Andy's Ancestry is what we make of it -- Office Field Guide - S9E3

Ойын-сауық

I thought this episode would be deep, but "depth" was it's red herring.

I don't like how they're tryna make Nellie into a normal member of the crew after she was a psychotic villain for basically all of season 8

As problematic as Andy is as a character, I cannot overlook the way Nellie just came in and manipulated her way into his job. It was mean, callous and not very funny. We don't just forget about it in Season 9.

The Randall Park opening has always been one of my favourites. I was about to give up on season 9 in its first broadcast run when they dropped this gem. Randall’s later experiences just made me love it more.

I think a rewatch series would be good, but I think it should be random episodes. Maybe rewatch it according to storylines like Michael and Jan. Skip through all the episodes that aren't germane to the storyline. Or maybe do videos about the storylines themselves and treat each storyline or story arc like you're doing a Field Guide. Videos could be things like Michael and Jan, Poor Richard's (The Office's Cheers), Branches vs. Corporate, Warehouse vs. Office, The Annex Chronicles, etc.

It's one of those episodes that reminds me of weird transformation that they did with Erin. She is really odd case, she kinda has hers all characteristics throughout all series, but sometimes she seems like a different character. Not evolved, grown or changed, just different. It's not like with Pam, that was evolved step by step(with mixed resaults), Eren just sudenly acts like the script described not Erin, but some new character based on Erin.

I agree. I love Elle Kemper but it does her talents no favor. Sometimes she's fun dumb, sometimes she's Pam but less interesting, sometimes she's girl Andy, sometimes she's a pointless love interest. It's tiresome.

I wonder if they had Dwight reference Game of Thrones in this episode because Mackenzie Crook who played Gareth on the original Office was filming season 3 of Game of Thrones when this was being filmed. Like in Last Day in Florida, Dwight said that Jim looked like the World’s tallest Hobbit and Martin Freeman (Tim) was in New Zealand filming the Hobbit when that episode was being filmed.

I use The Office in the background when I’m working at my art table every day. I discover more each go around. The inconsistencies of the characters makes me feel the writing really floundered. I liked some changes, some not. The entire time, I could not stand the Andy character, Phyllis is kind of awful , I mean really awful at times, Nellie’s arc was kind of interesting to me, Pam could really be pushy and annoying. Anyway, something new every time. Thank you for all you’ve done on this show. I wish you’d keep on ; but there are some other wonderful series worth a look. I’ll be sure to follow along with whatever you decide!

I absolutely hate Pam in this season. Jim and Pam are so incredibly codependent, I can’t stand either of them. The fact that Jim was upset that Pam chose to have lunch with a friend instead is so incredibly toxic. They live together, work together, and spend every minute of every day together. They literally sit next to each other at work; they don’t need to have lunch every single day. The fact that they can’t be apart for more than 5 minutes is so incredibly pathetic. I despise people who say that their relationship is perfect. Pam didn’t even think about Jim’s dream for more than 5 seconds before she said no. And then she has the nerve to say “I cAnT bElIevE hE dIdNt tElL mE”. that was literally how they showed that Roy was a bad partner; they showed him telling Pam she couldn’t go to art school. And now Pam is the toxic partner? what were they thinking? and then later in the season when she says “I want to be enough for you” is when alarms went off in my head. she wants to be the only thing in Jim’s life. She will shoot down his dreams and career prospects just so that she can control him and continue to be the only thing in his life. Other than their coworkers, who are their friends? what hobbies do they have other than “art” and watching sports? what do they do outside of the time they spend together? These characters have no friends, no lives and no hobbies. the writers dropped the ball so badly with all of the characters but ESPECIALLY Pam and Jim. And then they just restart the same storyline but with Pete and Erin? Seriously?? the more I watch these field guides, the more I realize how poorly written this show really is. Greg Daniel’s did a terrible job on every season he worked on. Also, I hate when people acuse any criticism against Pam as sexism. I’m a woman and that pisses me off to no end. just because someone is a woman does not mean that they can never be criticized. It’s incredibly sexist to act like women can do no wrong and that everything is somehow sexism against them. I’ve dealt with so much sexism and misogyny in my life and all that argument does is make real feminists look bad. I’m so tired of seeing that s**t in every comment section about how pam can’t be criticized. she is the most whitebread, bland, codependent and poorly written female character I have ever seen aside from Bella from twilight.

All-time great opening but man, this episode was annoying. All the characters suck, Nellie is annoying and pointless and the wrong person for her to have that bit with, Andy is just Michael 2.0 again and everyone else is just there again. Dwight and Erin's bit is kinda fun and I like Daryl's bit about time saving but I'd rather read a book again. Please Arrested Development field guide! 5:45 Me neither.
