We never called. She passed away not too long after that. R.I.P Mrs. Jackson♡

I remember while i was growing up and my mom would have Mahalia singing resounding through the house...I guess you can say i grew up on hearing her sing gospel..I now have grand children and they ask who is that Grandma....i look at them and say "she was the greatest gospel singer there ever was" i love her still today as much as when i was a child ..She will always be the greatest gospel singer to me..Thank you for this wonderful video..!!!

My God my God when she sang at the end I couldn't help but shed tears (of joy) especially when she got to "For thine is the kingdom" I got chills right away! My father remembered seeing her funeral procession when he was younger and how the streets were crowded with people. This woman right here is what a true servant of God looks like, u can just feel his holy spirit within her

Christina, not only was she one of your mother's favorite singers, she was the world's favorite gospel singers. I grew up listening to her and fell in love with her. There was no one that could move you like she did. Miss Mahalia was truly blessed by God. I was so lucky to have seen this daughter of Christ in my lifetime. @@Mjohnson3030 the building was turned into Harrahs casino. When she passed away many schools including my own took the students to her memorial service because she was so iconic to the community.

U can feel the annointance all over her voice, I miss that about vocalist, when you could feel their gift and see God in it.

She sang The Lords Prayer. That was BEAUTIFUL! Had me in tears....

It was a blessing that she was able to sing and be noticed in her time of living! Racism was so strong and in full effect back in her days! But thankfully to the Lord, that she was guarded up by angels! She sung in lil tv movies back then as well..

Thanks for posting this rare footage. I went to Mahalia's funeral in Chicago as a young girl. I never forgot how Aretha Franklin sang Precious Lord and Coretta Scott King describing how Mahalia was Dr. Martin Luther King's favorite singer. She said, Martin always said "a voice like Mahalia's comes once in a millennium."

My favorite singer. I grew up listening to her music & learning about her life, music, & her work for the Lord. I had this DVD "Give God The Glory" which documented her 1969 European tour. A true servant of God. Today her voice is still unmatched

My parents and grandparents loved this woman. I grew up listening to this lady.

I have never felt so honored and humbled to watch a video. It was indeed my honor to sit and watch this footage of Mahalia Jackson. She was truly one of a kind gospel singer and woman of God.

Just love how she say everything for the lord 🙌

I am SO blessed to have met this beautiful lady!! She came to my church. Had no clue how famous she was!!!!!! I was 18yrs old. I simply told her how beautifully she sang!!!! She with a sweet Holy spirit smile with humility (no pomp and circumstance etc) said, "Why thank you sweet girl!" I'm 52 now. Amazing is an understatement. 🙏❤

Ms. Mahalia Jackson passed away January 1972. I was 7 years old, I'm 56 now. You couldn't have been 18 or even 8 at the time of her homecoming if you were 52 a year ago.

She is also my mama's aunt. Yvonne Jackson is her sister which is my Grandmother who sadly died when my mother was a little girl.

I am so grateful to know someone cares about our history in music ect. This video gave me chills! Thank You for sharing this priceless work of art!

I really enjoyed this. Thanks so.much for posting this. Her voice was truly one of a kind. My ears are very sensitive. I kept hearing a beeping sound. Not to get off the subject...it sounded like a smoke detectors battery needs replacing. Again thanks for sharing this wonder documentary.
