It was the best early quarantine viewing. Nothing makes this long time Gervais/Merchant/Pilkington fan laugh more than Ricky laughing and berating Karl while Stephen tries to let Karl continue to speak. *“OOoh Chimpanzee That MONKEY NEWS (y’ffk)!”*

@@ermencg1630 true to a point although the I dont even see it as a matter of not happening solely “because cancel culture” but rather Ricky and Stephen and Karl haven’t worked together since and it was of it’s time when Ricky was pushing Karl and Karl was up for it. For me it’s seeing Karl know Ricky and Stephen are having a laugh knowing anything Karl does is it’s charm, the whole show is Karl’s oddball spot on yet simultaneously also hilariously misinformed angle and limited knowledge but practical charisma, the mix of a genius idiot, or a dumb intellectual, he’s brilliant funny though. Plus Ricky is too busy with After Life and his stand up specials (rightly so) and doesn’t create with others as much anymore, maybe he’ll get the band back together and we can look forward to more fun from Karl and the gang. The show is only just a decade or so old now.

I still say, the best thing they ever did were the original shows on XFM, with just Ricky, Steve n Karl in room chatting, playing records and just having organic discussions...sometimes philisophical, sometimes comedic, sometimes complete gibberish, always entertaining.

I tried to binge watch season 1 + 2 recently but I had to stop on season 2 as I just started to feel bad for him. It is clear when watching these back to back that he was genuinely feeling the negative emotions he portrays during filming. He was suitably rewarded for his experiences but in the moment it is still a bit jarring. I’m a big fan of the series and I think it’s some of the best primetime television I ever watched when it came out but it’s a definite weekly watch for me.

When ricky gets serious about Karl being smart, you can tell he really means it; when he calls him a gormless twat, its just a passing remark for cheap laughs, and its funny, and Karl plays into it a little bit. Listen to podcasts where Ricky talks about Karl when he's not there. He sticks up for him like a true friend.

They do have square, or flat head cause a lot of Asian countries do no flip the babies when they are laying down, napping sleeping, cause they believe they can die, so they keep them for months flat on the crib causing the brain to grow to the sides instead of an elongated head like most humans have lol

It was the best early quarantine viewing. Nothing makes this long time Gervais/Merchant/Pilkington fan laugh more than Ricky laughing and berating Karl while Stephen tries to let Karl continue to speak. *“OOoh Chimpanzee That MONKEY NEWS (y’ffk)!”*

@@ermencg1630 true to a point although the I dont even see it as a matter of not happening solely “because cancel culture” but rather Ricky and Stephen and Karl haven’t worked together since and it was of it’s time when Ricky was pushing Karl and Karl was up for it. For me it’s seeing Karl know Ricky and Stephen are having a laugh knowing anything Karl does is it’s charm, the whole show is Karl’s oddball spot on yet simultaneously also hilariously misinformed angle and limited knowledge but practical charisma, the mix of a genius idiot, or a dumb intellectual, he’s brilliant funny though. Plus Ricky is too busy with After Life and his stand up specials (rightly so) and doesn’t create with others as much anymore, maybe he’ll get the band back together and we can look forward to more fun from Karl and the gang. The show is only just a decade or so old now.

I still say, the best thing they ever did were the original shows on XFM, with just Ricky, Steve n Karl in room chatting, playing records and just having organic discussions...sometimes philisophical, sometimes comedic, sometimes complete gibberish, always entertaining.

I tried to binge watch season 1 + 2 recently but I had to stop on season 2 as I just started to feel bad for him. It is clear when watching these back to back that he was genuinely feeling the negative emotions he portrays during filming. He was suitably rewarded for his experiences but in the moment it is still a bit jarring. I’m a big fan of the series and I think it’s some of the best primetime television I ever watched when it came out but it’s a definite weekly watch for me.

This is comedy gold. I've been a lot of these places and my interactions were much different to Karls. He is truly just himself even in the most awkard and intimidating situations. haha I can only respect that

Karl is the most naturally funny person in the world. They broke the mould after he was born. I was crying with laughter all through that video. Every time he opens his mouth something unique comes out.

When ricky gets serious about Karl being smart, you can tell he really means it; when he calls him a gormless twat, its just a passing remark for cheap laughs, and its funny, and Karl plays into it a little bit. Listen to podcasts where Ricky talks about Karl when he's not there. He sticks up for him like a true friend.

He even put Karl in a show called an idiot abroad...everyone knows it's all an act, but you said he never called him stupid so I accept your retraction. He picks up common things he sees, he is ignorant so there’s no malice. They do have square, or flat head cause a lot of Asian countries do no flip the babies when they are laying down, napping sleeping, cause they believe they can die, so they keep them for months flat on the crib causing the brain to grow to the sides instead of an elongated head like most humans have lol

I lived in China for a year with my wife (she’s Chinese) and I agree with a lot of what Karl says about China place is “weird” as hell, having said that the more touristy cities are pretty “normal”

Karl's comments about the pyramids were bang on. Whole place was filthy, full of hawkers, with the tourist police just staring on oblivious.
