"Let's reinvent the game and include throwing the ball." Fun fact: They actually did, during WW2, inventing a sport called "Austus" where NFL-style throwing was legal and catching off a throw counted as a mark. It was invented so US soldiers in Australia could play against the Aussies.

US soldiers occupied the MCG during WWII, probably had a game on the ground!
It's great to see Sav back at Collingwood.

It’s just great to see SAV full stop!!!😅
Sav is a Collingwood legend, kicking 60 metres plus for goal was nothing for Sav. Go Pies.....
This is great. Getting more people involved in our game
Need to do another one with a better variety of highlights. Team goals and flow of play so he can get a better idea of it
The big Savaloy! What a great full forward. One of the games best!
Sav, a Magpie LEGEND.
It hurt me watching so many bloody pies highlights but I love seeing people get exposed to AFL for the first time! Hate the club but love the content nice work.
This is the best explanation of the greatest game there is....iam a 🦁 fan
Afl is cross country ballet and rugby is cross country wrestling😂 Love em both!
Apparently It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Go Eagles
that goal from Checkers was so unreal
I don't know if it's the official term, but when I was in high school we called it "soccering" when someone would kick the ball in Aussie Rules off the ground or in the air instead of from their hands after having caught it.
That's a cool vid. Nice to see you back Sav
Great to see Sav the punter cleaning out that kick returner. He didn't see that one coming!
G'day. It was good to see somebody able to explain various aspects of the game while you did the reaction.
I reckon Sav would make a great commentator for Americans who are especially watching it for the first time

Sav should stick to jaffles
Love the short-shorts!!!❤
He has no idea about the running and skill involved. They could have shown so many big hits and great marks. He lacked a feel for sport for somebody involved with professional footy. Having to ask why Josh Daicos's goal was good was a dumb question. I'm not a hurling fan but I can appreciate their skill when I watch a snippet. Same with soccer or Rugby League.

Not a dumb question considering how many NFL KZread videos with experts explaining WR's route running maps, mesh play, what are tightends, cornerbacks, linebackers I had to watch just to understand the calculus of it all.

Just needed to show a play from centre bounce with it all involved, tap, handpass, bounce, kick into the 50, mark goal Ez
That was fun to watch! Sav still in great shape!
Great stuff!
We were recently talking about the late Darren Milane and everything he could have been
As an American, Sav should have mentioned Mason Cox there, since he was in a couple of those plays. He should sit down with Dave and get Dave to also watch the rules video as well. Dave would get a huge kick out of it (pun intended)!
@SilentHotdog28

He would get a huge 'Punt' out of it? haha.
Realy should have showed more run down tackles and probably explain that you cannot tackle someone that doesnt have possesion of the ball ie: the Josh Daicos goal
As a wrestling fan, I had no idea about that Hulk Hogan clip lmao
MCG fits about 105 thousand people... Dave: "what's that in imperial" lol
"So this is AFL football". First three minutes are Sav highlights.
That was great Dave and Sav! Go Blues!
Sav back at home. Where he should be.
I reckon Sav did a great job explaining AFL.
I love big sav from a north fan
Geez Sav could flush 'em. There's hardly a player in the comp these days that can kick it as far as him as his brother once did.

The Rocca Brothers were absolutely gifted with canons
G'day Sav, I saw you at the Yea supermarket a couple of years ago. I was like, that bloke looks bloody familiar (I'm not Collingwood), then your NFL T-shirt confirmed it for me.
love the NFL alliance for the pies as a pies and a cowboys fan it's hard to see it with the eagles. lol
Sav “Super Boot” Rocca GO PIES!
god he's like one of those blokes that pretends to listen to what you say but asks you questions about what you've explained already 5 minutes later
Sav. We like you a lot..
On yaaa Sav.
That first kick is fucking massive
Good on yer, Sav. I have barracked for the Eagles since NFL was first shown, that I know of, back in the 1980s. That makes me a fan, of sorts, of you however I have been a Richmond barracker since I was 4 years old in early 1957. (Please don't hold that against me). I am pretty sure I saw some of a couple of games you played with the Eagles.
Rocca took a few hits out on the field during his career. He's a battered Sav.

I think the video 'This is AFL' on YT .would be a good intro
Sav is a footy legend.
Sav was a Gun!!
it seems really similar to netball but with a tackle option
i feel dirty for liking this video

Big Sav!
probably should have given him an intro to the game first 🤣
Sav did a great job explaining footy. Not frustrating.
So SAV, that game against NORF. I have questions
Hey Sav, what’s with the Eagles shirt?
@harleyhunt6073

That's a Philly Eagles shirt, I.E Whom this commentator commentates for & where Sav played for 4 years.
Now you and your brother have to teach him how to make a ham and cheese toastie.
A couple of Italian boys talking with their hands ! Separated by a so-called common language, a couple of generations in the New World and a couple of oceans but still a couple of Italian boys talking with their hands. I hope you keep a minute's silence for Bob Murphy's knee, Sav. Listen to the accents. Is it any wonder that USA and Aus are so close ? It's our families, we all have American distant cousins. Our 2 geat countries.
Does AFL do a throwback weekend? Don’t think they do but how good would it be. Old school Jerseys and even the old umpire outfits.
@guyfaux3978
Ай бұрын
They COULD get rid of Indigenous Round guernseys while they're at it.
Lolz Savaloi showing off his own highlights.
I'm wondering if the reason I heard about why AFL umpires wear white coats and hats, goes back to the time of the Victorian Gold rush is true. Also, that the game was developed to be played in the winter by the various nationalities on the goldfields, and that's why some of the game's rules include elements of Gaelic Football. I was told that nobody could decide who would be neutral enough to be the umpires, so it was decided to use the cricket umpires, who came equipped with their own cricket umpire uniforms of white coats and hats. I just thought of it, but could AFL use an oval to play on, because back in the 1800's along with co-opting the Cricket umpires the already existing Cricket ovals weren't being used in the winter.
Recommend watching What is AFL?
If we threw the ball it wouldn't be Football, it would be Handball. It's your sport that has it backwards.
I’ve watched a bunch of videos of non-Aussies reacting to AFL and I’m left wondering… why do they all at some point end up saying “Essington?”
An America bewildered you cant throw the ball in a game called football is so on brand
Sat should’ve shown him the intro to AFL videos first. His explanations were ordinary.
If you are a fan of Australian Rules Football, you are a 'Barracker'. [When it was The British Colony of Victoria, the British Army had 'The Victoria Barracks'. It's thought that they played a couple of seasons in the then VFL/now AFL. Supporters or 'barrackers' can sit together. There is NO segregation in AFL.
Warning the umpires suck .
Yeah, but Malcolm Bl8ght can kick the ball 85 metres.🤔🤔🤔
Surely "Speckie" is simply an Australianism for a "spectator mark"?

I hate Collingwood but Sav was an extremely long kicker of the ball

I don't understand why NFL allows you to throw the ball. Let's evolve the game where you can't.
@user-kr4sm2iv7e

I grow up playing Aussie rules all my life and also player for East Perth, which is league level, and have also been a 49ers fan since the days of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice era the throw from the Quarter back is integral to the game and to try and get rid of this would destroy it also requires many skills, reading the play wide receivers line blocking protection within the pocket wide receivers running their asignment routes a powerful arm with accuracy and decision making under extreme pressure it would not evolve the game but completely ruin it.

@@user-kr4sm2iv7e Dude. I was making a sarcastic comment about the guy in the reaction video asking why you just can't just throw the ball in Aussie Rules. He literally says Aussie Rules needs to evolve the game by allowing throwing. I too grew up playing Aussie Rules and also watch NFL.

I love Sav, but he did a terrible job here haha. Also they could have used some better examples
Introduce jim to the best rugby hits and watch him cringe.
This is why Aussies call Nfl a girl's sport
Gay aerial Ping Pong
No highlights when it comes to Collingwood
Gotta be the worst explanation of afl I’ve ever witnessed
Hate Collingwood. Love Sav tho.
You’re being fooled. Highlights reels won’t show you how frikkin boring this sport is and what imposters they are. As kids we play a game in the backyard called “forcing back.” Anyone who’s ever played that can play the sport. Check out the NRL if you want to see a tough sport This stuff is rubbish and only popular because it’s a cultural thing.
@russe19642

NRL tough 😂😂😂 nearly all NRL players now have the same build as Aussie rules players except most are shorter, your best five players are no way near the average sized AFL and saying AFL isn't tough just shows you've never played it. NRL has one contact gets up plays the ball,in AFL it's constant contact,NRL players would puff out in five minutes 😂😂
@stevewren1079

You’re delusional. Not worth rebuttal.
Possibly the worst collection of highlights to show a noob that I’ve ever seen
For an absolute legend of the game which Sav was; he really explained our game pretty poorly lol
It's pity no one has told the umpires you can't throw the ball.
Not a bad footballer, but the sav is total shit at explaining the game. He even confused me ffs
No one cares
"It's a mark"!!! Sav come teach these modern commentators. Sick of hearing grab.😊 🖤🤍🖤🤍
