Putin challenges West: "What right do you have to warn anyone?"

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday accused the U.S. of 'arrogance' in telling other countries how to behave.
In his annual keynote speech at the Valdai Discussion Club, this year in Sochi, Putin addressed the United States.
"All the time, we hear, 'You must', 'You have to', We're seriously warning you'. Who are you anyway? What right do you have to warn anyone? Maybe it’s time you yourself got rid of your arrogance and stopped behaving that way towards the world."
Putin said Russia saw all civilizations as equal and was ready for "constructive cooperation" while the West, which he accused of having forgotten the meaning of compromise and seeing any country that opposed it as an enemy.
Putin also suggested that the plane crash that killed Wagner mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin in August was caused by hand grenades detonating inside the aircraft, not by a missile attack.
The private Embraer jet on which Prigozhin was travelling to St. Petersburg crashed north of Moscow on Aug. 23, killing all 10 people on board.

I mean, it's good to see them reporting Putin's actual words, but his words are still worthless. If you want an example of why the west has every right to lecture Russia, just look at the Koreas. The US supported South Korea, Russia supported North Korea. The US helped the ROK create a thriving liberal democracy, Russia helped the DPRK install a dictator that ruled with an iron fist. Look at he two nations today. Russia still has this medieval mentality. Their special military operation in Ukraine is designed to rob the Ukrainians of all independence. There is a good reason why they are resisting so fiercely, because nobody in the world wants to be ruled by the Kremlin. If you listen to this guy, check your head.

If Putin's Ruzzia had any decency left, they would know whom to turn against - “The Kremlin”. Unfortunately, this is wishful thinking. Russia is paying for this war with a deepening budget deficit. Their national wealth fund will be badly depleted by the end of the year. A lot of Russia’s talented and educated left the country. The $465 billion in Putin's war chest has been frozen and will almost certainly be given to Ukraine. At the end of last year Russia has lost 40% of its oil and gas income and it is not coming back. Russia has been forced to cut oil production and will probably continue to do so as this war drags on. Russia's GDP is beginning to shrink under the pressure of sanctions and that is to say nothing of the systemic corruption that undermines all these war efforts - individuals who are well practised at stealing a good portion of the new budget. Good luck Russia... you are going to need it.

The worrying thing is that you have too many people who are bra1nwashed from childhood and don't have critical thinking, who believe in American exceptionalism and think that it has rights to enforce its own "rules based order" and prosecute anyone who is willing to stand against. Your country is spending 50% of its budget (which is massively founded from new debt) on military while even now RU spends ~7% (and practically have no foreign debt, for years now). RU is welcoming multipolar world order which will finally decolonize smaller nations across the world and let everyone have fair trading and mutually beneficial relations.

I'm a US patriot 100%, and I must say that Russia has one heck of a well-spoken, well presented man running them. The things he says are completely true about us. We need to practice accepting other countries and cultures for the way they are different and stop pushing our way down their throats. Our country does the same to its own people.... men in women's sports and their bathrooms. Gay pride month and controlling our media. This is why our constitution says we can have guns.... so when someone finally gets fed up and attacks us, we can pick our own side depending on how we have been governed.

@@canteluna I'm also Iranian, living in Iran. A simple Chrome extension or DNS configuration can be enough to bypass the internet blockade and also access sanctioned websites. As for your second question, many Iranians crave change and are tired of inconclusive negotiations and threats. We've seen that the lives of our people often come second. Many other countries are in worse situations, but Iran attracts special attention due to its strategic location and resources. By "them," I'm certain they meant Western and some eastern countries with their imperialistic policies, which has cast a shadow over Iran for centuries. Ironically, the only democratic government Iran had was overthrown by the combined efforts of the US and UK. Just thought I'd share that as a bonus fact.

@@mm-qq7bb I'm aware of the overthrow of Mosaddegh by the US and the Brits in 1953. The rest of your comments are vague: "inconclusive negotiations and threats" By whom? "We've seen that the lives of our people often come second." In relation to whom? "Many other countries are in worse situations, but Iran attracts special attention due to its strategic location and resources." What special attention are you referring to? "By "them," I'm certain they meant Western and some eastern countries with their imperialistic policies, which has cast a shadow over Iran for centuries." Who is casting the shadow? Saying "them/western and eastern countries" isn't exactly clear to whom you're refering. And your English is perfect (sure you're Iranian?), it's just vague. Again, vague without context. If these are responses to something I wrote, you should quote me. I write a lot and don't remember this conversation. As for the coup. I don't condone it. However, oil is big boy business, and if you're threatening to nationalize the oil industry that exists due to the British creating it for you, allowing you to become wealthy and therefore powerful, don't think you're going to jerk that chain without consequences. And to leave the facts at a "democratically elected president" is rather misleading when you're about to cut a deal with the USSR and essentially become their vassal state. Same goes for socialist Allende in Chile. The "cold war" was serious. And though many didn't see the socialist system as corrupt and evil at the time, I don't think any serious person wear rose colored glasses any longer. Geopolitics and the competition for energy in the world are beyond Sunday School morality and require the sober scrutiny of real politik. I hate to burst anyone's balloon but wherever there is the weilding of geopolitical power you will find a certain level of corruption and hypocrisy. All we can do is lean toward the light and use our power as citizens in "free societies" to demand better. And I do think the US is "better" than we were in 1953 in some respects - and worse in others. At the end of the day, it's only the deluded leftists who claim the enemy of the perfect is the good, the rest of us don't have that luxury because we don't have unlimited options. We have hard choices - often between terrible and not-so-great. But the West certainly offers a better society than the Islamists and the dictators are offering by almost every metric.

Long before the start of this war, RUSSIA had repeatedly called on the West to give security guarantees to the Russian Federation and to end the further military build-up of UKRAINE as a neighboring state. What the leadership in MOSCOW received at that time was rather ridicule and ignorance. The Americans (I specifically mean the government and the circles that support this government in Washington!) are the worst evil in this world and you can see that this clique is ready to do ANYTHING to maintain their supremacy in the world. However, due to sanctions, you will not be able to use cards and various Apple Pay now. You can change euros /dollars at the current exchange rate literally anywhere, in any bank. At the moment, there are few safer and more convenient countries for traveling than Russia.

Regarding Europe's economy, he is ON POINT! I am in Finland and more than 40% of the infrastructure sector has completely halted, no future projects, and jobs in other sectors are also falling. Even though the government hasn't officially announced it but recession is in full swing with rising prices. Given how the situation is unfolding, and the developments in other parts of the world, recovery for Finland looks like a distant dream. But the rhetoric and hate against Russia are so strong that they can't see through the fact that supporting Ukraine or the USA in this war is not serving them in any way. It's time, each country starts looking out for itself.

Putin in his speeches always says more than the actual words mean. There is no contradiction in his words that we dont't need any connections with the West any more with his earlier actions. Since the collapse of USSR Russia has tried to cooperate with the west, establish good connections, find points of agreement, find compromise but all this time it has been treated as a colony and a source of cheap natural resources, russians have always been disrespected and looked dawn. In this talk Putin says 'that's all, we've done with the west, we are tired'. The most interesting thing that he doesn't adress this speach to the west, he adresses this speech to all the countries which share his views about all peoples equality and mutial profitable connections and exchange of cultures. He invites new friends to join Russia. The war in Ukraine has been prepared since early 2000s by some states, they have been provoking Russia for such a long time and finally managed.
