SAILING into a STORM - 1100 mile sail Maldives to Seychelles

SAILING into a STORM - 1100 mile sail Maldives to Seychelles
Addu Atoll has been our home for the past week as we wait, on anchor, for a weather window to head offshore (in our live aboard catamaran) for Seychelles. Compared to our last bluewater sail from Thailand to the Maldives, this journey looks far more challenging. A cyclone is brewing over the top of Madagascar. Our route to the Seychelles islands takes us and our floating home straight towards this stormy weather. Are we crazy to leave?
Here's the link for your opportunity to join us for a week of sailing.

BACK STORY
In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob rowed a tiny 7m (22 foot) plywood boat 2,500 miles from Tenerife (Canary Islands) to Barbados (Caribbean). It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race.
Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of.
The plan? To sail around the world.
Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz

We may not always agree with the polotics of a place, but we play by their rules while we are visitors in their space. Rachel was mindful to always have her shoulders and knees covered while in town. Not necessary if your staying in a fancy resort but essential if visiting the inhabited islands.

Congrats on the raising funds! Hope you reach the goal on time, its sooo close!! Congrats also for the vlog, well explained the dsngers you are facing... Hope everything is OK👌🙏🙏 Well edited. I do remember the first time the Jevelot went off control... wow, that was a huge effort swiming all the way to get it. Poor Mocha, probably the scariest time for her, seeing the Javelot going adrift without any of you... Lesson learned, Captain!! Like always in life, you never stop learning. (Its great how you take these incidents with humor after, haha... Couldn't help laughing at the image on Mocha behind the wheel saying goodby haha). Thanks God you went back on time!! Also, greqt job Rob, for bringing back the kayak!! You have to do something, for it has a tendency to go away to often!! 😂 About the people, nice to see how they treat you, helping and giving you food for the journey (that's because the KBoys truly make good friends where ever they go, seeing how they are). Wow what a fantastic vblog The quality and story telling of past and future passages across the seas was hilarious 😅. The flashbacks in time during your vblogs is so enjoyable to watch. It's time we got you some serious airtime on our national TV here in New Zealand. Your traveling adventures are incredible and educational with a stack of great humourous occasions and a few sad tales along the way. Thank you for making my year entertaining and enjoyable following your journey Safe sailing Cheers from the Tron team 😊😊😊😊

Well, here it is Thursday afternoon and the third time I have watched this video. Rachel, I noticed the same thing, super friendly people but it is a male dominated society. Women are almost like second class people, and I know that I am not saying it quite right.

The thing we observed in this role men and women have is they all seem happy and comfortable in their situation.
