    Hi Pete, as you know I purchased the ANI 160Q with the 1.0mm tip based on your recommendation I’m a beginner to anyone else reading this, I missed that it needed more pressure than average I was using mine at 1.5-2.0 bar I got a good finish I used the gun on cellulose direct gloss, 2K direct gloss and also 2K clear as well, even with my mistake of setting a low pressure I got a good finish so much so I didn’t cut back an alloy wheel that I done. Thanks for the recommendation they really are a good gun to cut your teeth on to. Pete, great video as always mate cheers.

    Hi Lee, these use around 130lpm so most compressors will run them, you could do a full side of a car with one but it would be quite slow so you may be better off with a full size gun, yes it uses more air but will cover the same area in half the time, if however you are waiting for your compressor to catch up these may be the answer as you will be able to keep going

Struggled with base coat on my bumper and the clear was a nightmare trying to do that at 30psi.. I was using multi mix air dry clear and was insanely peely don't think there's much left after my wet sanding and polishing but looks ok.. trying to do my wings now and really struggling even with base think it's cause it's got a lot cooler, any way would you recommend 40psi for base and roughly 50psi for clear? Hi Paul, sounds like your having problems mate, the MM2 with air dry is a good clear, i haven't used air dry only fast hardener but the clear works will. I use normally around 2.5 bar for base, depending on colours etc but it's a good place to start, with clear don't be afraid to wack the pressure up on these, they really do like a bit of pressure, I normally use between 3 and 3.5 bar on the R160 depending what finish you are after. Try it at 3.5 bar and see how you go, if it's still peely slow down a bit and get a little closer to the panel, you'll get there it just takes practice. Also now it's getting cooler try heating the panels up with a heat gun before you paint and warm your clear up before you spray it, this helps it flow out, cheers 👍

    Hi Pete, excellent video, thanks! I just bought an R160/Q with a 1.2mm nozzle from spraygunsdirect (great company to deal with), and it feels like a nice piece of kit. Looking at the adjustments on it, there seem to be 3 "knobs" to twiddle, and I'm having troubles finding a manual or set of instructions as to what does what. One's at the back, and this obviously limits needle travel. I guess you set this to the maximum travel that you want, and then you always spray with the handle pulled back hard against it (ie you don't then try to half or 3/4 pull the handle back). This I get. There are then 2 more knobs. 1's on the side, below the paint cup. Does this regulate paint flow from the cup? I think I heard you say open this wide - is that correct? Finally, there's a little "tailfin" type adjuster, labelled 0 to Max. What does this do? Is it another to set to max? Beyond regulating max air flow and max paint flow, what does this third control do? If you know of a link to a good manual for this gun, or a generic one that's close enough, I'd be most grateful!

  • @peteshobbies5383

    @peteshobbies5383

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Ian, you are correct regarding the needle adjustment, if you hear me talk of "full fluid" that simply means you have no more left to limit the trigger. The one on the side by the nozzle is fan size, turn it in the fan will get smaller, out and it gets bigger, if I say full fan it's fully unwound so the fan is the biggest. The other lever at the rear is to adjust air pressure, if you are using the gun with a regulator at the bottom you want this wide open so full otherwise you will get false readings, hope that helps 😀

    Hi buddy, you can use a smaller tip size than is recommended without problems, you may need to thin down slightly but i spray the same viscosity paint in a 0.6 as i do a 1.4, you will need to be careful if the paint is a course flake metallic as you may have trouble with a smaller tip but this is only if you are adding flake to the basecoat, for HS clears it may be necessary to add up to 10% thinners and make sure the clear is warm before you spray, cheers 👍

    Hi buddy, If your after something to cover larger areas then the ANI R160 would do the job, it need quite a lot of pressure to get the best results so it may seem a little crude in comparison to airbrushes but it can give good finishes and isn't that expensive, another one to look at is the AZ4 Impact Junior which is a little bit more expensive but very good and a little more refined, cheers 👍

    The AZ4 comes in various tips sizes and 2 different caps, the one in this video is 1.3 and has quite a wide spray pattern, from memory it's around 190mm, the smaller tip versions with the different cap has a smaller pattern, the spray patterns on most sprayguns are adjustable but you get the best atomisation at full fan so it's best to buy a gun that has a pattern size that you want rather than adjust it down, in my opinion anyway

  • @peteshobbies5383

    @peteshobbies5383

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Ed, no, the tips aren't interchangeable so you will need a tip set for the R150 not the R160. The difference in fan size and material output is significant between a 0.8 and a 1.2 so will be much better if you are doing bigger things. The output of the 4 hole cap is also significant so it may be better to bite the bullet and go for a new R160 rather than go for a tip set, funds willing of course

The F160 does use more air but it's only a little and is a better spraying gun. You will struggle with the compressor you have with either of these guns to be honest, they will use 8cfm easy and you only have a small reserve in the 25lt tank. What are you planning on doing?

    Hi Mate, I would guess around 1.2 to 1.4 litres of ready to use base coat, clear around the same. It obviously depends on a lot of things, but that's a rough guide

    @joehiatt1992 It's always handy if it's your own bike, and you intend to keep it to have some extra basecoat, as long as it's solvent and you keep it in a sealed container it will last years so you know you have an exact match if you need to touch up a panel or whatever, 👍

    Do you still think f160 in 1.2 is a good gun for single panels?

    Hi Paul, do you mean the R160?, the mini gun? , if so, then yes, it's still a great little gun. It's gone up a little, but so has everything else. I thought for a moment your avatar was a 1000 Exup, but it's the one before it, the Genesis, I had an Exup for years, lovely bike

    Hi, Pete. I am looking to buy an ANI f1/N Super. Have you ever have any experience with that gun? and I only have a 50L air compressor. will it be enough?

    Hi Hazman, yes, i have used one of the F1/N, they are a very good value spraygun, the body is the same molding as the F160 , they use a reasonable amount of air, what's the CFM of your compressor? , and what are your planned projects? Cheers 👍

    @@peteshobbies5383 my compressor delivery is 230L/min so about 8 cfm. Just like you I'm planning to restore old motorcycles. Here in Malaysia ANI is already considered high tier and the R160/F160 is too expensive for me. I have only used chinese made gun before which I find inconsistent and either have too much overspray or leave too much orange peel.

    Do you have available in Malaysia the ANI GF3 min spraygun? , they are a great little gun and not that expensive; you will be able to do smaller parts, and most bike tanks with what you have with the bigger ANI gun as long as you start with a full tank of air, it's not ideal but you should be able to make it work, the GF3 will work fine with what you have, greetings from the UK buddy 👍

    @@peteshobbies5383 yes there is a local seller but they usually charge double the original price which is why I will buy from spraygundirect anyway. I think of buying a GF3 1.0 and F1/N super 1.2 and spare 1.8 tip for primer. I never found any review on the F1/N super just the F1/NS like you did. the difference is the super has a full metal fluid tip while the NS just has half metal tip and half like a plastic membrane which I am not sure will last long. Have you had problems with the NS membrane thing behind the fluid tip? cheers mate

    No, haven't had trouble with the fluid tip, the tip is brass and that is the bit that unscrews, the plastic part stays there unless you remove it to clean, i thought the only difference was the air pressure adjustment on the gun which is missing from the cheaper one but i don't own a F1/N i have only used one, i know the air cap is the same on both the cheaper one's and is different to the F160. I would recommend a 1.3 in the bigger gun, Malaysia is i think quite warm and humid so you will need a higher delivery
