I love this review. I'm not tech savvy at all but was clearly able to follow the points they were making!

It IS great, if you use it for its intended purpose. It is not an IPad (I have one). It is not a game machine. It is.a Kindle reader that can also do other stuff. It has a memory card, so you can load it up with books, movies, and music. If you are away from WiFi or are on a plane for Manila you will still never run out of things to see, hear, or do.

Hi, So i'm looking to maybe purchase one for my mother. Here eyesight is poor, so when shes in bed she liked to watch some youtube. Would you suggest it? Pretty much that's all I need it for? Reading news sites are hard for me unless I am wearing my bifiocals, then there is no problem. KZread works well. Everything just takes a few seconds to load.

@@psychicsara watching KZread on my Fire tablet right now! There is an app that takes you to the KZread web site. Works fine if you are just consuming media. Not so great for creating content. Not sure why you feel that it’s garbage. I have an iPad Air and an iPad Mini, and my Fire tab is just as good for watching movies or reading books. With it’s ear phone jack it is even better for music. Not so great for games and work, but that is not what it is for.

I got one for college! I have a paper white but I am using the fire 7 for reading textbooks.

does the kindle fire still have the read aloud function on kindle?

The questions I have are how much storage does the OS itself take up, and also does it allow you to install apps to external storage? Seeing as they only come with 16-32GB of storage those are pretty important factors to consider.

After installing the initial software update that the device needed out-of-the-box, I only had somewhere between 10 and 11 GB left (closer to 10GB I think) of available space on the 16GB model. Then I immediately put a 32GB MicroSD card and my storage problems were solved lol

​@Keither754 I also put a 32gb card but all I could use it for were photos, wh I rarely take. I only use screenshots for a craft/needlework project instruction. Everything was set up to allow anything that could be on SD, move to SD, but nothing else worked. I don't store anything but I can download a book or film from my local library. Hope this helps.

Are they apps that work straight out of the box with paying anything upfront or whatever or not you can delete it, and won't break the device? Does Amazon have any other options available as well tablets are they plan a Amazon Chrombook device in the future??

Chromebooks? No. Amazon and Google are always fighting, which is why Google apps don’t work on Fire Tablets. Security: Not good. I certainly wouldn’t do anything important using public wifi. Support: I have not used Amazon support a couple of times. Once it was great, the other not so much. But everything on the Fire Tablet is saved to the Amazon Cloud,so if the tablet dies you still have your data. As far as repairs, the Fire 7 can be bought on sale for $39 or less. You just buy a new one. If it breaks under warranty Amazon is good about replacing it. Casting: it casts to my Fire TV sticks and my Roku devices. Not sure about anything else. Productivity work: I would not use the Fire Tablet 7 for any productivity work by choice. I have hooked it up to a blue tooth keyboard and cast the screen to a TV. I tried several apps that are MS word file compatible, and it all worked. In an emergency, if my IPad died, I could use my Fire Tablet. But only in an emergency. It is slow. Very slow. And a bit of a kludge. Having said that, MS Office 365 and OneDrive both work on all Fire Tablets. To sum things up, the Fire Tablet is mostly a media consumption device that CAN be used as a productivity tool if circumstances dictate it. But if I did for some reason need to use a Fire Tablet for serious work, I would fork out a few extra bucks for the Fire Tablet 8. Or 10. They are both far better suited for most tasks. Especially after adding the Google Store to them.

here's something interesting if your daughter puts her name on the Kindle and later on you decide you want to use it you'd better be prepared to give up her email and personal information. this is what I just learned from a call I had with their service department

Can you get more battery life per recharge, or battery time by turning down the brightness? And would this work? (And what's the minimum brightness you would still need?) Curious also if there's any other tweaks like this that might get you more battery time before a recharge. Thanks.

Low brightness looks fine in a dim room. The best thing you can do is turn on airplane mode.

Awful, can't upload photo from fire 7 tabet to Facebook. I took a picture with my Fire 7 tablet and then tried to upload it to facebook, it will not do it. I go to facebook on my fire 7 tablet. I click to post a photo. Two options open, camera or brows. I choose brows. My pictures open I hold down on picture I want to upload. Picture turns blue with a check mark over it. And that is it, no other options to upload image. I clicked on the upper right menu and it only gives two options 1-Sort by 2-Select all And that is it, no other options. Frustrating that it can't do a simple thing like post a photo from fire 7 tablet to facebook.

It can run old 2D games fine if that's what you are into. Sideload a Genesis emulator it runs fine.

I have a 3rd gen but I've had port problems for about a year. Tried every "fix" on YT but none worked. This week couldn't get it to charge by any means, and the old cables are getting harder to find locally, so I'm looking to replace. I need the lightest tablet bc my ipads are now too heavy to hold (bad hands). Otherwise I like the fire 7. I've used it every day for some years (don't expect newer models to do that!). The thing I like best about my kindle is that it updates auto, you never have to waste time checking it. Or waiting on it. Also, I don't want to play w dozens of changes like my phones. It should be a useful device, not something that takes all your time. It should just do what it's supposed to do, and it does. Only thing I dont like is it takes a long time to charge but so do my ipads. I'm spoiled by my android phone wh charges super fast. I just wish I could have data on it so i could get rid of my phone to make calls.😁

You can actually get them on sale pretty often for around $45 instead. ($15 off!)

The 8 inch does not have a better processor. Benchmarks show the new 7 inch tablet beats the 8inch.

True. There is a new 8 coming out soon. But the screen resolution and size of the 7 can still be a bit of an issue. I like my 7, because it is far lighter and more portable. And costs less to replace if it gets stolen or broken. But watching movies on the 8 is better. As is reading or browsing if you are over 60, like me. They are both dirt cheap when on sale. Just get both!

They are so cheap yet work like other iPads but mine got so laggy I had to buy a new one lol😂

It’s not horrible but it has a little bit more improvement even for a low cost tablet first I don’t mind the fact that they need to update that android OS a little bit. I don’t expect them to put a lot of work into it but come on the home screen it’s a bit of an update to and third they need to thin out the bezels a lil bit

They're okay but don't last that long before problems star-I've had three over the last seven years, it's cheaper to just buy another one than to get it fixed.

You can’t download “any” apps you want, since the selection is somewhat limited. But there are quite a few apps available on the Amazon App Store that have nothing to do with Amazon, such as games like Roblox or streaming apps like Paramount+, Disney+, and Netflix to name a few

Correct. The tablet does NOT come with Google Play. Instead, you get the Amazon AppStore

Had a friend play Roblox and Minecraft on his fire 7 a few years back, it was decent but still stuttered a bit. If they haven’t changed the processed over the years, you’ll probably be out of luck with how many updates the two games have gotten, it won’t have enough juice to give a good experience

I’d probably recommend the Fire 8 PLUS model for gaming if you can squeeze it into your budget, since it has more RAM and will definitely have better performance. However, Minecraft and other games like that will work just fine on the 2022 Fire 7 if you need to (definitely not so great on older versions of the Fire 7 so be careful 😅)

my daughter put her name on a tablet and I can't get access without giving her email account. The accounts in my name but she put in her name when assigning the tablet. it seems innocent enough doesn't it but just another way for them to collect information on your family. This is sick!!!!!! F Amazon!!!!

I won’t lie it sounds a bit odd, but I think they should raise the price to 300 no more than that. It can be a little bit lower for the other ones and make a model where it’s a little bit more now and tweaked out.

I can't get Amazon Music on my Amazon Fire Tablet !!! Why have they done this. I had all my Music on Amazon !!!! I pay for Amazon Prime. I can get KZread. The Amazon Shopping App doesn't work anymore. I have Amazon Kindle and Amazon Video !!!! I have the large tablet, about 10 inch so it'great for Films. But with no Music it's a load of Sh*t !!!! It says the Amazon Music App is installed but it doesn't Work anymore !!!! I have to use my Phone for Amazon Music !!!!
