    If you've ever wondered what Shadow's "light" is, I made a video breaking down a popular theory about this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jKZkp6uakcSZpdo.html Also, if you want to pick up the novel American Gods and help support my channel. Here is a link that will send me a little something at no extra charge to you. It's the same price as the normal listing: amzn.to/30aqy5Y A link for Gaiman's novel Anansi Boys, that follows Mr. Nancy's sons: amzn.to/2vRYiao And a link for the Gaiman short story collection "Fragile Things" which includes "The Monarch of the Glen", a story that follows Shadow after the events of American Gods: amzn.to/2Q1ow3l . Thanks!

    Definitely my favorite episode this season. The exchange between the three African Gods and their debate on whether to be involved in this war was AMAZING. The discussion between Odin and Shadow about "money" as a concept...Great! The scene where the CEO finds inspiration to integrate what he was forced to learn (Bach) with his love of technology and how his father, representative of the "old" way of thinking (Old Gods maybe) was cool also. This is such a great show, it makes you think, doesn't spell everything out, gives you a lot of angles to consider.

    Wait, I thought this episode had a big set up. I got the impression the African gods have decided to make their own faction. Meaning Odin is now even more precarious than before as their agenda is not aligned to his. They will fight, but what they'll fight for is completely different to Odin and so the possibility of switching sides to Mr World is possible. I am glad they gave the African gods some agency in this and not simply Odin followers (remember the phrase - "I was old in the desert when they sacrificed the first horse to you" Bilquist to Odin)

    @@jmx988 I've watched a couple of these reviews/recaps and they all missed that Anansi gave a Killmonger type speech here. Another channel pretended the "new slavery" we all have to go through, when it's a direct ref to the incarceration rate of black people. Anansi has been angry a long time and now he's getting his fellow African gods riled up as well. (I hope that's the direction the show will go) a third faction to screw the two up now. And yes Neil Gaimon has already said the show is different to the book.

    Calling this man's rhetoric a rant is, what I shall say, disrespectful. The definition of rant is "speak or shout at length in a wild, impassioned way." nothing in that "rant" was wild. If anything he was fuming but yet it was very smoldering in Anansi's case. He possess so much more energy I feel like but withholds alot of it back, to be in a more controlling manner. Great job Orlando, I tips my hat off to you my man.

    And also the reason Bilquis was complementing Jesus is because of his true nature being hidden from his followers so well. The man find a new way to gain more followers than any other God beside money in this case. The man is black but depicted as white, he was a rebel but shown not to be. He was killed because he upset powerful people, but he died from for our sins. Like Easter in this case, and what Bilquis trying to do is stay in power but in different ways. Kinda matches with the over arcing theme of the series don't ya think? R.i.p Nipsey

    By far my most favourite episode of this season, some powerful performances (Anansi, Ibis, Belquis). To me American Gods is a series of metaphor, ambiguity, concepts- it is more of a series that creates discussion than it will ever be about action and so on. It is meant to be wordy and slow, and for those reasons it will not be for everyone.

    This was my favorite episode. Honestly my highlight was the conference of African gods. Mortal Ruby G. is especially powerful in that symbolism. Biliquis questioning her was a beautiful scene. And no true Christian should be offended by what Bilquis said. We are taught that Jesus challenged the status quo of his time. That was part of The Mission to reconcile man to God. Jesus challenged the religious leaders of His time- the Pharisees and Sadducees wanted exclusive control over man’s connection to his or her inherent spirituality. Why people of African descent worship Jesus instead of the African gods is complicated. We are connected to Spirit through the ancient ties and hardships endured over human history. In America we arrived (most of us) as slaves. Our DNA was merged, our culture erased. We are Africans in appearance but unfortunately not in substance. And that’s not good or bad it simply is our history. Mr. Nancy is not bad in what he said, he spoke the truth. The racial divide among gods is there. It is not yet proven that a Norse god will avenge an African god. But they are now in a war because first blood was shed. Thoth says he chooses peace for that reason. But peace, as Anansi says, has a price. 😘

    Ananci’s monologue gave a true look into the why. He even made points on the prejudice surrounding the cultures that gave birth to Wednesday and xaria and zchernoborg ( sorry for the spelling ). The anger and despair he expressed causing him to drop his American accent is a testament to how deeply he cares for the African descendants in this country. I wish more time was spent breaking down tht Ananci pointed out the ethnicity issue amongst the gods.

    I agree. I think it's important to realize Gaiman's points here. He is capturing walking essences. And as such I find it impossible, futile and ignorant to say this was blasphemous. Gods are many things, but at their very core, they are the intangible embodiment of our faith. As a Christian myself, I see G-d and his Son as multifaceted, because they are. G-d himself is three in one. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And each represents Him at the core of His omnipresence and omnipotence. And you know, He is something different on a personal level. Gaiman portrays that brilliantly in his many representations of gods and demons. I really hope people understand that. :)

    Jesus is a savior to some and a rebel to others (well, he was crucified because of politics). Although I'm Christian, I always understand Laura's view as an atheist, as I, at some point of my life, got lost. Now, I understand that I follow Jesus not for His godly traits, but because of His wisdom, teaching, and, most importantly, His humanity.

    Read "How Jesus Became God" by New Testament historian Bart Ehrman. He gives a pretty detailed evidence-based argument as to how Jesus became deified after death and was originally just another trouble maker who thought he was the Messiah (human being who was chosen by god to bring forth his kingdom within his lifetime). People don't generally give up their beliefs that easy - even when their prophet literally is killed - so the narrative had to change to fit and thus a new religion was born....

    I think Tech Boy is going to upgraded to new version if we look at the words of Mr. World when he talked to Wednesday at the money scene; Digital age is here and old Tech Boy is having hard time control it(Argus fiasco and cannot show new things to CEO) because he is belong to older tech generation(first computer, first progamming languages etc).

    In the parking lot of Xio Comm. There is the phrase"Somewhere in America". And about Techboy, I think he got overwritten because he upset Mr. World and he was as Mr. World referred at when he bought the candy from the scout girls" retired". I believe we will see a new Techgod, but it will be played by the same actor and the reason of this is the birth place and the" First believer" the CEO" and we know so far that he made the image of the techboy based on young Bach Image. One more thing I would like, I think the CEO first name is Ken. Well, the show is way different than the novel its like a new version of the book. I can't wait to see how will the show progresses.

  • @EvilGamerCrowley
    @EvilGamerCrowley5 жыл бұрын

    Wow there are too many things to talk about. 1-The birth of Tech Boy 2-We finally saw Bastet 3-Money's appearance. I think he might be Pluotos from Greek Mythology the literal personification of wealth. In Aristophanes' play Pluotos even the Gods are powerless against Pluotos as we see that Odin and Mr. World were trying their best to enlist him. 4-Anansi and his stories. Bilquis and Thoth seem to be finally joining the war. Thoth was very passive and it would be nice to see the Book of Thoth. 5-When Tech Boy mentioned this upgraded version of Argus I immediately thought of the creator of Tech Boy. 6-Kali's actress is amazing and we might see her brutal side 7-The interaction between Tech Boy and CEO was great. Tech Boy really seemed to care about him. 8-Anansi's amazing speech enlisted the new African Gods. However, Anansi is a trickster God we should not forget about that. (Odin does not forget about betrayal and Bilquis might end up as a sacrifice) 9-Shadow's name not being on the list is a hugeeee foreshadowing to his real identity. Annndd even though Shadow looks very dumb he is not that dumb and he might find out about his real identity. 10-Tech Boy's futile effort to escape. I think there won't be a new Tech Boy but this CEO will become the new Tech Boy and probably much more stronger. The ouroboros symbol was a big foreshadowing regarding this. I loved this episode it focused more on the Gods and it contained a lot of things for the progression of the plot.

    I'm pretty sure Shadow is Balder. Last week's episode really clenched it when the trickster gave the Jin that plant cutting along with Odin's spear. In the original myth Balder was killed by mistletoe when Loki tricked his brother into using a Lance made of it. Balder was said to shine, to give off light. He died & was trapped in Hel ( Loki's doing again) I think the visions he has of the mountains of skulls are him remembering the Underworld. Odin wants him to remember who he is & be reborn? Still trying to figure out what the Buffalo represents- possibly the first god brought to America by neolithic hunter gatherers that eventually became Native Americans. I think the god of money will be a Hindu god. Soma was the clue in the book.

The word itself means gratitude and at the same time is also a surname (but then again there are many homophones in Chinese so there are many other words with the xie sound) . This might have something to do with the CEO returning a favour to Tech Boy? But then again Xie is a somewhat common Chinese surname, so it might have been chosen randomly lol
