Behold, Andromeda's Edge: A dazzling, uncharted region of space on the edge of the Andromeda galaxy. Littered with the modular debris of the precursor civilization, patrolled by malicious extragalactic raiders, and bordered by dense nebulae, The Edge is a last resort for the brave and foolhardy who seek a new life beyond the oppressive reach of the Lords of Unity.
Andromeda's Edge is a worker placement game in which your workers are upgradable starships, each with different special abilities. The gameboard features a modular hexagonal map, displaying regions of space with worker placement actions and sites for development. Your player board is a customizable starbase that allows you to build massive tableau engines by attaching various types of modules. Each player controls a unique faction with a subtly different way to play the game.
On your turn, you will either launch a starship or regroup all of your starships. When you launch, you send one of your starships to a region of Andromeda, with your choices limited by your prior placements and the positions of other ships. After you resolve your action, a battle may occur depending on the locations of your opponents and dangerous extragalactic raiders. Battles use a quick and exciting dice mechanic, with rewards for winners, but with a variety of ways to mitigate or take advantage of battle losses.
When you regroup, you’ll be able to make use of your tableau engine. This engine allows you to carry out a wide variety of actions, including generating energy, which allows you to carry out even more actions.
As the game progresses, you will build a new civilization by constructing developments on planets: observatories, factories, finance centers, cities, and obelisks. You’ll advance on several tracks, portrayed as characters moving through exotic science fiction environments. You’ll trigger events that will score different tracks. The game ends when any player has reached the endgame scoring threshold, and then players total up a variety of scoring attributes. The player with the highest score wins the game!

I am so freaking excited for Andromeda's Edge. Dwellings is absolutely amazing, and Space is my favourite theme! Flamecraft is one of the best looking games ever made and Luke Laurie knows how to make a very satisfying Worker Placement game. Anything he makes I have my eyes on!
Omg Dwellings of Eldervale storage was so on point, thanks for that forethought
"Fun Density" as a concept is quite eloquent.
Fantastic interview though I am chomping at the bit to actually SEE something from Andromeda's Edge. Dwellings is one of my top ten games (I know you don't love it Alex, but I still accept you) so if the game is an improvement I'll be all over it.

Check out Devon Talks Tabletop :)
Mission Catatrophe is so much fun, we love it, and can't wait for flamecraft, this is definitely a company to watch
Every time Cardboard Alchemy launches a title I'm probably backing it. Really good attention to quality and enjoyment.

Thank you Justin! Much appreciated - love your support, and will keep bringing awesome games to your attention! :)
I really like what I see from Cardboard Alchemy. Grabbing a Luke Laurie title automatically keeps them on my radar. Anxious to play Flamecraft once my friend's copy arrives.
I'm really exited about this content. Thank you Alex, for interviewing Peter!
I‘m really getting excited for Andromeda‘s Edge. I love Rise of Tribes and Mission Catastrophe. Flamecraft will arrive soon and I hope it‘s also a hit for us. Thank you so much for these wonderful games! I’m looking forward to everything that’s coming in the future. Also, thank you, Alex, for this great interview! 😊

You are most welcome - thanks for trying all our games! We are now making them for you!
Andromeda's Edge looks so interesting! I just wish they kept the good old hex tiles like in Dwellings of Eldervale instead of the new design. The tiles look pretty small and i loved the artworks popping out so well in Dwellings of Eldervale!

We hear you - although Sergio Chaves (who did the art in Dwellings on the hex tiles and will do Andromeda's Edge) will not let these disappoint!
Had no idea that Andromeda's Edge and Flamecraft were coming from Cardboard Alchemy. I passed on Flamecraft, but seeing the copies of the game arrive makes me wish I went for it. Really interested to see more of Andromeda's Edge. From what he describes, it almost sounds like the board game equivalent to Fallout in space haha.
I was lucky enough to demo Andromeda's Edge at Gen Con this year, and it was honestly the single greatest experience I had at the Con, especially chatting with Luke and Peter about the game. There is so much love and thought put into this game and I had such a great experience playing it. I have said it once and I will say it again, you know a game is bringing something special to the table when 1) you are enjoying it even if you are losing, and 2) all the people at the table do not want to end the game because they want to keep play. Peter, thank you so much for teaching our game at the Con this year, and all of your time/efforts. I greatly look forward to Flamecraft, and what AE's campaign brings in January. Cheers! PS - youtube kept deleting my comment.. so I changed the wording a bit and it seems to have posted now. Bigtime bummer that innocent comments are being filtered out. :(

Ashley! OMG, this is the best comment ever, thank you for taking the time to make sure it posted. I am so honored to have taught you the game at Gen Con, and thank you for all the kind words. See you at the Edge and beyond!

I hate that KZread does that 😒
Peter is my board gaming hero. Love his work.
12:34 I mean, it happens. Look what happened with Gaia Project: It is Terra Mystica in space. They really didn’t need to do it. But they more integrated the tech tracks. As for AE, I would guess that because some people actively disliked the combat system in DoE (I am not one of them, but I am just putting it out there), they are going to change it a little bit.

It definitely does :) But here I have the opportunity to ask why.
I have had the pleasure of playing Andromeda’s Edge several times now. It’s a lot of fun. Side note: I was surprised there was no mention of the Cardboard Alchemy Discord server where folks could get more information as well.
Fun density is such a good concept. Thank you both for this great interview! Ps Make Mission Catastrophe purchasable! :)

Backing Andromeda's Edge is a no brainer for me. I really love what they are doing and Peter is amazing! I'm also looking forward to that bag builder game! I backed and thoroughly enjoyed Rise of Tribes. This made me think that I might like Dwellings of Eldervale as well so I backed it. My friends and I are having a blast with it so most of us group pledged for Flamecraft. Now we're excited to receive Flamecraft and have fun with it.
Really enjoyed the conversation! It's as enriching hearing about these experiences as much as it is exciting to 'peek' at what is coming next. :) Peter Vaughan is a pretty cool guy. Cardboard Alchemy is very much impressing me, both in terms of quality and of gameplay/fun. It really shows the kind of company they strive to be. Well done! Looking forward for Flamecraft to show up at my door. :D Thank you for the video, Alex! :)

Peter Vaughn and Mike Rizzo taught me Dwellings of Eldervale and I cannot wait to get Mission Catastrophe to the table. Just got my notification that my address is locked in for Flamecraft and cannot wait to see what Andromeda’s Edge has in store. I guess you can say I’m a Luke Laurie, Peter Vaughn, and Cardboard Alchemy fan

I've always wondered whether you and Jesse have a friendly rivalry with trash talk. Great to see! Nothing more to say - I only had time to watch the first 5 minutes. It's been that kind of day... I'll try to finish the rest this evening.
Great interview!
Really interested to see what cardboard alchemy comes up with next!

You rock! Thank you very much, thanks for watching the video. Cheers!
Really loved the discussion, however its interesting how all of us board game players have different experiences, and criteria for what games we like. For example you guys talked about length of games, and how games that were less in time were more memorable then games that were 3hrs or longer. This is completely the opposite of my experience, and while I enjoy shorter games, anything shorter then 2hrs for me fells too short and not memorable. Honestly when I play shorter games, my comment is usually that was fun, but wish It was longer so I could do this this and this.

@@BoardGameCo Your welcome Alex. It was irritating the Hell out of me and as your channel is excellent i had to point it out. 😄
All else aside - do you just criticise the blockchain because SEC said it's bad? Do you actually understand why this would make sense for crowdfunding. Where KS could serve as a smart contract broker, and had no say in the campaign once the contract is set up? Blockchain means that the digital rewards need no DRM, and can be tracked which means protection for the creators. Do any of you actually understands the blockchain or you just heard something and jumped to conclusion. This is so frustrating. It's like the whole industry is against, but no one seams to understand it. Do your research or stop criticising. Just because G. Gensler said something it does not make it true...
@BoardGameCo

I actually have researched it extensively. Right now the blockchain as a concept is theoretically good but practically bad. Until it's not practically bad, yes, I'm against it. It's an absolutely huge energy drain and doesn't actually yet offer the security it claims to.

@@BoardGameCo Alex - could you please explain to me how it's practically bad? I really don't see this and I am in that space. Having KS using blockchain and smart contracts appears to me like an inevitable next step in this space. I'm glad you're not just against for the sake of it, but please let me know how you see this because I just don't get it.
