Their existence is reduced down to one trait about them: their dwarfism. That would prevent some parts of their life from being normal sure, but there's no reason they couldn't have a somewhat normal life in a normal city. Instead the PRC tucked them away and has them put on little shows to be laughed at. Sure they're happy, the alternative is destitution in a major city or god knows what else in the PRC, doesn't make it right.

But, the issue would be, Warwick wouldn’t have work (other than at Christmas), and his dwarf talent agency where he represents other little fellas would go out of business.

@@TuorTheBlessedOfUlmo Except you're ignoring the fact that as an actor, Warwick has literally had to scratch and claw his way to where he's at, now, while the people in that village are literally only there because it's one of the only ways they can make a living. What other fucking work could he have done other than play the ewok or the leprechaun? Another better example would be Peter Dinklage, who has specifically tried to avoid roles that he could only land because he's a dwarf. I highly doubt he'd be okay with it if somebody asked him about it. Why should Warwick be fine with it just because that's how he became famous? Being cast in Star Wars certainly did most of that. He doesn't enjoy being 3 feet tall, and he didn't ever enjoy the fact that he could only land certain roles because of it. Like what, he's not allowed to speak out against the exploitation of people such as himself just because he did the best with what life gave him?? That doesn't make any sense.

If Hollywood is still struggling to put men and women of darker complexion in lead roles, then I dont expect them to put anyone who isnt "able-bodied" in a leading man/leading lady role just yet. I'm just saying it's as shame the film industry isnt at a point where a leading man or woman role could go to someone with dwarfism. There are stories to be told, interesting stories, but disability is represented poorly on screen, often they are depicted as vulnerable and detached from society when in reality people with disabilities have to overcome adversity every day. So its either that sort of representation or is some sort of Oscar Winning tear-jerker (My Left Foot, for example or A Beautiful Mind.) Where are the rom coms featuring people with disabilities? The family drama? Hell I'd pay to see an autistic action hero on screen or a deaf martial artist.

It’s kind of awful for Chinese people to take a bunch of dwarves and put them together, make them act as fairies and fantastical creatures. It takes their value as humans and denies them a sense of normality. The key difference between Warwick and the performers is that Warwick has a normal life besides his acting career, whilst these Chinese little people literally live in mushroom-esque houses
