You absolutely butchered bilquis this last season. You fired orlando jones and did him completely dirty, and thought you could write black or empowering characters without him and just churned out some contrived nonsense. Shame on you.

Spoilers ahead It was really was disastrous. Part of what made Bilquis great was her unapologetic expression of sexuality. The rewritten version of her as acting only through the will and reflection of her followers desires is the most disempowering thing you could do to a queer feminine character. I knew this season had a big potential to be bad, but wow. The only gem was Deméter coming to America.

@@jeanvalentin5998 well she did say from the start or at least from the beginning of season 2 that it was necessary to adapt to survive. I think it links to what Mr Nancy said - he said that she was a queen with the gift of creation and rebirth but that kings kept taking from her. Her connection to water is seen to be a connection to new life and creation, and then when 'the kings' tried to undermine her by branding her as being part demon and tried to make her power dependent on sex and desire, it took her original identity away from her but it ultimately didn't work because she was still empowered by it and kept going as a powerful goddess. In any case remember her followers in the orgy scene were liquified and basically returned to her so it wasn't too far away from the direction they chose to take the story. Sort of like the compromise mr Nancy said you had to use to get by in when he told her story. I think he knows about who she was before, it just wasn't the part of the story he was telling that day (he knows all the stories in the world). She always looked regal and in control before but I thought she looked more at peace with herself as well as still looking regal after she remembered. I wonder how the actress felt about the revelation of her character? In any case the dancing scenes still seems to be a case of unapologetic expression of her body, both her control over it and the joy and power she's expressing by dancing.
