Amazing WHALE SHARK swim with Sailing Zatara - Ep 112
Amazing whale shark swim with Sailing Zatara
After Finn’s surprise return to the boat, we have 10 days to show him what he is missing. Luckily, we have Keith and Renee from Sailing Zatara to thank once more. They have invited us and many many others out on their boat for a day of swimming with whale sharks, the world’s biggest fish, along the Ningaloo reef line.
Ningaloo is one of a handful of places where whale sharks appear annually and today, we really lucked out. The ocean is teeming with krill which has encouraged the whale sharks to the surface where they are happy feasting, without a care in the world and seem oblivious to us who are happily swimming alongside them. It’s a win win situation.

BACK STORY
In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob decided to row a tiny seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. His first taste of a blue water ocean crossing.
Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and Rachel purchased Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 18, Declan 16 and Ivan 13, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of.
Our plan? To sail around the world.
Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz

thank you for bringing the ocean living organisms from smallest - planktons, krill to largest whale - all in one moment in time...i feel like i am swimming alongside all of you but for someone who cant overcome the fear of drowning - from the bottom of my heart - truly appreciate the swim along. It maybe a video on your part but its a treasure on mine...the ocean life forms are precious just like their land animals...hopefully from all your vlog, many will be educated to be better guardians of the air, land and ocean... we all need to do a better job and it starts by the simple step of educating how to preserve the natural habitat. Tell Declan that his hang time will be 9 seconds or better...just let the winds guide to soar and hang !!!

And the funny reaction to Declan's kite surfing improvement (not much... not likinh being passed by his younger brother haha). Also very funny the ending, (even though poor Declan was feeling bad), celebrating the 10k subs. 🎉🎉 Great failure, haha plus Ivan's backflip. Safe journeys, good winds (if you're sailing again). Thanks Daniel. Those spots and Ridges and everything about the shark raise questions. Beautiful. Yes Ivan has sprouted in one week. He may regress when we to catch up again.
Great Zitara, Sailing Kiwi's collaboration. The footage this week is epic, like Jacques Cousteau epic. It should be noted that the tunes on your videos are also always very cool and that really adds to the feel of your posts. NB. It should also be noted that, your young dancing boy has turned into a fully fledged teen almost overnight. Ye I know they'll always be your "children". Edit = O'h ye 10 thousand woo hoo

Thank you Sheree. Nice to reach a milestone. Someone suggested we will be at 50k in no time. It took three years to get here so, based on that, only 15 years to go. 😄
Congratulations on 10K 🥳 what an awesome journey it's been - and here's to even more epic videos in the future!

Thank you very much for your generous comparison. We don't watch TV so difficult for us to assess the legitimacy of your opinion, much as we would love to think you're correct. 😃
Congrats on 10k, you deserve 10x that.

Grats on 10k!! You deserve every one and many more! What an awesome experience, getting to just see these amazing creatures in the wild seems like a #lifegoals kind of thing, but getting to be up close in the water with them... Just... wow.

Yeah they're great company. They were around the corner in Exmouth working on their boat. They kicked themselves for missing out.
What a fascinating and unique experience swimming with these legends. Congratulations on 10k. Your production and editing are so good you'll be at 100k quickly.
