Charles V is a very interesting personality: not only was he Emperor of the HRE and KING OF Spain, he was also heir to the Byzantine imperial crown. The Byzantine, or Eastern Roman Empire had fallen in 1453 and the original heir to the throne had sold his claim to Philip of Spain - Charles' father.

Frederick the 2nd of the Staufers, also known as "the amazement of the world" Stupor Mundi, is one of the most interesting emperors and personalities of the Middle Ages!

As a History fan and someone who has visited Germany on many occasions, I always get a kick out of the fact that the Holy Roman Empire was dissolved on my birthday, August 6th.

I am an archaeologist and historian and also German. And on my KZread channel last year I published three parts of German history that deal precisely with the period. Just to explain: the Holy Roman Empire was an elective monarchy. But the reigning monarch had the right to nominate his successor. As a rule, it was his son, who still had to be elected. But in fact this is how a dynastic system emerged.

There was a good recent movie about Emperor Maximilian worth watching. He was the last Medieval HRE.

Famous Schwabians in history are the two army officers Erwin Rommel and Claus von Stauffenberg, both Catholic, an essential factor worthy of a video by itself if just anyone understood.

There is no connection between beard and barbarian. Barbar is onomatopoeic ancient Greek and means something like "babbler" as a designation for people who did not speak Greek.

Emperor Otto I was the first HRE from 962. Charlemagne from 800 and his descendants were Carolingians. An elected Emperor was unique, kept the Emperor weak compared his barons or the Pope. The Electors of the HRE were the precedent to our Electoral college.

there was no Charlemagne (thats a later ahistorical localized name, taken from the English from the French). His real name was Karl (latin: Karolus Magnus) and all historic texts, all other languages refer to a Karl/Carl - no one to a Charlemagne. Also every architecture at that time and later referred to Karls/Carls. If people would stop to copy-paste brainless this wrong name, history became much more comprehensable (also if one would change it to the GErmanic real names, because we talk about Germanic dynasties - because one could see the relations much better AND also the meaning of those names etc.). Also Carolingians refers not to Charles ...

"the word barbarian (barbarus) was "made up of barba (beard) and rus (flat land)" so yeah Romans totally associated having a beard as being a dirty stinky barbarian thing 😂🤣😅
