‘Naïve’ to think Russia will lose war, says Dr Jordan Peterson

Notions that the Russians are going to lose the war in Ukraine are “naïve,” says clinical psychologist Dr Jordan Peterson.
“Or that we’re going to win,” he said.
“I don’t understand that. What do you mean we’re going to win? What are we going to win here exactly?
Dr Peterson said even if Vladimir Putin allowed Russia to retreat from Ukraine, the country would be left in “smoking ruins”.

    LOL. People can hate large human population, but nobody hates humanity per se. Hating humanity means similar to wishing an asteroid hitting earth to end everything. I am sure nobody will wish for that. And there is a legitimate debate around the whether the current technology and current population will lead to a better life for future generations or a worse life for future generations. Because if it is possible that current technology and population is creating a nightmare for majority of our future generations, then what is the point of having large future population who aren't living good lives. Jordan peterson isn't mad about people being worried about climate change and pollution, he is also worried about that. Nor is he worried about people asking for reducing population by having less babies( OBVIOUSLY NOT BY KILLING PEOPLE). He is worried about fall of birth rates in the west. Which he considers as the forebearers of best of humanity. I mean I don't care about his love or affection to European people and culture. It is neither rational or irrational, it is just a matter of taste. I just believe that his conclusion that people in west are not reproducing because of white guilt or their shaming by the NEO-MARXIST left is wrong (Which is obviously a boogeyman). People in west aren't reproducing less because they are being told that we should prevent climate change but they are doing it because this is the logical conclusion of scientific worldview and individualism. The love and yearning for having children is unscientific and irrational, so deciding to have less children is the logical outcome of modernity. People just calculate pros and cons for having a baby, which should not be even a question to begin with. But with modernity, having a baby is a matter of calculation. People calculate whether they want to sacrifice their time, money, years etc for having a baby, and most people don't want to do that sacrifice. Again, the love for children should be irrational, but being IRRATIONAL is a slur in modern era.

He is vilified for being a merchant of doubt and using his psychological analysis to make what appear to be shock statements on any subject to further his book sales and for personal gain. In this case somewhat becoming a Putin apologist and making the public cast doubt on responding the way the allies have is the right thing to do! Which by the way - of course the right thing to do (win or lose) is to make this as hard & painful for Putin to do to discourage him or other countries from doing it again.

    The idea that Putin can just "turn off the gas" to force a victory in Ukraine is so completely wrong, that in order tod draw that conclusion you either have to be regurgitating uncut Mother Russia propaganda, or completely dumb. Draw your own conclusions as to which JP is. The EU has enough oil and natural gas to provide heat and electricity to all residential areas through spring of 2025, and that doesn't even factor in the additional offset of several nuclear powerplants that France recently reactivated. At this point, the only thing that withholding gas can accomplish is restricting European manufacturing and energy intensive industries. Putin essenttially has the option of temporarily hurting the European economy, but only at the expense of permanently decimating the remainder of Russia's economy, which relies on energy exports for 50%-65% of GDP. The trade off is so lopsided that I can't imagine there's any way Putin is dumb enough to do it, but if he does, victory in Ukraine will come that much sooner.

Russia does not have the technology to liquify their gas, so the only option is to run it through pipelines in it's gaseous state. It's western oil companies like Shell, BP, Exxon that have the technology to build a liquifier facility, but even if they agreed to build one (which they will never do during a conflict), it takes several years to even build a plant. Asia and India were buying extra discounted oil and gas through the summer, but they now have no additional storage facilties to buy more even if they wanted to.

    @@paulybeefs8588 Your argument fails from first principle. Unless, of course, you're saying the quiet part out loud, that this is the West's war and Ukraine has nothing to say about it? Hes not talking simply about EU, but Ukraine and *all* of Europe. What no one seems to get their heads around, is the reason this is called a 'special military operation', is because its a Russian constitutional constraint. Contrary to Western propaganda, its not some kind of euphemism; Russians in fact do respect rule of law and their laws have restricted the number and type of troops they can apply, as well as what kinds of weapons and targets. Until now, they've been restricted to ~200k deployed troops and military targets directly engaged against Russian forces. Example: they must track a weapon from the battlefield to a depot, or from a depot to the battlefield, in order to strike said depot. This is why they've hit so few training camps and weapons depots, despite knowing where they are. No one seems even casually curious about why Ukraine still has electricity, water, phones, internet, etc, despite knowing without doubt that Russia has the capability to deny all of it. There is some question what a 'partial mobilization' means legally, but it will probably ease the constraints on targeting strategic infrastructure, like utilities and services and more importantly, state level leadership. This allows them to wait until winter sets in, when there is *nothing anyone can do about it* and start taking all of that away. Nothing will be more catastrophically demoralizing to troops, than to assume their families are freezing and starving in the dark. Assuming, because they can't even communicate with them. If you think the London Blitz was hard, wait till you see it with precision cruise missiles and TBM blasting every building with a Ukrainian flag on it to rubble and hitting everything with a pipe or cable going into or out of it. You are an unmitigated fool, if you think they they haven't, because they can't.

  • @paulybeefs8588

    @paulybeefs8588

    Жыл бұрын

    @@springbloom5940 It actually doesn't fail at first principle. I was articulating the points Peterson presented in the interview. Nobody brought up mobilization, but since you did, let's go for it. Russia isn't losing this conflict because they don't have enough troops. They are losing this conflict because they are bad at logistics. They cannot adequately supply fuel, ammunition, food, clothing, housing, or equipment to the number of soldiers they already have. It's already a disorganized clusterf*ck that's crumbling at every stress point. But you are contending that if they add an additional 300,000 troops on top of the 200,000 they already can't supply, that this is going to be the turning point? Hilarious. Russia is already desperately turning to any remaining ally for help on dwindling resources, including turning to North Korea to resupply their shortage of ammunition. They are literally running out of everything except oil and gas. On top of that, how many resources will they devert from the conflict to prepare 300,000 troops for battle. And they are going to coordinate the logistics for this? Give me break. The reason Russia isn't targeting civilian infrastructure is because they have a shortage of guided missiles. Every single missile Russia wastes on a civilian target is a missile they don't have for a military target. The idea that Russia has the capability force the Ukrainian population to submit through brute force strength is so misinformed I don't even know where to start. Is that an idea you just invented in your head? Or is there actual literature that gave you this idea? I'm incredibly curious if it's the latter. You're an unmitigated fool if you think that Putin has the ability to win this conflict, but is simply losing because he's not trying.

I still can't believe Russians buy the story of Ukraine or Nato wanting to attack Russia and therefore they need to attack Ukraine. It has always been about recources in any shape or form. Russia has a declining Economy and a declining population. Now it starts wars for recources and is deporting millions of people like the Nazi's but for different ends. It is also indoctrinating children from any race to be a mindless soldier or citizen, much like the Ottomans and Nazi's did. They might even start cloning soldiers if they had the chance. In many ways Russia's regime has become the new Nazi's.

    @@themadnes5413 Pray tell us how Zelensky is a maniac for defending his country!?! Honestly I think Jordan has a different concept of enemy than we here in Texas. To Jordan, it is the cold. He grew up in Fairview, Alberta which is a 14-hr drive north of Vancouver. So it's understandable his worldview is influenced by this reality. We, in Texas, and much of the Southwest live in a territory that many would like to reclaim for Mexico. I think it's not easy for Jordan to wrap his head around the idea of say, a Canadian Indian tribe, shooting down civilian airliners with missiles in a bid to shoot down Canadian air force jets. According to Wikipedia, "the Battle of Loon Lake, also known as the Battle of Steele Narrows, concluded the North-West Rebellion on June 3, 1885, and was the last battle fought on Canadian soil." There were four Indian deaths and a dozen injured. It was a rout. No Canadian cavalry deaths or injuries were reported. Consequently, Jordan has a fundamental lack of understanding and sympathy for my wife and my efforts to stop two major Islamist airliner plots after running for 5 years the Alamo school in Japan. On our honeymoon, we discovered a gift by a Japanese writer named Shiga Shigetaka to the Alamo. He had the good fortune of growing up in a city where both a siege like the Alamo and a crucifixion like Christ took place. The unfortunate crucified castle defender was named Torii Suneemon. Seeing the parallel as a boy, Shiga immediately felt a connection with the Alamo heroes. In his college years he was taught by a former colonel of Abraham Lincoln who came to teach in Japan for 10 months in Hokkaido. His stone gift to the Alamo was offered both to express the friendship and likeness between Japanese and Americans and to help Japanese expatriates connect with their new homeland. He was very popular in Japan but sadly there was no intellectual equal to him to project his vision of a Japan firmly allied with America and England. He died in 1927. This history means absolutely nothing to Jordan Peterson.

    JP is the opposite of "spot on." The idea that Putin can just "turn off the gas" to force a victory in Ukraine is so completely wrong, that you'd have to be either a Russian citizen completely cut off from current information about European energy, or completely stupid to come to that conclusion. I know which JP is. The EU has enough oil and natural gas to provide heat and electricity to all residential areas through winter of 2024, and that doesn't factor in the additional offset of several nuclear powerplants that France recently reactivated. At this point, the only thing that withholding gas can accomplish is restricting European manufacturing and energy intensive industries. Putin essenttially has the option of hurting the European economy, but only at the expense of completely decimating the remainder of Russia's economy, which relies on energy exports for 50%-65% of GDP.
