I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!

Its a great tablet I've had no problems it does what I need just fine and as an oldschool gamer emulation device its actually pretty freaking good. I think his video is also odd cause a PC guy should have shared that you can use Google apps ya only need to set the device to accept 3rd party apps. The original fire wasn't HD and didn't have this option so why is he sharing the older Fire tablet complaints which are no longer a problem? Its like he looked up old complaints or is using conversations from fellow PC snobs that don't know things are better with this new 7hd fire tab. I always get the impression that this guy is talking down to people, like we're all peasants. He gives just enough info to say the device works but he wouldn't wipe his butt with it. Maybe he should get a shot gun and a box of news ones and use them for target practice just to really rub poor folks nose in his crap. For families with 5 kids can't afford $200 tablets for each kid, IMHO Amazon made it possible for even low income kids to have internet devices that's pretty dang cool.

I got the 🔥 8 2019 version as a freebie. Was so impressed of just being s quad core 2.0 I decided to buy the latest model of the 🔥 HD 10.1 with the OCTA Core 2.0ghz . Used to be very skeptical with Amazon tech devices but since coming across a freebie I've now buy not just 1 but a few more. It is extremely a useable everyday device. Real 1080p with 2 million pixels which usually only big TVs offer that resolution, so having a small screen of only 10 inches and lower is a value buy.

This tablet is great for the kids or any situation where damage may occur. You can get them even cheaper then $40 on Black Friday and Prime day. The kid case for them is almost the same price as the device which is kind of crazy.

I got one a few months ago to use as a home assistant wall dashboard. Its pretty neat, the screen turns on as you walk up to it and since I have my cameras connected to home assistant its like a mini camera monitor.

I got my mom a USED 2014 fire tablet 6 inch, the very first with Alexa(hold button down) She reads, Facebook and Tubi. Runs like a champ and even still gets updates. This was so antique it did not have sd card slot option, so stuck with 6 gig out of 8 space. This thing was thicker too, and more solidly built than a 7. It also had a special product identifying app called Firefly, which was on the phones but not sure it went anywhere else. Got that for 35.00. Awesome. We are a fire family. First started with the 3g black and white kindle keyboard, which I prefer to those much more expensive paper whites. Have had 7, 8, and 10 fire sticks and TV's and an second gen echo that still works fine. Just ordered a limited deal 24.99 refurbished fire 7. Cheapest thing I ever seen. Simple, functional, portable. I am no technophile and specs go over my head. Still, Amazon caters to those too with the 3 gig ram gaming suitable kindle fires. What a time to be alive. I have become quite keen on these portable systems. I have even made the qlink electronic benefit scepter 8 tablet hum by disabling almost all google stuff. Anyway simplicity is popular. And with virtually a garage sale price point, even malfunctions or failures are easily refunded and replaced. Things keep getting better too- magnetic charging, remote appliance control...it also, as an avid reader, did not stop printed books. There is audio, digital, more ways to enjoy content than ever before. And for the inclined, their are rooting methods, fire toolbox, putting on the play store. Option on top of a sea of options. Just many of the sea of reasons it sells so well. Could not be happier. Well done Amazon.

One fun thing to note about the Fire 7 is the difference between the regular and kid versions is literally just the foam case that surrounds the one. The Fire 7 has built in software to make it "kid friendly" and it can be disabled. I got two of these from work when the Amazon vendor came in to swap out the display models for a static picture version. He said to just throw them away because Amazon doesn't want them back, so he gave them to me because I didn't want to just toss them. After a bit a research, I learned how to reset it to get it off of the store demo display mode then I ran Fire Toolbox to de-bloat ads and useless apps on one and side-loaded a few apps to it. I'm currently using one of them as a cheap OBD II car scanner because it's just a tad easier to see the app on the larger screen and I don't need a high-spec system to run it. This way I don't risk dropping my phone if I'm working on a car. The only downside is I can only use one scanner that doesn't have bidirectional support, so I can't diagnose certain things on more modern cars. Maybe one day they'll update the app.

i went fire hd 10 (the newest 10.1) for my shed screen, i have been building a workshop in my shed/garage (the building is 80 years old, compared to a modern garage it is a large garden shed, the floor is dirt). it works great for that, it is like a little 10 inch widescreen tv for me, and i can use it for other things. although i really would like to have the play store, please. then i might be able to view my security cameras on it.

I found a good use for the Fire 7. With the kickstand cover you can loop it over your treadmill and watch youtube videos while you run. This will work as long as you can connect to your wifi. I used a portable speaker to hook up for sound.

I'm a tech nerd, love comparing specs down to the nitty gritty and doing everything possible to get another 5 FPS or shave a couple milliseconds off a monitor's response time but even I can appreciate these things for what they are. Sub $40 for a legitimately usable tablet, capable of streaming content, shopping online and answering email is a handy gadget to have around for a lot of people. At this price, you don't have to worry about kids cracking screens or leaving them in the car to cook. You can have them stashed at a second home or take them camping... The price itself is the biggest feature because it allows you to 'connect' at times you wouldn't with a more expensive device. Well done Amazon.

It's an awesome little tablet, obviously wouldn't be your main gaming mobile device or for everyday use, but I use it to read ebooks, and it's great! The battery is pretty good considering it's price.

For those looking into one, I’d HIGHLY recommend upgrading to an HD8. I purchased an HD8 a few years ago and the extra screen size, higher resolution, and greater storage is worth the extra money.

I bought the fire 8 on sale for $60. I bought it for work and for what I needed it for, the fire 7 is equally capable of performing the same task. For my job, I have to network a remote interface (tablet) to a main system and control through an app. I do very little on the fire. 4 work related app's which are never used together, spotify premium account (on this device primairly for work), and a few movies downloaded through Prime for a cross country plane trip a couple times a month. I did need to download the apk files to get google installed on the device, which was so simple to do. The fire is a ton more robust than pads and other tabs on the market. Ether that or the fact that it is so cheap that it is not nearly as painful when you drop it, ether way mine has been knocked around so much that I am in disbelief that it still works (zero screen cracks or chips also). As for the advertising being the reason for the cheap price. On my fire 8, the only advertisement that I ever get is the one on the unlock page. You are not required to be proactive with the ad to make it go away, you simply "X" off the ad which then takes you to ad free usage of the device. It is an almost non-existing irritation. I have an IPad (which I hate) that I do all of my personal tabing on but I would never use it in my job for fear of breakage or theft. This cheap little tab has been a goto lifesaver on many of jobs that I have performed and I hope that it outlasts my need for it. If it dies tomorrow, I wouldn't have a second thought or hesitate on buying a replacement. If I have 1 complaint it is with the networking options. I does not show you the IP address of connected modems. I have to use my phone to find the address and then input into my tab app. Not an issue for a majority of users of this tab but for me, it is information that I need to have every time I connect to a new network.

Parents are going to be all over this.

Linus, you may want to review these tablets again, specially the 8" and 10"" tablet latest generations. They are very good consuming media devices, and if you happen to have an Amazon Prime account, the tablets really shine: Prime video, reading and attached perks to the Prime accounts make these tables extremely appealing to consumers. I own quite a few of these, and I expect nothing but good entertainment from them. I don't even dare to download third party software, such as Google or Microsoft docs. I know these tablets are for entertainment only, and that's where they really shine.

I agree, my daughter owns one and she is perfectly fine no lags or anything I even gave them my own good review. However, some people think these tablets are garbage or just a waste of your money but, it was for a good price a good deal and I am amazed and shocked on how well a really cheap tablet acts! My daughter just stays up in her room all day playing on it, watching Netflix or youtube, even gaming!

My use of it... Installed Google framework.. Installed Google Play.. downloaded my Google Play playlist songs to device via wifi .. use Fire 7 as Bluetooth device for my car stereo and can take calls on my phone without music stopping. Passengers can pass the tablet around to control music instead of aux cords or my phone. My phone is a hotspot so it connects to Google server at least once every 30 days automatically and I can stream music into it (and download) while my phone is in the car. 20 minute setup for seamless experience

I ordered one of these a few years back when my phone broke and I wanted something to use on the go. It was so much better than I expected for the price, I could take it on long journeys to listen to music and watch movies and also browse social media really easily.

I got one, and with a little bit of hard work, I got full google services, swapped out the lock screen for a different one without ads, changed the launcher, and much more.

You just sold me for buying two of these for my dad's conference room at his office. With covid these are really useful bc arbitrations are being done over microsoft teams, my dad and the client both need to be in the call which creates a problem in terms of social distancing. These are going to be perfect for bridging that gap and allowing his clients to participate from the conference room. The alternative he wanted was a wall mounted all in one lol. I thought he should go with a dell optiplex connected to a wall mounted monitor and webcam if anything but this is even cheaper for getting a simple conference call done. edit: Obv im getting the new ones with 2 MP not 300 kilopixels hahaha

my aunt's fire tablet (1st gen) still works, her primary use for is videos, facebook, online shopping, puzzle games, reading. EVERYTHING you do waiting at the Doctor's office, the airport, a flight and especially during a power outage (netflix downloads). So yes, totally worth the $

Found this as I've just got my daughter a fire 8 plus. Stripped out the Amazon stuff and got a stock launcher and the play store. Feels like the old nexus 8

You can call Amazon customer service to remove the ads, you can also root Google play to use on device.

I still have my Nexus 7 2012 running Slim Kat which means im still getting reasonable performance and 5 day standby time almost 10 years on 👌

I have the google play store on my fire tablet and it wasnt hard to get. I also got rid of the adverts on the lock screen for free by contacting an amazon employee. Most of the things you said are fixable and some of them are free

The HD 10 is also pretty good. I had the 2015 model, and it had some issues, but the 2017 model fixed all of them. It has a great screen, great processor, and it is extremely durable. I actually recommend it!

How’s the lag on yours? The fire 7 lag is a little too much for me. Wanted to get the 10 looking at its specs, it seems more powerful but I wasn’t sure if it was good enough.

Recently got the hd10 2017 and after a factory reset to fix a playback issue, everything else seems great @zach, I rarely run into lag (and i'm sure the only reason why is cause my internet is just crappy)

It's full of Amazon Apps and more are added every year. Over half of my 8gb kindle was taken up by their apps. Eventually, the new apps and frequent updates used up all the available space. I only had enough space for one app and had to disable updates on it.

I have this tablet actually 2 of them you get what you paid for had them for a year or so i have no complaints they work perfect

I have a couple of low-end 7" tablets (Galaxy 3 7" & an Acer something-or-other) that I use to run the app that controls my digital audio mixer (XR18). They also both work well as GPS units. For these purposes (and not much else) they are a great value. I'd imagine the Fire 7 would be as capable.

I got one in my favorite color (sage green) added Google remove offers removed thev transition effects runs fast great value

@Meagon Gabrielle it's good if you plan to read indoors and there's a way to add PDF books too through usb. You can also listen to certain books on audio as well. Comes with Alexa too and If you want extra functions add Google play . For a better speaker/longer battery get the fire tablet 8. But if you're just looking for reading only the Kindle paper is optimized just for that. You can usually catch both on sale too that's the first thing that goes on sale on Amazon

My other half nan had a pile of amazon tablets! 😂😂 when her last one stopped charging I managed to convince her to get a proper tablet, she actually argued with me because “what’s the point on paying so much for something that doesn’t do anything as well as my computer”. After she got it, I spent a good couple of weeks teaching her how to use it, she now can’t believe what it can do! It’s not only faster than her computer (which itself is really old, huge machine) but can’t do some of the things she can now do on her tablet, the look on her face when I set up a video call to her daughter for the first time was priceless!

Buy the tablet then install the play store on it. I got one for reading and internet browsing. Not wow at all, but functional for price.

I got the fire hd 8 for reading and simple tasks and I love it. ALSO. Putting the Google play store on these is pretty simple.

I actually have one of these. I was able to debloat mine and it works amazingly well.

He actually fell into a Canadian stereotype at 6:54 when he said the first Fire 7 he bought was missing the "eh?" Assistant. Oops-sorry. He was actually saying "A" instead of Alexa to keep from setting viewers' devices off.

a ton of these would have been bought by parents for kids who couldnt care less about the spec, they just wanted a tablet...so a very cheap present that does the job for them..

Kids don't need (and should not have) more than this anyway. I am definitely going to buy a 40€ tablet for my son. Even the fact that it's locked down to amazon products is a feature, since it cuts down on things he shouldn't access.

@Asteria Just buy more expensive tech and hand it down to your son when you want to upgrade. Sounds easier and better. You can start with the cheap tablet. That's how I would do it
