brother, I really doubt population explosion could be really the biggest issue in Pakistan. The population, if become educated, skillful then the same people become formidable force for both Pakistan and world as a whole. This is what professor talked about in other interviews. It is great to see a science professor taking up the issue of human development.

I wish the politicians, those who are blaming Army, were genuine politicians. They were all introduced and nurtured by the Army. We don't need the type of democracy which is prevailing in our country.

Prof. Hoodbhoy is one of the few sensible people in Pakistan. So few views are the proof.

I may like to add that after Pakistan Freedom Movement we needed a Pakistan Loyalty Movement that unfortunately could not be mobilized for various reasons. However, we have gone through the first phase of stabilization of institutions and our Army and civil bureaucracy are well established now. A critical analysis of our state will reveal that we have adapted to best bits from the world like Islam from Arabs, one of the best religions, Urdu, from muhajars and British state systems. I feel, first world is working on new political, social, financial and educational systems to integrate the developing world into the developed world wherein our present issues like community identity, corruption, political instability and poverty shall be settled. In the coming decades we may see our main challenge will be to adapt to these new systems and our intellectuals shall have to play a major role.

Whilst they've both touched upon some genuine grievances and I agree that for too long there's been a Punjab centric grip on federal government and throughout Pakistan. However they appear to be subjective and struggle to acknowledge the changing realities and efforts made by the current Government despite the monumental internal and economic obstacles the current administration face including a politicisation and corruption of institutions. Yes whilst the Military has a significant influence over the administration of a Pakistan given the events of history, however both the civilian government and the military do now appear to have a concensus that Pakistan cannot operate as it did in the past. Four decades of corruption and degradation of not only the population but more importantly the institutions and civil service of Pakistan cannot be fixed in one term of a new Government who appears to be sincerely trying to reform and build a new Pakistan.

State above state will you find in every single country in the world.

Yeah, that's possible, but countries are still progressing. People have rights, protection of the law, opportunities to excel in education, and freedom of speech. As a Pakistani, I would love to see those things here, and honestly, I don't care if you have kingship here instead of democracy. It's about time we accept our shortcomings and try to improve rather than making excuses and commenting on other countries.

I understand both side is problem one aide is 109 percent and other side is 50 percent you have to talk about noon league and ppp and all people corruption noon league never provide London appartments

Its more about individuals than what a particular institution did or did nt do. Zia ul haq was a disaster, but mush n ayub khan were not that bad. Now the experiment with Imran khan is turning out to be a nightmare because he is radicalized n alienating pakistan from uae n saudia.

Dr. Hoodbhoy, a man of your intellect (whatever that means), blindfolded by idea of getting stuck in the past is flabbergasting to see, really. Not yet have we seen you raise voice against the unprecedented corruption the country has been plagued with for the longest time ever, and pointing fingers back and again to the military is surely not helping your cause. The army may have had a role in shaping democracy in Pakistan back in the good old days, no doubt, however they seemed to have moved on and embrace the reality of letting the civil regime running the country. We all know very well, as history dictates, army getting involved makes things a whole lot nastier. Religious fanaticism also soon enough will become a page in the history of Pakistan (Allah willing), but khudara stop fooling yourself and your followers. PDM is a product of what happened during the Musharraf era and these butt-hurt corporate thugs seek a way out to start fresh again, you can’t ignore it. At least for once lift your veil of ignorance and stand by the truth even if you can’t be that vocal about it.
