The customer was Ronnie Corbett, the shopkeeper was Harry Enfield (you saw him in the sketch about women). Ronnie Barker (who was the other Ronnie) has already passed away. The sketch was in his style and it was tribute to him. And yes, Harry was trying to keep his face straight when Ronnie was talking about his dongle.

The corpsing in sketches is always an unexpected delight.
For clarity, ORANGE was a cellphone network similar to Vodaphone/ Verizon etc. that might the joke make a little more sense. They were bought out and ceased trading around 2015. Ronnie Corbett teamed up with Harry Enfield for this charity sketch . Both Ronnie’s have now sadly passed away.

Dongles are still very prevalent in the Apple world.. as they love removing our favourite ports all the time.. see the 3.5mm headphones jack for details
Brilliant reaction. Orange was a UK phone network. Black-spots are areas without signal, and a dongle is a USB flash drive 😅 It amazes me that there's never a wasted word in their scripts like this, every single element is and innuendo and delivered perfectly on screen.

No a dongle is a passthrough device not a USB stick (flash drive). There was an Apple dongle (after this was filmed) that was used on the audio port when Apple removed the jack plug, so people needed a lightning port to jack plug dongle to use their headphones/earphones. Dongles were also used for adding wifi connections as is the case here.

A Dongle was a Wi-Fi enabled device to access mobile internet back in the early 2000’s, it was about the size of a USB Drive, with a micro USB cable connection. You could plug it into a Laptop or Desk Top to get a pay as you go mobile internet connection.

A dongle is really any add-on accessory about the size and form factor of what we now know more commonly as things like USB flash drives that you plug into a computer, regardless of type of plug/socket used. It can be a passthrough device used like an adapter or a fully-functioning device in its own right, such as a port adapter like PHDarren is talking about or a mobile internet accessory like Matt Smith gave an example of.

My favourite *Harry Enfield* characters rarely get reacted to, as like with most things, the best ones get forgotten. They include: *Harry and Lulu, Tim Nice But Dim, The Old Gits, The Scousers, The Slobs, The Self-Righteous Brothers* and the most popular of all *Kevin and Perry.* *Harry and Lulu* (which has a 9 minute compilation on KZread) are based on Harry's former step-children, the actor *Alfie Allen* and the singer *Lily Allen.*

The problem we have is the accents don't carry well across the pond or the lingo, reactors spend too much of the video trying to understand them and then end up asking what so and so was etc which often can be a blow to the funniest parts. Some accents are easier to understand but not the ones that are very broad.

Love Harry and Lulu. The table sketch being my favourite. I had no idea they were based on Alfie and Lily Allen! The Old Gits are hilarious too. I seem to remember a sketch with aliens in it who just ran around, pointing at stuff as they learned the words for them, which I also found funny. The Green Grocer playing opposite Ronnie Corbett is Harry Enfield. You’ve reacted to his “Women know you limits” sketch he is a comedy legend.
This comes from a show called The One Ronnie and it was made after Ronnie B had died and had other UK comedians or comedy actors filling his role. My favourite bit is Harry having to take a moment before replying to Ronnie C about the dongle otherwise he'd have cracked up. I'm glad they left that in rather than reshooting it.

The original dongles were a security device. With expensive software, to prevent bootleg copying you would also get a bit of hardware that plugged into a serial port ant the software would occasionally 'look' for it and if it could not find it it would halt the software. they lasted until someone figured out virtual ports that could pretend to have the dongle connected,

A dongle in it's true original sense was a small USB device that was used as a plug in device that acted as an unlocker/enabler for expensive software or to unlock high security PCs (usually on a lanyard around a bank tellers neck). The term became more loosely used to describe USB thumb drives, USB Bluetooth adaptors and any other small self-contained USB plug in devices.

I had a dongle that was pre-usb! It attached to the parallel port on your PC (when you had a parallel port)!! Again this was a security device for Cubase, the software wouldn't start without the dongle.
A dongle is a play on words with what you mentioned however it is a USB Drive. The play on the word was deliberate
Loved this it’s amazing
The customer was Ronnie Corbett. A dongle is like a USB stick that grants additional functionality or access to a protected system. Before computers had built in WIFI there were WIFI dongles.

Love this lmao. Just showed my Scottish family who I'm visiting in BALTIMORE from London

Dongle is what attachments for computers and mobiles were called before smartphones became ubiquitous. Also this is a relaunch of the original 1970s series in the 2000s, only one of the Ronnie's present here, the other being Harry Enfield, I presume it's after the other Ronnie had died

When Ronnie Corbett mentions about the Orange having a few black spots, He was referring to the Orange Phone Network, No matter where you was in the UK, even when you was standing on top of a hill, under a Orange Network Phone Mast, It was still hard to get a signal on your phone, 3 Network was even worse, 🇬🇧L🤣L👍🏼

I don't know if you ever had Orange as a mobile phone network in America. If not, that's what the trying it on Orange reference was.
This is the 1 Ronnie. Unfortunately the larger one (Ronnie Barker) passed away in 2005. The other guy in this sketch is Harry Enfield who did 'Harry Enfield and Chums'. Another great comedy.
The two ronnies were like the British laural and hardy of their time. They are comedy icons from the 70s/80s period. Classic ild fashioned polite comedy thst all family members could watch comfortably at Christmas without anyone getting upset. Not overly controversial. But the two Ronnies are looked back at with great fondness in Britain like two old grand fathers. They were the original Harry Enfield and Paul white house or Hale and Pace etc.
You have to do the Two Ronnies Mastermind its a owrd play classic. The crossword sketch is great too.
A dongle is a hardware attachment. In the past they were made to fit the serial port and came as protection against piracy. No dongle - no software. Most dongles now fit the USB port and again, is mostly used as copy protection.
You have to react to "HARRY ENFIELD AND CHUMS" so so funny!! Especially the Kevin and Perry characters, they even made a Kevin and Perry film they were that popular.

sometimes, sadly, films made using popular comedy duos don't won't too well. I thought the Kevin and Perry film was very poor, as was the 1966 'Riviera Touch' with Morecombe & Wise
A dongle is a small piece of computer hardware that connects to a port on another device to provide it with additional functionality, or enable a pass-through to such a device that adds functionality.
The two ronnies famous sketches are "Four Candles" and "mastermind"
There were "DONGLES" for some specialized programs (Apps) like "QuarkXPress", a layout program. Almost everything was done in "QuarkXpress" 1989-1999 (newspapers, ads, magazines, etc). You had to put the physical "dongel" and insert it into the computers (often a MAC) physical INTERFACE. Back then it was a round empty opening located on the back or the side of the PC/MAC. Today is known as an USB-port. The DONGLE had to stay in, for the whole, long time, to be able to access the software. Then you were good, once it was in. You could build a layout, choose a bigger FONT or insert pages from other documents - INTO your own document.
Every time King says "boomerangs" I can't get the wording "Boomer Aang" out of my head and I just see an old avatar
I made this as a recommended view in the comments in the last 2 Ronnie's video you made! The other chap is Harry Enfield. Check out some Harry Enfield and chums stuff from the 90's, its great.
This was a sketch that was supposed to modernise the "Four Candles" one. The sort of shop in which "Four Candles" was set- selling not only hardware and ironware but also shoes, clothing and tinned peas- was already starting to look old-fashioned when it was filmed in 1976. This does bring it somewhat more into the 21st Century- helped in no short measure by the much older Ronnie Corbett as a deliberate throwback to the original- but, as you say, the BlackBerry is not something that people have now, so it too is starting to look antiquated and will likely be as baffling to the next generation that comes up as the "Four Candles" sketch appears to you at the moment.

A dongle is a UK word for a UsB stick
A dongle was a USB stick that connected to wifi before laptops had built in Wi-Fi receivers
This is a later sketch after Ronnie Barker passed away... It is a tribute to the original sketch called 'Four Candles' which is one of the famous skits from the 2 Ronnies comedy show. Its hilarious
Two Ronnies - Crossed lines is another one with classic two ronnies wordplay
This was more a tribute to the Two Ronnie from years ago, Ronnie Corbett sadly died in 2016 he was much loved as a comedy actor for over forty years.
Two Ronnie's is an absolute UK classic. Sadly both guy have passed away
A dongle is a device that plugs into a computer that serves as an ADAPTER or a security measure. As such, if you use the iPhone charging cable to attach the iPhone to your laptop to transfer data, it would be considered a dongle of sorts.
For the benefit of people that don't know this was a Christmas Special called :'The One Ronnie' and starred Ronnie Corbett in various sketches of which this was one. I can't remember the year but it was after Ronnie Barker passed away. Hence the title 'The One Ronnie' This was a brilliant sketch and I've always regarded this as a modern day 'Four Candles' Brilliant!!🤣🤣
Dongles were a name people gave for USB flash drives for a while but obviously there's the double meaning that you're thinking of
That was ONE RONNIE.
The other Ronnie sadly passed , Harry Enfied played his role. Im sure it was for comic relief (a money raising annual TV event for charity). A dongle is a USB device that stores information.. you may call it a pen drive across the pond.

Funnily enough, Comic Relief was an American thing that we copied a few years later. Theirs stopped for some reason, but ours kept going. Probably because it was on BBC and every school and scout, brownie groups etc get involved.
A dongle is a hardware key. Today it would go into a USB port, years back they went in serial or parallel ports. You'd be issued it by a software company to be able to use the software on only 1 machine. This was before they insisted you have an internet connection to launch certain applications [ checking whether you were the original license holder ] Graphics companies often had, say, 10 different computers all loaded with, say, Quark xPress but only paid for 2 licenses.... so they would have 2 dongles - plug them into the 2 machines they were currently wanting to use the Application on.
The BlackBerry on Orange gag doesn't work these days, because the mobile phone network company Orange has be absorbed / rebranded. Orange was a big brand, back in the day. A dongle is a reference to a device that used to be used to license computer software; the software would refuse to run, unless it saw a dongle with a valid license key on it plugged in, either in the USB port or (very old fashioned) a parallel printer port (25pin D connector, not seen on PCs for 20 years). They fell out of favour, because it was too easy to modify the software to ignore the lack of a dongle. Dongle also can mean a USB WiFi stick. And of course, in British English, where almost any word can a euphemism, dongle is a prime candidate. This sketch was a hommage to the famous Four Candles sketch Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett (the small guy here) did, which for those of us of a certain vintage gave this sketch an extra frisson of enjoyment!
British comedy is on a whole other level in my opinion because we take the micky out of everything and everyone. If you can't laugh at yourself then turn and laugh at someone else. These are sketches which would be in an episode of The Two Ronnies. Ronnie Barker was the best comedian I have seen his timing his straight face while everyone else around you is howling. The amount of shows he not only written but also stared in Comedy is needed laughter is needed so badly now. I've seen all these clips you are reacting to and I am laughing with you at something that is set in my life cornerstones watching it fresh through you brings those times back
Dongle is the receiver which plugs into your pc to receive the signal fro a wireless peripheral ie a wireless keyboard / mouse etc 👌
Ronnie and harry classic masters at work 🤣🤣🤣👏👏🏴
This was after Ronnie Barker had died I think. It is quaint old humour, clever play on words which the Two Ronnie did so well.
Also not sure the American audience would not get thr beginning when they said they would try the Blackberry on Orange. Orange was a mobile phone network like AT&T , Now EE. Also a dongle dongle is a small piece of computer hardware that connects to a port on another device to provide it with additional functionality, or enable a pass-through to such a device that adds functionality😂😂😂
A dongle is essentially a portable USB device that behaves like a small modem. You might hear it called other names, like internet stick, USB modem or USB network adapter. They all mean the same thing. Just plug a dongle into your computer's USB port and you'll get instant internet access, no software necessary. 🇬🇧😎👍🏼
To me, nothing beats their Irish Pub sketch.
Orange: early UK mobile-phone network (d 2015 due to takeovers) started by Hong Kong company. Enormously popular at the time
The Two Ronnies Irish Pub is a great one too 😊
This was a sketch from a show called The One Ronnie, with Ronnie Corbett with comedy guests.Sadly,Ronnie Barker had died some years before (2005?). Equally sad was that Ronnie Corbett himself, died not long after this show,in 2016
This comic sketch is a remake of a classic Two Ronnie’s comic sketch from the 1970. It was remain and updated about 2009 for ‘The One Ronnie’, a one-off comedy television sketch show that aired on BBC One on Christmas Day 2010 to celebrate the 80th birthday of Ronnie Corbett. Ronnie Barker, the other half of the ‘Two Ronnie’s’ having died in October 2005. The role Ronnie Barker from the original sketch was played by Harry Enfield, who wrote, did the voice over, acted in, the comic sketch ‘Women know your limits’, from his own BBC TV show. Which you reacted to some weeks ago.
Harry Enfield was the guy in the Women Know Your Limits clip you reacted to. Dongle is a USB stick
It could be a flash drive . . But the term is manly used for a usb data stick used to connect to the internet
Good job KB👏👏👍
Never heard of a dongle? Oh thanks bud! I feel so old lol
For the orange joke, there use to be a cell phone network in the UK called Orange. They've been bought out. As for the dongle, it's UK speak for something you plug into a computer like a USB Pen Drive or a Wireless Receiver.
