ANDRE WARD EXPLAINS WHAT POUND-FOR-POUND MEANS TO HIM; REVEALS HIS CURRENT #1

Спорт

"I look at the pound-for-pound list from a track record standpoint...some guys may have 3 or 4 losses, but you have to look at the whole track record...a track record of fighting the best and beating the best over an extended period of time...there has to be a consistent track record...shouldn't be about popularity...it shouldn't even about skill," stated future Hall of Famer Andre Ward, who explained his definition of pound-for-pound and revealed who he currently has as #1. Check it out!

I don’t consider p4p to be how many weight classes a fighter wins in because it would never be fair to LH, CW, & HWs. They don’t have much of any room for movement between weight classes. Instead I go by undisputed, competition fought, and at most a single weight class change but that’s humoring it as a bonus. Now Floyd was the p4p because of who he fought competition wise, and how many weight classes he did it in...on top of HOW he did it. Returns from retirement & completely outclassing the competition. Right now Crawford has it simply because he’s undisputed, which also speaks on who he’s faced competitively. Now In 147 he’ll have his opportunity to silence they naysayers. That said he’s not my favorite fighter nor do I really pay him attention. I’ve got Spence right behind him.

Clarence Morris I like Crawford as #1 but I'll make a case for Lomachenko. Starting with a few credentials 2 time Olympic gold medallist, near 400 wins as an amateur with only 1 loss which was avenged multiple times if you've been around boxing you'd know that is amazing with all the BS that goes on in the amateurs robberies bad ref's etc, been fighting world championship fights his entire career bar his first fight which was an interim title who else in history has done that??? People complain that he has only had 11 fights but guess what when you add the numbers up him and Crawford have the same amount of title fights and won their championships the same year if I'm not mistaken, he has won world titles in 2 divisions soon to be 3 who else in history has done that with so few fights?, level of competition he has beaten some good names Gary Russell Jr, Nicholas Walters, Guillermo Rigondeaux for example and then there's the skill level and how he's beating these guys making to level guys quite because he's hitting them and they can't hit him back which is the name of the game skill for skill who's doing what he does? Or something like that

BadAss Leprechaun I'm not taking anything away from Lomacheko he's a good fighter good Olympic gold medalist 2 times I get that but I'm just saying he doesn't jump over an undisputed undefeated champion like Crawford . Lomacheko is to be around for a long time and I'm time may be he does get that #1 Pound for pound spot but not right now .

Clarence Morris yeah true but you can make a pretty solid case for Lomachenko as I've stated some might simply say quality over quantity that's why P4P is pretty stupid you'll always have people who disagree and because it's subjective everyone's right no ones wrong 😂

See this is the problem I have with guys like Ward. He gives u his opinion on what he looks for in a p4p fighter then says Crawford is p4p #1 when he hasn’t beat anyone really. He hasn’t beat a single elite fighter yet and as far as him being undisputed that was 2 years ago and he beat 1 bum to get the titles then dropped them. He’s underrated yet most people have him 1 or 2 on their lists. Smh stupidity is contagious

I would add to Ward's definition of P4P. The #1 P4P guy should be someone with a consistent and dominant track record against top competition within a span of the last 3-5 years. There needs to be a time limit because, otherwise, old fighters like Pacquiao would still be considered #1, even though their skills have deteriorated, or young lions with no experience that have dominated for a single year or two will be considered #1, which is stupid.

leonard washington Crawford has already beaten two divisions but he can’t get credit for being #1 when no one has done this in over ten years.not Floyd, not Pacquaio, not Canelo, not Marquez, not GGG, but someone has the nerve to put him above Crawford. Just because the media didn’t hype the lower weight classes doesn’t mean it’s less then 147. Crawford dominated al those guys and is planning to do the same at 147.

leonard washington Only scalps? What about Postol to unify after he had just stopped Matthysse or Felix Diaz a former gold medallist or Indongo to unify and become undisputed champion? Name some who's done that the last decade or so?

Saiheme Billings he wiped the division out with nobody in it. Amir khan, Timothy Bradley, Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson, Devon Alexander, Marcos Madaina, were all in their prime in this division and he’s fought nobody as good as them.

Saiheme Billings hell adrien bronzer is a 3 division champ ain’t he but look what he did and Crawford not even fighting him. Crawford might be the best but his p4p ranking is based off people saying he’s good not quality of opposition. It’s like Spence being labeled the top welterweight over Thurman when Thurman has beaten better opposition not to say Thurman would beat Spence.

leonard washington so Indongo being an undefeated unified champion means nothing??? So Postol being the so called boogey man at the time a unification bout means nothing??? I bet he will end up fighting Spence

I like ward, probably the best super middleweight boxer...but he is not pound 4 pound boxer. Mayweather , jones jr, crawford are top 3.

I’ve always said that Ward wasn’t a skillful boxer, meaning he wasn’t a technical boxer. People called me a casual or a racist cuz of it but here Ward is telling u that exact thing by explaining what he sees in a P4P fighter. Ward was a great fighter cuz he found a way to win his fights but he wasn’t a good boxer. Matter of fact he was an extremely dirty fighter that would have probably lost if he ever left America. Probably the reason y he never did.

If youre seeing it as the number 1 is unbeatable at his weight then the number has to be Lomachenko. No one wants to fight him and if they do, they give up. He's my number 1 and I give Crawford number 2.
