You have to take a look what happened before the pact - Nazi Germany annexed the Czechoslovakia and Poland wouldn't USSR troups which were keen on coming for help through it's territory. From that moment on the german intensions were clear for all the members of "Munich Agreeement" or this event is also notoriously known as "Munich Betrayal". At that time the USSR wasn't ready for the war and was building the personnel army after the purges (which actually happened because the WW1 russian army showed an absolute unpreparedness to the modern type war) and tech side of the army. So it was crucial to buy time

You need to differentiate between Nazi and German Soldier. Its a big difference. For the most part only Wehrmacht soldiers, i.e. German soldiers, took part in D Day. The 12th SS Panzer Division, i.e. Nazis, were stationed behind the landing and attacked the Allies after the landing.

I am a Russian Armenian and my great-grandfather fought in World War II, Stalingrad, Poltava, Kremenchug, Sandomierz, Częstochowa, Rosenberg, Dresden and many others. And the least I can do is keep his memory alive. I hope people in these and other cities, sometimes will remember the Soviet soldier when they see sunset or sunrise in their beautiful city.

Always one to fight for the oppressed, my earliest memories of him include him telling me about how Canada mistreated the Indigenous and some of my last were his recounting outrageous things he saw Canada do to it's own people, as well as an outrage over the mistreatment of Chinese rail workers during initial construction. My mother grew up confused as to why he could get along so well with various people who trace their roots to Eastern Europe but before WW2 and never could get along with most who arrived after the war... turns out it was probably cause they were Nazis.

My grandfather, during the German occupation of Crimea, went underground while he was still in school. His father was shot by the fascists as a person of Jewish nationality, and his mother was shot as the mother of a partisan. He made it to Vienna and never talked about the war, never wore his medals. Occasionally, he would gather with friends - old, kind, funny ones; they would drink and laugh.I don't understand who could have fought against the Russians during World War II?!.. Except for the fascists and their collaborators, there were only collaborators who were bought with German promises of illusory independence. These "Ukrainians" were exactly like that. The real Ukraine fought against the Nazis shoulder to shoulder with Russians, Belarusians, Jews, Georgians, and many others, because they were one people! I would like to ask the Canadian government - what battles did the "Ukrainian" nationalists win?.. I'm sure they will remain silent. Because in these battles, only ordinary people in villages, women, and children were dying.

it wasn't just "a mistake". Canada became a main shelter for nazis after WW2. Everyone knew that in the US and Canadian governments. Read some articles about "Operation Paperclip" and how americans rewrote tons of biographies so they could take those nazis to serve in NA

although putin's remark is correct.... just want to point out that it does NOT in any way make him personally a saint or a shinning beacon of light or something.... his ENTIRE career is based on lies, fakes and actual murders of people. In fact his hands are covered in blood up to his shoulders.... Western folks that are not familiar with who he is often fall for his "charisma" - which is one trait that he was specifically taught during his kgb years. But other than the "picture" that he tries to portray - he is directly responsible not only for the current war in Ukraine ...but ALL the murders in russia since he took office. ' His career was "solidified" by "false flags" events where civilian apartment complex building were blown up in russia in late 90s ( resulting in hundreds of people dead ) and blamed on chechen separatists - hence the start of the 2nd chechniya campaign.... Its a covered up operation carried out by FSB and ironically also "leaked" by FSB .... I can go on and on about what putin is but i think you get the picture. Also besides his talent to cause actual hot conflicts ...he is also a very VERY incompetent leader ...pretty much everything he touches in russia turns to a metaphorical "horse manure" russia is in for a BIG surprise ( biggest in its history and possibly last in its history ) when putin goes...and he WILL go ..one way or another. Once he goes...that entire regime that he built on fear will fall like a pile of garbage that was not put into a plastic bag on time.... russia will implode under a weight of internal conflicts, economic and financial misery, social and political decay...basically it will rot from inside and disintegrate into a dozen or so failed states...

I am an old man and my father fought Nazis starting from the first day of their invasion in 1941. My home town was under Germans and we all know what Nazis and their SS divisions were about. Do not take this shameful case of the standing ovation in Parliament as something outstanding. Thousands of those war criminals who voluntarily joined the Waffen SS divisions and killed Jewish, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian civilians, after the WW2 found a nice and peaceful home in Canada. They established their organizations ( f.e. OUN and UPA), promoting their Nazi leaders (S.Bandera, Shukhevich, ets.) into the national heroes, they have a lot of community centers with the prominent people to advance their interests. I think this is the reason why this embarrassment had place.

I dont care people agree with Putin’s moves or no but i must say Putin is a great and respectable leader of his country, with dignity and grace, he is intelligent and strong minded , a man who is not afraid of any criticism and has a good outlook on the future! I am Canadian, my great grandfather died in a submarine two days before the war ended, they were struck down by Nazis. To have one of them get a standing ovation in our parliament... I can't find the words to describe how this makes me feel. It is far beyond embarrassing. How is Trudeau still in power? It is truly mind boggling. Thank you to Putin for understanding that this is not something we Canadians are ok with.

I'm no expert, but what killed your great grandfather was not a hardline Nazi, that was a Kriegsmarine sailor doing the job of every Wehrmacht soldier, fight for the fatherland. The real Nazis were the SS, or this man for example. If they gave a Wehrmacht trooper from Heer, Kriegsmarine or Luftwaffe alike I'd understand but what they rooted for was an SS

you also have to understand how big of a deal this is in Russia. The defeat of nazi germany is still an enormous part of its history and culture, and so the hatred of naziism (for destroying Eastern Europe in ww2) is very strong. Rightfully so.

As a Canadian, I appreciate Putin recognizing that the Canadian people are mostly decent, and most do NOT think the way our inept Prime Minister does. Oh Canada! 🍁

In democracy, leaders are chosen by the people and is a reflection of their value system. Canada cannot calls itself a democracy and then disown what its entire house of chosen representatives did.

Polish fought against Nazi, Ukraine didn't in its entirety Because of history between Russia & Poland, Poland tricked to actively in support of Ukrainen Nazi now. While we remind ourselves of past, we need to look for the future. The past is used as alarm to prep ourselves so the past won't repeat but we are failing on that. Many time US tried to fuel a war between Japan and China post WWII, given the suffering from China's side (a race of Japan's masccare of 300,000 in 6 weeks), China contained itself to avoid further suffering on both sides. This doesn't mean they forgot history.

@@kingmarc77 No. I don’t support Putin. But, Ukrainian politicians are not so “innocent”. I don’t consume the shameful image Zelensky is trying to sell most countries to get their money. The war could have been avoided. Ukraine thought it could win the war, but the reality is showing us that this won’t happen. Ukraine allowed NATO to use them as pawns in a proxy war against Russia. NATO do not care about Ukraine but only about the USA hegemony in eastern Europe. This is not a war for “freedom”, is a war for power.

Они хлопали на автопилоте, не разобравшись. А когда ситуация с нацистом прояснилась принесли извинения и сказали что это была ошибка. Поэтому то что Путин это смакует и упускает последствие с извинениями и раскаяниями говорит о том что Путин просто манипулирует фактами

@@benizchicago , в нормальных старанх за "хлопание" кому-угодно не заводят уголовные дела. И да они хлопали не разобравшись, потому что пригласил один, остальные были не в курсе, в том числе и Зеленский. А когда позже разобрались уже было понятно что совершили ошибку приветствуя этого нациста. По поводу ракет - решение о них не делает 1 человек, это коллективное решение и там люди обсуждают, такой же ситуации по ракетам быть не может. Но при всем при этом в Украине нет "режима", там свободные выборы были после майдана уже 2 раза. Какие такие режимы проводят свободные выборы? Если выборы есть и кандидат меняется то режим существовать в принципе не может, т.к. каждый президент приводит свою команду, ведет свою политику.
