American Tries Australian Fast Food | Hungry Jacks | Red Rooster | GYG | Noodle Box | Food Tour Vlog
You’ve probably wondered what kind of fast food restaurants are in Australia.I’m an American that has been living in here for 4 years. A big difference I noticed when moving here was the Australian fast food chains. In this video I will take you to each popular Australian fast food restaurant and talk about the differences between here and America.

GYG is owned by an American from New Mexico. GYG was started in sydney
I have just watched a few clips of Americans eating Aussie meat pies, is it just me but I’m Screaming at my iPad yelling “where’s the tomato sauce!” But I’m really glad non aussies are enjoying one of our favourite foods

Depending on the pie....tomato sauce or Worcesterhsire Sauce, or both!

If it's a good pie it doesn't need sauce 😊
that spring roll had the CRUNCH! WOW
Okay, so HJ's history from someone who worked there for 5 years. From memory this is correct, but if you want more than a summary look up Jack Cowan on Wikipedia. Burger King tried to come to Aus, but couldn't use their name here. Jack Cowan, the guy who it's named after licensed from Yum! There was an issue a while back bc Burger King tried to come back in and take over, but couldn't, Jack bought them out, and their contract still means he uses all their stuff as though a franchisee but he technically owns the Australian business. There was some legal shit in there that he won too, so we'll basically never see the Burger King name here on restaurants from what I recall, but eh. Also, we use eye bacon. It's the meatier bit of the bacon, that the US don't tend to use bc they use streaky bacon for the most part. Eye bacon is honestly more meaty and leaner, and better quality overall. You'll see eye bacon in most fish and chip shops, burger places. You tend to only need one piece per burger.

Also, the reason at HJ's you can't get certain things is either pure efficiency, or food safety. Like they won't give special sauces on the side because they don't come in their own sealed containers - like mayo for example And free refills used to be a thing but the machines would break down so much they were a safety hazard bc we were perpetually having to mop up syrup and water in the restaurant.

@@brentonbell1014 I'm not talking about the states am I. I'm talking about what we dealt with, which was sometimes having to cordon off a third of the restaurant bc of leaks, and mopping multiple times a day to try and get around it.
that pie would have to be the worst pie in australia

Bit of a fact about Hungry Jacks It actually was called Burger King but there was a small Burger shop called Burger King before the company came to Australia So due to the Australian Copyright laws they had to change the name So we technically have Burger King, it’s just a change in name but is owned by Burger King
Fun fact the noodle box, box can be unfolded and used as the plate for the noodles:)
the burrito looks good, very yummy
As an Australian nearing 60, I can confirm Maccas and HJs have absolutely no idea what bacon is. That crap they put in the burgers, it's barely ham, not bacon. Tough, chewy, I'm guessing it's cheap, and 'the customer ' won't notice. We'll, I do. And I don't eat that crap anymore. I get burgers from my corner fish and chip shop, or make them myself. And all you got from Red Rooster was some crappy fried chicken? Red rooster is all about the roast chicken. The best chicken. Damn... And 7-11, geez, you only eat from there when you are drunk or stoned.
Hey you forgot Oporto’s 😂
Love GYG, Zambreros and Noodle Box.
Heaps of mexican people up in Brisbane. Beautiful people and culture
Fun fact, you can get GYG in Chicago US. They’re slowly opening in the US.

An "aussie meat pie" in a sealed bag ! I think not. From 7-11.....that says it all. Where is this ? That "burrito" looks similar to a kebab in Australia. Where is this food available ? I've only seen Red Rooster so far. Problem with takeaway is it's cold by the time you get it home.
Whilst I did agree with folks who complained that Red Rooster were trying to copy KFC when they added their fried options, I’ll admit they’re pretty good lol Also do legit like the gravy bites from HJs GYG is my hangover go to lol My friends call Zambrero “Mexican if it was run by fitness junkies”

7:40 there’s not many Mexicans here however there’s a decent amount of Latino’s here especially in Brisbane. Im el Salvadorian and we have quite a large “family” here, I also meet a lot of other latinos around to the point I’m genuinely surprised but again barely any Mexicans🤣
GYG stomps taco Bell it is so much better and about the hot sauce they dont have it BUT you can have a spicy oil which makes your taco taste absolutely divine
Thanks for the video, but I have to disagree as an American living in Sydney for a few years now... GYG is more Tex Mex than authentic Mexican food. It's much better than Taco Bell (which is here in Australia now and not really the same as in the US). The best fast food in Sydney is definitely 5 Guys. It's just like in the states except no peanuts! I was so happy when one opened here, though. Also, we are supposed to be getting Wendy's, so I'd like to see how different it will be.
did you find it hard to adapt to Australia's different driving compared to America when you moved here?

They have less fats and more nutrients, but depending on the restaurant or meal, it can have more kilojoules (kj is round the same as kcal). The chips t McDonald’s are vegan in australia, and there’s way more healthy options. So I’d say, yes. I have fast food about 2 or 3 times a week and I only fan abt 4kg every 3 or so months.
